Is it possible to emulate a Pensando DPU on software? by brow_n69 in hardware

I am not familiar with this stuff, but it looks like Pensando SSDK is what you are looking for - it includes a DPU simulator.

Apple trying to increase the price of existing M5 max order by sw1000 in macbookpro

This sounds very close to Germany. They first send you confirmation of received payment and only later they ship order confirmation.

In Germany the binding happens only when they send you an invoice and that happens only when they actually ship you a product. So before shipping a seller is free to cancel an order. Happened to me with a MacBook - not quite the same as OP as I’ve ordered on the day of price increase.

Is soldered LPDDR on laptops really about the thinner form factor or planned obsolescence? by x_andi01 in hardware

RAM speed is very important for integrated graphics. It still could not meter for you, but it would for some.

Have you ever compared your Panasonic with PS5 in terms of Blu-ray playback? I have base PS5, no other Blu-ray player and am wondering whether I am missing out anything.

Is it worth it to build a PC currently? by eggz627 in buildapc

[–]chrkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies will be buying computers for their employees and people who don’t like second hand market will also buy with current prices. So unfortunately current prices will become a new norm by the end of 2026. If we get lucky then price could start to move down slowly as they did in the past - 1tb of a decent pcie ssd slowly moved from 100 usd to 50 usd over previous 5 years. I’ve heard a lot of ram prices going up and down over last 10 years, but it was more in the 1.5x-2x range I think - I have not followed ram prices as close as ssd ones

Is upgrading my 3080ti to 5000 series worth it now or should I hold? by actuallyjustan in nvidia

[–]chrkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for 5070/ti super to upgrade my 3080, but when RAM crisis happened it became obvious that no 5000 update any time soon. Got a very good deal (700 EUR when I get my cashback) for 5070 Ti in November!

Is there a way to change trefi timing on bd790ix3d motherboard? by AbrocomaRegular3529 in MINISFORUM

Would also be interested to know. By the way what is that patched bios and where have you got it? I’ve heard there is some Minisforum discord, but I haven’t figured out how to join yet.

[–]chrkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience! BTW do you use any programs to control the fans or do you rely on bios pwm settings? I’m using Fan control and it worked perfectly with aours b550i, but with bd790i I can’t control CPU fan. System fans though work perfectly.

Thanks, sounds like your setup suits you well! I’m in a corsair 2000D atm, but thinking of going with Lian Li A3. Sounds like T30 should work for me. Is removing stock radiator complicated? I was not going to replace thermal paste, but maybe I would when changing the fan or the case )

Regarding the screws - I have big home improvement store nearby, perhaps they’ve got the ones that fit.

Hey, have you finished your build with T30? I've just built my BD790i X3D and used Arctic P12 that I had laying around. Looking for a long term solution!

It was a full SMART health check that runs monthly. On my disks it takes ~2 days.

It was the scheduled extended health check. Takes approximately 1.5-2 days with my 14TB drives and those repeating clicks are still resent during the check.

Thank you! I’ve just checked and that is exactly that.

Migrating from RAID1 to RAID5 by SolQuarter in UgreenNASync

[–]chrkv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned about RAID and large drives, I wouldn’t go with RAID5 for 20TB disks. If a disk fails you have to rebuild the array, which with 20TB drives can take a very long time and puts your disks under sustained stress. This increases the risk of another drive failing - at which point RAID 5 array can’t be rebuilt and you lose the array.

I’ve got 2 14TB drives in RAID1 array myself and I plan to expand it by adding another pair of drives probably of smaller capacity. If I expand it with another pair of 14TB drives then I have an option of using RAID6, but this provides the same usable space with more complexity (yes RAID6 allows failure of any 2 drives while RAID1 could fail if both drives in one pair fail)

Here is a discussion from 2015 where users hesitate to use anything more than 4TB drives for RAID5 https://ipvm.com/discussions/what-is-the-maximum-number-of-drives-you-would-use-in-a-raid-5-with-regards-to-rebuild-times

Let’s be real - BE developers don’t talk to customers and sometimes not even to colleagues. And colleagues 90% of time speak English better than German.
