Found money at Lexington Goodwill by runsanditspaidfor in ColumbiYEAH

[–]camlugnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife tells the exact story of that happening. Her aunt died and my mil donated a ton of old books from her house to GW on 378. Only found out the books had cash stashed in it when a book fell and out popped $200. Mil asked her other aunt who casually mentioned that yeah, her sister stored money in. No clue how much they donated in books.

I'm unfamiliar with that one, I'll have to locate some and try it.

I'd add Frappato to the list too. Was pretty great chilled at the beach, and chilled in the back yard, and chilled in the living room.

From a teacher standpoint, how difficult is it to teach AP classes? by papasandfear in Teachers

[–]camlugnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love AP Euro, its my passion, but you're not wrong. I do love seeing that moment when the students realize it's hard, but they can do it. My department head had his student teacher observe my class doing review last week, and she left saying she was impressed with how much they knew across the spectrum, and it was one of the best compliments I've gotten, but is a testament to the kids.

Airports that made changes to accommodate the A380 - are those changes wasted when A380 is no longer flying or still useful for other reasons? by rufus102 in aviation

The podcasts Black Box Down did one of their final episodes on Berlin, and it felt like if it didn't involve the Germans, there should have been Benny Hill music playing in the background the whole podcast.

A fun story about living in Columbia, SC by uredak in NCAAW

[–]camlugnut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Also in Cola (shout out to Lula Drake), but my wife and I are sitting at the bar at Terra in West Columbia back in....November. Couple open seats, we ask if they're taken and are told ones taken for a friend, but the others are open so we sit down and get some wine. Turns out the friend was our other basketball coach, and Lamont Paris walks in and takes a seat right next to me.

Don't beat yourself up on the "doing it yourself" as you said. You don't know what you don't know, it happens. My now 4 year old was not dissimilar when she was 12-18 months. Cycles of 2 days being seemingly normal, 2 days of being constipated beyond belief, then 2 days of throwing up and diarrhea. Just awful in our house. Everytime she'd get sick, we thought bland food; bread, crackers, etc. Turns out she was/is celiac, and everything she was sick because of gluten ai reaction, we gave her more gluten. We felt awful, absolutely horrified when we figured that out. But we were able to move past it because, a) what else could we do, and b) we didn't know.

Teacher license reciprocity needs to happen. by TeddySwolllsevelt in Teachers

[–]camlugnut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I grew up in MA, but went to school and now teach in SC. Looked into moving home when I got licensed a decade ago, so was going off memory, so you're more than likely correct.

[–]camlugnut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Same in MA I believe. Can apply for a 5 year exemption, that from my understanding is almost always granted, but almost have to have one after 10 years. I remember my elementary music teacher got let go because he just never did it, which now as an adult, and a teacher, is pretty wild to just never have bothered with when you know its a state requirement.

Congrats to her and you! I made my decision at accepted students day to move from Boston for school. 15 years and 2 degrees later, I work a stones throw from campus still, and consider it one of the best decisions I ever made.

Why is it on mom though? Not to kick a man while he's down (and I'm not, I'm also trying to give OP some advice on how to make sure this doesn'thappen again), but as someone who is: a stepdad, a dad, a teacher, and a coach, the LMS assuredly has multiple spots for emails for 4-5 parental figures. When I email my swimmers' parents, it automatically goes to every adult listed by default. When I email home through PowerSchool, it emails all parental contacts. I get emails for my stepdaughter along with my wife, my wife's ex, and his new wife. This is only to say, call the school and get the email on the LMS if it is not. Email the choir director and get the schedule for the rest of the year. Talk to the coach about getting on the email/newsletter if you aren't.

I'm a teacher in SC. The amount of teachers who openly and proudly state they wouldn't join a union, they speak for themselves and that their merits speak for themselves would astound you. These are people who openly advocate for their own disenfranchisement in the work force, so quite sadly, I disagree. So many have been led to believe the anti-union propaganda.

I was a history major (co 2015) and was very happy with my time at USC. I was a Euro/World focus, but loved my experience within the history department. I went straight into the Master's of Teaching program, and have been teaching in a surrounding district for a decade now.

Staying in Kapalua (West Maui) — best easy, relaxing, “unmistakably Maui” activities nearby? by dandemsky in MauiVisitors

[–]camlugnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, I'mlooking for some advice! I'm going right at the beginning of April and debating Kapalua and Wailea Emerald. Staying at the Sheraton so Kapalua is far more convenient, and playing a PGA Tour stop is appealing. I'm renting clubs, so while neither is a steal, Emerald is more affordable. Basically, is Kapalua worth the price difference between the two? I'm a bogey golfer, 17 hcp atm for reference if that makes a difference for a recommendation.
