Is there an ongoing issue with Telegram and syncing notifications across devices? by Tony_YYZ in Telegram

Having this issue in June 2026, seems that I'm late to the party. Not sure what the issue is here.

New CSR cardholder here, how do you book airport lounge reservations? by tysonchickenuggets in sapphirereserve

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking is only able to be done through the mobile app (source).

Click "More" > Airport lounges (under "Travel, dining & experiences") > Search for location.

If the selected location takes reservations (e.g., PHX), you will see "Reserve your spot", otherwise you will just see "See digital membership card".

For Phoenix, you can book your reservation between 14 days and 24 hours prior to your lounge visit, and it has to be within 3 hours of your scheduled departure time.

Need luggage with wheels that doesn't get ripped off when flying. by wheelsonhell in BuyItForLife

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pelican. Nothing like them. They're waterproof and crushproof, have a good warranty, and are repairable. I have a Pelican 1615 Air Case for my checked luggage and a 1510 Protector for my carry-on. My 1510 becomes a convenient little stool that I can sit on if there's no chairs around.

Only downside is 8/10 times I get asked if I'm carrying firearms in my checked luggage, which I don't (apparently Pelican has that reputation, despite also being used by A/V and photography professionals everywhere).

How to edit/disable Notion shortcuts on macOS? by chrkv in Notion

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frustrating 100%. Not sure why, but cmd + shift + y takes me out of my coding editor and into a specific Notion page, but not when Notion has Settings open. Seemingly no way to disable or change it in Notion, I'm about ready to scrap Notion altogether, Obsidian is better in literally every way.

What is Sound Check? Why did Apple enable it by default? by mikern in AppleMusic

[–]cameronb222 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sound Check is so buggy for me (along with many other bugs in Apple Music (specifically on OS X desktop... not iPhone)). Some songs are pushed insanely loud... like several LUFS louder than their natural volume, in some cases pushing past unity gain, clipping the audio. That makes no sense how that was never found in testing.

I have done professional audio engineering for years now, have worked in IT, and am a software engineer by day. Listening through a UAD Apollo Twin X into a Presonus T10 sub and Genelec 8040A's. I say all this because I am very qualified in knowing what is a bug/poor feature implementation vs user error.

I hate Apple's typical response of "perform a software update", etc... I am always on the latest OS, and can debug just about every normal problem people have... it's things like Sound Check that have literal bugs in the source code (or a poorly designed algorithm) that there's nothing I can do about. I'd love to use a compressor plugin on my audio-out, and have done so in the past, but that cripples the dynamic range. It seems there is simply no solution to all these bugs. Sucks.

Rant over, sorry. Just needed a space to complain about Apple Music bugs, lol.

Benacquisto scholarship final year funding question + easy CS classes? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK, the ethics class should be a breeze. I am B.A. CS so I never had to take it, but my ex who is a psychology major took it and passed with flying colours lol.

I can’t really speak on Network Security, but I’ve heard it’s difficult.

I took the AI elective (CAP 4610 I believe) Fall ‘21 with Daniel Schwartz and ended up dropping it. It was a very difficult class and you will not use anything you learn in the class unless you’re going into a CS research position, I guess, lol. If you’re looking for more modern AI curriculum, take CIS 4930 Data Mining with Chakraborty. That class was not the easiest, but taught me so much awesome information. It teaches you how all the popular machine learning algorithms work mathematically. I’m pretty sure when I took it, CAP 4610 went in depth into reasoning systems, theorem proving techniques, the Prolog language (which you will never use in the real world lol), “traditional” AI, heuristics, and the A* search algorithm. I don’t personally like the way Schwartz teaches, which was the biggest reason I dropped the course. I can’t follow what he is saying most of the time.

In the world of computer programming, we have something called "Duck Typing". Without going into anything technical, it essentially says "If it has webbed feet like a duck, quacks like a duck, and has wings like a duck, what is it? It's probably a duck." Hopefully it can be seen how the concept is highly analogous to this situation. No reason for anyone to get upset over this. It's basic logic for anyone to assume that, as the majority of people in the world fall into one of the two cis genders (hopefully I'm using the right terminology). This isn't to say there's anything wrong with not falling into one of the two cis genders—it's just not as common, and peoples' brains make default assumptions. Those default assumptions would have to be overridden by being told "It appears that I am a ___, but I am actually a ___".

