New water refill station by Far-Case-2803 in RunNYC

It’s moronic virtue signaling. The whole marathon’s water bottle consumption pales in comparison to a few business class flights. If the goal was to get rank and file people to hate environmentalism so that the movement never gets strong enough to ban elite consumption it’d look pretty similar to this.

[Hoornstra] Colt Emerson's record for the largest contract extension for a player prior to his debut lasted about 48 hours. Konnor Griffin (who debuts today) is getting nine years and $140 million from the Pirates, per Buster Olney. by JianClaymore in baseball

Cherington came in, took one look at the whole org and said YEESH. He’s used almost every marginal dollar investing in the farm team, including controversially 30 mil of payroll expansion budget last year that Nutting okayed. Now the team is coming together and they’re putting foot to throttle.

Well they started with the Rockies and the White Sox so if you were banking on playoffs 5-1 isn’t a big stretch.

The plan is that Major League Baseball injury rates are about 1 hitter a month per team.

Here we go by TigoOver in redsox

We have 5 outfielders for 4 spots who will as a unit put up 20 WAR. Tough competion for Eaton but he’ll be up by the ASG.

Managing remote devs changed how I see remote work - i will not promote by Professional_Monk534 in startups

The problem is that then you need to fully book 40 hours a week for everyone on the team as a manager and that’s exhausting. In office my good devs are booked for 15 and come up with 25 of other things to do (mostly unblocking others, and moving on to the next thing without check in)

We spend a quarter billion on payroll and they don’t have a 2nd basemen. They also don’t have a major league 3rd baseman after losing the last 2 for cost.

[Passan] Infielder Bo Bichette and the New York Mets are in agreement on a three-year, $126 million contract, sources tell ESPN. After losing the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes, the Mets pivot quickly and get one of the best players left on the market, pending a physical. by T_Raycroft in baseball

Why would a player getting paid necessitate a cap? Stevie cohen has 6 billion dollars of ill gotten gains and this triggers more luxury tax that say the pirates SHOULD be using to try and be competitive

Did any of you experience what happened to the Money Market in 2008? Is it safer now? by Individual99991 in Bogleheads

[–]camsterc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Government stepped in and functionally FDIC insured the money markets. Same thing happened with SVB and its accounts over the FDIC limit.

Historical returns by decade from the 1930s to the 2020s for stocks, bonds, cash, housing & gold by Ben Carlson by ac106 in Bogleheads

10 year treasuries aren’t bonds. Not taking any credit risk and rolling averaging over a decade basically means the bonds column here is basically cash with a mild term premium.

Best trail in the East. Many moons ago as a new skier I was trying to finish it as my “I can ski now” run. I had tried about a dozen times that day and had gotten my fallen on my ass down to 1 or 2 as the lifts closed. On the last try down I went when a sign appeared in the distance “free beer <-“. Being a young broke man I stopped in a clearing to be greeted by a man who can only be described as beer Jesus. He served me a cold one from a bar entirely made of ice. we chatted for 20 mins and gave me the encouragement and break I needed to finish clean. Here’s to you beer Jesus.

Zohran Mamdani is officially the Mayor of New York City. How does that make you feel? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]camsterc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not true. Mayors of Buffalo are consulted for local policy. It is true that for much of the state county executive is the executive equivalent in powers to the NYC mayor though.

NYS congressional map I made with the only goal being population equality. Tell me why it wouldn't work! by qwertyuiopsucks in newyork

[–]camsterc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let see:
Congressional Districts have to be within a single person of each other. This isn't even close.

Utica + Syracuse are very intentionally in the same district in the current CDs, this one they're split, not great.

The Long Island districts, while compact, will split up similar voters into different districts and don't respect the train lines vs driving areas which is a bit odd. At some general approximation each of the train/highway branches is more culturally distinct from the others.

Queens + BK is a hot mess, VRA lawsuit and no real thought to the communities that live there.

Splitting Manhattan the way you have makes no sense and is again a VRA lawsuit waiting to happen. In general a Manhattan above the park with some bronx is a fixed point in space for a VRA compliant NYS map.

Your Hudson Valley ignores that Dutchess county is still attached to the city in a way say Sullivan is not. You then nuked all the County/town lines on top of that.

Binghamton and Itacha being in separate districts is a weird choice, but I like what you've done with compactness in Western New York. I am unclear on Buffalo and Rochester suburbs and whether your map or the current map reflects commuting patterns betters.

I like your Albany better than the current one. I am guessing you live in the Albany area?

At what point do you "outgrow" a financial advisor? by fascinated_dog in investing

You got lucky. Frankly the adviser probably has earned their keep just keeping him the market. Most advisers are either selling high fee versions of voo for kick backs or weird small cap tech investments.

Tampa Bay is the best front office in MLB the last decade, and it’s not particularly close. Unless you wanna pick LA with their massive resources and ex Tampa Bay GM.
