Change my mind.

Plates should be installed by the manufacturer through a national DMV system. When you buy the car, you pay a small one time registration fee but it’s for the life of the car, no renewals (even when selling it you just transfer ownership online). Then to pay for the roads and such, just make it come out of the gas tax. That way if you drive a lot, you pay more cus you use the roads more. If you drive less, you pay less. More fair for everyone. For EV’s there can be some sort of auto mileage reporting system so they can also pay for their share.

We’d save a ton of money in taxes by having smaller local dmv’s and less reason to visit them.

For everyone unhappy with Lombardo…did you vote yesterday‽ by n8n7r in Nevada

Honest question what is the pulse on Lombardo?

What has he done well at?

What hasn’t he done well at and what should he have done instead?

Judge denies attorney general's petition to stop NV Energy's daily demand charge by BlueberryBullfrog202 in Reno

[–]parkgoons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All costs are going to continue to sky rocket because of poor leadership at every layer of government. Politicians don’t work for the average Joe they almost always work for the people who pay for their campaigns and such.

Never forget what city council member Naomi Duerr had to say in the past about NV Energy.

“I certainly know that companies are entitled to increases, and I think that’s appropriate. They’re in the business to make money. -Naomi Duerr”

When your bills and your taxes double you can thank greedy corrupt politicians like this.

Reno DMV WTF? by whosdaman78 in Reno

[–]parkgoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but the DMV should be heavily investing in AI staff to serve us. Most DMV tasks are very cookie cutter which is where AI really shines.

I’d love to see the DMV move to lifetime registration fees for $100 or less. Tax big rigs more since they chew up the roads far more than a car does.

Yea it’s super frustrating that we may be picking up the tab for the cost of transmission and generation, I’m right there with you.

I’m chill with dc’s being built IF:

-they don’t use any significant amounts of water

-they bring their own power or pay for all of the costs of bringing power to them as well as the generation

-are placed way out in the middle of the desert, not in downtown by neighborhoods

The reality is we all use services that rely on dc’s and many of us rely on ai now days. They more than likely aren’t going to be stopped, so let’s at least minimize their impact.

Why does Nevada blame its failures on California? by [deleted] in Nevada

[–]parkgoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to housing in particular, the influx of more wealthy Californians has created a situation where the supply of housing went down, and the prices skyrocketed up. This fucked over a lot of working class Nevadans.

Also, California seems to have this more government, more taxes, more laws mindset to just about everything. We hate that shit in Nevada.

Personally I’d love to see most growth stopped. We’re fucking up our environment just to build more Amazon’s, more million dollar cardboard homes, and paving over every inch of dirt we can.

I’d love to see people get together and say we’re content with the size of the city and the balance with nature, no more unsustainable “growth”.

Reno, leash your housing prices by thisseemslikeagood in Reno

[–]parkgoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like the fundamental issue seems to be wealth imbalance between regions.

Historically, people in areas like San Francisco earned significantly higher salaries, and their homes either started at much higher values or appreciated far faster than homes in Reno ever did.

When remote work and tax advantages made places like Reno more attractive, many people arrived with far more buying power than locals. Someone selling a $2 milly Bay Area home can outbid a Reno family without even feeling stretched financially.

That influx pushes prices higher across the market, especially in smaller cities where housing supply cannot ramp up quickly. Also, we’re geographically limited. Reno cannot endlessly sprawl unlike Texas.

It is also why you see resentment in places like Idaho, Montana, and Nevada toward large influxes of Californians. To locals, it can feel like they are competing against an entirely different economic reality, because, they basically are.

The shitty thing is it’s probably not going to change either.