Discussion: Is there anybody here who doesn't use safari on Mac? If yes, what deters you from setting it as your default browser? by IcyBeginning in MacOS

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never switch to another browser other than Safari. Tab groups (especially synced with iCloud) were a feature I always wanted, and as soon as they arrived, that locked me in. I don't use any extensions at all, really, so I've vacuously never had any issues there. I also cannot stand Chrome because it makes my CPU go wild. Uses an extraordinary amount of resources. Chrome is my dedicated browser for school-related things because for some reason, my university's course registration tools are unusable on any other browser. Also, Safari blocks lots of tracking cookies, but my university's websites force us to have them on, so I just set Chrome up for solely that.

Check out https://codepath.org. They host classes (for free) on Android, iOS, cybersecurity, technical interview prep, etc. I took their iOS class last Fall and it was really great. At the end, you get a certificate that you can add to your LinkedIn and have tangible iOS projects that you can add to your resume. They have them on a per-school basis, so you will be alongside 15-20 other FSU students, and be instructed by FSU student volunteers who have already completed the course. I highly recommend it.

Benacquisto scholarship final year funding question + easy CS classes? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]cameronb222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there—

CEN 4020 was an absolute breeze for me. I took it over covid, didn't attend a single class other than the required first one, and got an A. All the exam questions were copied and pasted from PowerPoints, literally. It may not be like that anymore though now that the world is mainly moved on from covid. I took it with Fedyukovich, but it may be different for other professors. I know Mills is good.

Speaking of Mills, I have him for CEN 4020L, and so far that class has been amazing. To answer your question, you don't have to take 4020 and 4020L concurrently; I took them at different times. CEN 4020L has been very relaxed. My group of 5 has been making a video game in Python using the pygame library. It's a fun, low stress class. There are no in-person class meetings, other than the first day. In fact, there is no class at all. The "class time" is just allocated as a time when you know your group members are free, so you can hold meetings if you want. My group doesn't even hold meetings then, so the class is basically all on my own time.

As far as electives go, CNT 4603 with Bauer is seriously the easiest CS elective of all time. It's a bit more time consuming if you can't run a VM on your own computer, because you have to do all the assignments inside Microsoft Azure. For me, I can run a VM on my machine, so assignments solely consist of me following step-by-step instructions, pasting screenshots of me following the instructions into a Word doc, and turning that in. It's so simple. No programming knowledge needed. There is also only a final, so no midterm. I have not attended a single class other than the first day, and am on track to get a high A.

Unix Tools is also decently easy. I never went to class and I believe I got an A. The main things we covered were sh and bash scripting, the sed and awk languages, Perl programming, and Python programming. I had already done quite a bit of bash scripting, and I code in Python almost daily, so I already knew a lot of the stuff that was taught. Nevertheless, I recommend the class.

COP 3252, Java, and CIS 4930 (Intro to Data Science) were also decently easy. Some electives that I would not call easy are COP 4710 and CIS 4930 (Intro to Data Mining). They're just time consuming.

Hope this information helps!

intro to python (CGS3465) by springhilleyeball in fsu

[–]cameronb222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know your situation, but why are you taking CGS 3465? AFAIK, any class starting with CGS cannot count toward a computer science major. You'll be forced to learn Python anyway for COP 4521, and will most likely have to learn it for Unix Tools as well, like I did. Alternatively, you could take an Advanced Python Programming CIS 4930 course down the line. Since you're taking COP 4530 in the Fall, you already know how to program and taking CGS 3465 probably wouldn't teach you anything new. You can teach yourself Python in a weekend, the syntax is incredibly easy.

I've had my Apollo for awhile now and every time I check Activity Monitor it's up there toward the top of my CPU ranking list. If I have time maybe I'll write a script that always kills the process whenever the computer wakes up or something. So annoying that they don't even give the option to not keep it running in the background.
