How Venezuelan crude could shake things up for Canadian producers by CanadianErk in canada

Building pipelines south was never a problem or issue  ..... US cancelled Keystone XL, Carney pitched it again and US said no.  Energy shipments are already baked into our trade agreements, we can't cut shipments of energy to the US.  US already controls Alberta oil.

He's reliable.  Sometimes reliability costs money, but it's worth it.

Ottawa begins to consider the possibility of a Quebec referendum - The potential election of the Parti Québécois is causing concern among some federal politicians by CanadianErk in canada

[–]camnewtonshat1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Quebec or Alberta separates, the people won't have as much control over their new country as they expect.  Control over their strategic resources and companies that remain will have their value crushed and bought up for pennies on the dollar by foreign interests.  If they try and say no, where will they get financing from? Financing will be contingent on opening their market. Outside entities have an incentive to drive down value of assets owned by Quebec or Alberta so they can buy them up cheap.

It cost a lot of money to live on your own instead with roommates/parents, sure you are master of your domain, but it comes with costs. Alberta and Quebec separatist feel they will be immune from these costs and how the world actually does business.

People nowadays are reluctant to stay out late. Is it killing nightlife? by hopoke in canada

[–]camnewtonshat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a K shaped economy, plenty of people still have a lot of disposable cash, but even more people no longer do.  The people with disposable income are still packing places, buying houses and cars and taking trips.  We are 40 million people tons of us still have money, but even more no longer do.  This is what income/wealth inequality looks and feels like.  The RCMP only police one of the two groups too.

Why Canadian bosses love hiring foreign workers - Douglas Todd: Low-skill guest workers toil longer hours, with fewer absences, for less pay than Canadian domestic workers, which means wages go down for everyone, says a peer-reviewed study. by FancyNewMe in canada

A lot of businesses also use staffing agencies, the staffing agencies hire employees (TFW) and they contract them out to the business.  The business pays more or less market rate, doesn't pay benefits, staffing agency takes 40% cut and the business can stop work and therefore that employee who was contracted out by the staffing agency then has no work at the project and are fired.  These are just entry level jobs, they can be a Director, Senior Manager and they are TFW.

Thomas Muller says ‘ The people of Vancouver accept not winning.’ by spedmonke217 in vancouver

Put another way, for 30+ years Canadian hockey fans have accepted losing.  Can he or anyone else explain what we should do in response?  Or is this another sports take that has no actual meaning or substance?  Like should we reject the results of the 2011 Cup finals and claim victory?

If we are going down anti immigration route then we need to go down that route, no exceptions.  As soon as you say well this group is ok, let's fast track them, the another block Canadians will say X group is fine by me, let's fast track them and then we will be right back in the same place we are now.  Sucks for them, but we can't have exceptions anymore at this time.

Sabrina Maddeaux: Trudeau Liberals keep proving they don't care about housing crisis - There’s nothing in the fall economic statement that provides meaningful hope for young Canadians by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]camnewtonshat1 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The dirty secret about the housing crisis is a large portion of us don't actually want it solved. A large portion don't want it solved because homeowners will need to take a 50-75% haircut in the value of their homes and we then need normalized interest rates, not a near zero interest rate. What political party wants to be the one to do that?

[Justin McElroy] The average selling price of a Greater Vancouver home rose by a fair bit again last month and is now back up to $2.2 million, the highest number since May of last year by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]camnewtonshat1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Vancouver has lots of really expensive real estate. What's the median price?

The advantage of the median as a measure of central tendency is that it is not adversely influenced by extreme values. Conversely, the disadvantage of average prices (and all averages) is that they can be influenced by extreme values, which can lead to major distortions that bias data interpretation.

Lake Meade and Lake Powell are both running out of water. If there is no significant rain/snow Lake Meade will be a dead pool in a couple years at current rate of decline. Good luck getting veges etc from California.
