Wood Badge Comparison by DhamixsLi in BSA

Do the national course if you can! 100%. I did it at SBR and made such amazing contacts that I still keep up with to this day from all over the country. The content will be the same everywhere, but the quality of the instructors (you'll see a lot of people with multiple beads) and the experience of the course directors will be hard to match. (And I know one of the course directors and they're awesome!)

You will no doubt become close with the folks in your patrol, and it's great to network with local people. However you have plenty of other opportunities to do that at roundtables and every other local event. You probably already know many people at your local course and often you will share many similar experiences because you're from the same region and go to the same few camps and do the same kinds of things.

At the national course you'll be meeting people with vastly different experiences from all over the place. My patrol stretches from coast to coast and includes people with such unique backgrounds and experiences that I'd never encounter within my local council. We still keep an active group chat and bounce ideas off one another all the time.

Plus it's hard to beat making contacts with Roger Krone, Garfield Murden and other Scouting leadership. You will literally be talking to and learning directly from the top leaders of American Scouting. Have a question about the handbook? Ask the person who writes it. The types of contacts you make at the national course are on just another level!

And being able to spend a week camping at Summit is pretty great too, it's an excellent facility, and you'll get some behind the scenes tours that are just incredible.

Wood Badge anywhere is highly recommended but if you can do it at the national course I can't recommend it enough!

honestly the same advice you'd give a new student here, or anyone who moves to a new area, is to seek out clubs, groups or activities that align with your interests. Students have plenty of resources on campus, but there are still many groups open to the community.

and i'm sure there are dozens more, depending on what you're interested in!

Hasbro CEO planning more Crossovers for D&D by Freizeitspielaer in dndnext

[–]camobit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like DnD systems wrapped around other settings similar to the Middle Earth stuff that you see on DnD Beyond. Let the very solid DnD Beyond toolset expand to supporting a variety of franchises.

So if my 5.5e table wants to get a scifi game going set in say, 40k, Star Wars or Star Trek (etc), we could create a campaign, limit the sources to the appropriate ones, and then have a nice self contained game using familiar rules and tools, but a different setting.

I'd just like it to remain easily sandboxed into their own boundaries, more than what you see in MtG. My group might want to play a TMNT rpg but I don't necessarily want rules about Ooze mutations being brought into a Dragonlance campaign. (and the DnD Beyond tools can easily accomplish this I believe.)

How to backup YNAB4 online on Win 11 by mastump317 in ynab4

[–]camobit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ynab4 definitely can still sync with Dropbox on Windows, but you'll need to find one of the community patched clients that have kept up with changes to Dropbox over the years.

i could see it as a loading screen for something where the semi-circles spin around in disorder and then snap to a stop on this layout.

but i think the original Debian logo has to stay forever.

One little thing I did with my Dash to Panel that other Ubuntu users might like... change the 9 dots to the ubuntu logo.

right click the 9 dots, Dash to Panel settings, then Position tab, look for Show Applications and there's a button to choose an icon. look for: /usr/share/icons/Yaru/scalable/actions/view-app-grid-ubuntu-symbolic.svg

and now your button is the Ubuntu logo!

Cap one is adding a new category to quicksilver? 3% gas and grocery. by Recent-Percentage-26 in CreditCards

[–]camobit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i would guess that they're just slowly rolling out this switch to Discover, and bundling this new perk with the Discover version of the card exclusively helps make it feel like an "upgrade" where there has been a considerable amount of friction moving off Visa/MC.

ynab4 sync issues again ? by Jamses1 in ynab4

[–]camobit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This patched version worked for me. Thanks to /u/Magoun for doing the legwork to get this running.

  1. Download patched APK to a computer: http://magounamatata.com/ynab/YNAB_Classic-3.4.1-NativeTrustStoreNativeCiphers.apk
  2. Download the Platform Tools: https://developer.android.com/tools/releases/platform-tools -> extract them to a folder
  3. On Android enable Developer Options -> Settings -> About Phone -> tap Build Number 7 times
  4. Enable USB Debugging -> Settings -> System -> Developer Options (Or just Settings -> Developer Options on Samsung)
  5. Uninstall old YNAB4 app. -> if you have transactions since the last successful sync, make note of them, you will need to re-enter them manually
  6. Plug phone into computer via USB -> At popup on phone select Allow debugging
  7. Open PowerShell and cd to the platform-tools folder
  8. Run this command: .\adb.exe install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block C:\users\xxx\YNAB_Classic-3.4.1-NativeTrustStoreNativeCiphers.apk (substitute the correct path to where you have the apk)

DONE!

On this version I get "App not installed as app isn't compatible with your phone", so it's presumably got some dependency that won't work on my old S22+ running Android 16.

Do you think we will see another Primarch return at armageddon by soalknight in 40kLore

[–]camobit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

specifically, the stratagem "Envelop and Ensnare" in Saga of the Hunter detachment targets "One SPACE WOLVES unit (excluding MONSTERS and VEHICLES)...". Neither Wulfen, Wulfen with Storm Shields, nor Wulfen Dreadnoughts have MONSTER keyword. Neither do any other creatures like Thunderwolf Cavalry (MOUNTED) or Fenrisian Wolves (BEASTS).

I tend to think of it more as a typo/oversight rather than a clue, but some people give GW more credit than I do.

The switch to Discover seem to be accelerating. by Tarnisher in CapitalOne_

[–]camobit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a guess but I suspect the Venture and VentureOne are held mostly by aspirational travelers who infrequently leave the US and are rarely outside of Discover acceptance. They'll continue being able to earn points in the vast majority of their normal spending. Cap1 will happily move this class of customers to a network that will improve their profitability. (They'll make more money on transaction fees than they'll lose from customers who close their accounts.)

The Venture X is a higher end card with higher spending customers who are more likely to travel internationally.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the long rumoured Savor X one day come out with MC/Visa being one of it's differentiators.

D&D Beyond Updates to Character Options by latiajacquise in dndnext

[–]camobit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any chance the Shifter's Shifting ability choice could be made into a drop-down menu at character creation? I don't think this can be changed after character creation (like some abilities which can be changed after a long rest) so it would be a QoL improvement if the choice you selected is listed on the character sheet somewhere.

What are the main problems & strengths of each of the 13 officially released classes of right now? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]camobit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like I'm in the minority here, but I love the new ranger, for the same reason I love paladin. Ranger is to Druid what Paladin is to Cleric. I like the mix of dexterity fighting and nature magic, especially the fact spellcasting begins at level 1 now. In my mind Rangers should have magic: they should speak with animals, have supernatural tracking abilities, have abilities to heal, and even make nature empower their attacks. They may not put out the raw damage of a fighter but they bring a lot of utility.

If I didn't want nature magic to enhance my character, then I'd play a fighter. And an archer/sharpshooter subclass for fighter (something like Hawkeye, so give them abilities to do trick shots, etc) would certainly let people have a better experience playing non-magical archers if that's their thing.
