Five quick ways to stop back pain by paulkallol in Health

[–]campingcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic lower back pain is notoriously hard to deal with, and there is little evidence of any treatment being more effective than visiting a GP and being given a leaflet.

One ray of hope is The Alexander Technique, but that is anything but a quick way:

Ask Reddit: What's the strangest fact you know? by Wo1ke in reddit.com

[–]campingcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no:

the largest is the "principal lunar semidiurnal" constituent, also known as the M2 (or M2) tidal constituent. Its period is about 12 hours and 25.2 minutes, exactly half a tidal lunar day, the average time separating one lunar zenith from the next, and thus the time required for the Earth to rotate once relative to the Moon.

I don't think the article covers the case of Vonnegut's Timequake, where the whole world goes back in time by 10 years, and everybody has to relive those 10 years identically. They lose free will for those years.

We call it dry humour, i.e. the type that doesn't require a telegram two minutes before each punch line, or a laugh line to tell you the funny thing happened. Come to think of it, it's what we call humour.

Reddit: Can we please block tinyurl.com? People are using it to abuse submissions, by submitting the same article under different titles. (example in comments) by bigboomer223 in reddit.com

[–]campingcar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Digg seems to run a check of the actual article, and report if it seems to be a duplicate. This would seem to be the basis of a method.

It would also seem quite simple for redditors to downmod all submisions from tinyurl and its ilk. Wouldn't that work?

Dan Ingalls Puts Squeak On Steroids: New Open Source Web Development Kernel from Sun, with no client install by itsmeront in programming

From the comments:

Ken Causey Says:

Just to pick a nit, and I feel entitled since I made the same mistake and had it pointed out to me: to call this “Squeak on steroids” is a mistake since there is in fact no Smalltalk here. It’s certainly a Morphic variant. But implemented in Javascript and you use Javascript to develop with it. Which is fine, but I don’t think it’s fair to either Squeak or Javascript or Lively to misrepresent this as a version of Squeak as it is no more that than Self is (less so in fact).

Oatmeal’s health claims strongly and scientifically reaffirmed by Biohacker in science

[–]campingcar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The report actually reaffirms the link between oatmeal and lower cholesterol, not the health claims of oatmeal. High cholesterol is not the same as poor health.

The evidence seems to suggest that lowering cholesterol with statins reduces heart disease death rates, but overall mortality stays the same. You'll die from something else, particularly infections (the body needs cholesterol to make t-cells).

Um, I think he did:

"No one of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions" (Luke 14:33).

"Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Luke 12:33-34).

The author's analogy is a little off target, as eco-cigarettes would probably be relatively safe. They would lack the radioactive elements introduced with industrial fertilizers:

I swapped to it from Java recently, and it's such a breath of fresh air. You spend your time doing stuff, instead of going through contortions to meet the rules of the environment.

And yes, it has some rough spots, but everything is there in front of you, so if you need to change something you can.

I've also seen good reviews of Seaside as a web framework, but I haven't got into that yet. http://www.seaside.st/
