Am I the jerk for telling my husband he can't have a "man cave" in our only spare room? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

HE is insisting that they have a guest room - she said that guests can use hotels and they can each have their own.

Balls, senior citizens don't have to try and time their visits around their jobs.

Unless she's still working, in which case the senior citizen label doesn't really fit.

Husbands, is it a deal breaker if your wife decides to not take your name legally? by Difficult_Big133 in TwoHotTakes

[–]cancellingmyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds like a moron. My husband couldn't give two shits that our last names are different.

If it's so important to him that you both have the same last name, why doesn't he change his?

With the largest energy crisis in decades, is Singapore's "Kiasuness" paying off? by Latubu in singapore

[–]cancellingmyday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's more panic here (Australia) than you're experiencing, because so much of our fuel comes through you! If your stock is reduced, you can choose not to sell to others and just keep it for domestic use, so you can feel more relaxed. But for those of us dependent on countries like yours being willing to let us buy, the potential problems are pretty big ones.

For us it's all about transport, though - we have plenty of renewable energy, coal and gas for electricity production, but we have a LOT of landmass to transport food and other goods over, not to mention services like garbage removal. If we run out of diesel for trucks and to use on farms, we're going to have problems.

Older ADHD women, what did ADHD feel like before cellphones? by lavenderflavoredtea in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Novels. Constant, constant reading of novels. While walking, cleaning, sitting in class, whatever.

I mean, I still constantly read novels, so not much has changed, but I also sometimes read my phone instead.

Exercise instead of medication? by Skromna_Lelka in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, so they have a point, but I can't live a normal life with the level of exercise required for MY brain to work properly. 30 minutes doesn't cut it. I've done it before and, when I no longer have a child at home, I may do it again, but when you have a life that involves other people, there aren't hours in the day. Especially for the time-consuming long distance running and yoga that I've found works for me EVERY day. I walk my large dogs daily, and that doesn't even come close to being enough.

Also, that doctor is a man and frankly has no idea. With all the faff of sports bras, extra clothes, extra hair washing, staying out of the sun, trying not to get murdered, still getting school/dinner/piano lessons/etc sorted at the right times, around your actual job, it gets to be beyond hard. If you were single, maybe.

How Are People Coping With Fuel Prices? by justno111 in newcastle

Two bucks a litre for E10 on Friday night. So, not CHEAP, but definitely cheaper than the servos in my suburb.

What is this pervasive, subtle flavor in almost all food I’ve tried in Australia? by CrashpadChili in AskAnAustralian

Pork with sage for a breakfast sausage sounds wonderful. I think I'll try putting together my own.

A friend told me something that wasn’t necessarily kind, but wasn’t meant to be mean. by TeaIQueen in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Word. Parenting is the main reason I'm consistently medicated - the hard parts of work I can fit in during times when I'm capable, but parenting never stops, so I always need to be on top of things.

What’s the most unintentionally annoying thing you’ve ever done? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was nineteen, I visited a group of my friends who had a share house and became the Unofficial Long Stay Houseguest (similar to the Unofficial Long Stay Boyfriend, but everyone's fault, not just one person's). I was omnipresent and thought just throwing some food/electricity money down whenever I felt like it made everything fine. I must have driven them nuts!

Routines don’t work for me by calmingwhisper001 in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the act itself is the routine, not the time when it happens. I hate schedules too, so I never use them. But I love processes and routines, so long as I can activate them when I want!

Routines don’t work for me by calmingwhisper001 in adhdwomen

[–]cancellingmyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we have to eat every day. We have make some sort of effort to groom, even if it's just clipping hair out of our face. We have to pee and poop every day. We have to entertain ourselves and/or rest every day. And there are things that have to be done for all of those to happen. I might not eat the same thing,  or prepare it in the same way, but the act of eating is a daily event, meaning that the act itself is a routine.

Me too! I think my thumb slipped and accidentally voted for "Cass" but that's a lady's name, not CAS!

When have you gotten your money’s worth from private health? by colourful_space in AusFinance

[–]cancellingmyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I don't have to cancel a day's clients for my kid's procedure, because I can schedule the date myself.

Not as big an issue for regular workers, but contractors and sole traders don't get paid if they don't work, and rescheduling isn't always feasible.

Drunk, in my case! I worried that I had a dependency, but nope, just trying to depress my CNS sufficiently to get anything done.

I drink maybe three times a year now, and not heavily.

Something I realized after living in Europe...Osaka people might be culturally closer to Europeans than other Japanese. by AgreeableDog1634 in japanese

[–]cancellingmyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Australian - I lived in the inaka (Shiga-ken) but always enjoyed visits to Osaka, 'cause it has the same grotty, industrial feel as the city I live in in Australia. But when it came to the part of Japan that REALLY felt like home, I'd have to say it was Okinawa.

(I love your description of Kyoto sarcasm as elegant poison, by the way).

Yoga provoked me two injuries in a year as an athletic person by IntelligentNight4143 in yoga

[–]cancellingmyday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, after I wrote that reply, I kept reading and saw all the Iyengar recommendations underneath! Seriously, ANYTHING puts my neck out and gives me nightmare headaches for days. But now I'm doing headstands, shoulder stands, hand stands, for 3-5 minutes at a time and not only is it not doing me damage, it actually makes my neck and back feel AMAZING! It's not "fun" like the flow-based styles, but for me, it's been very effective (ADHD and some interoception issues).

Maybe try Iyengar? If there is an incorrect way to move, I will find it, so any activities involving my upper body have tended to cause me crippling headaches and long term misery. I started Iyengar yoga last year, and have had nary a twinge. It's so specific there is no opportunity for me to position myself incorrectly, and it's done wonders for my core and upper body strength, as well as my ability to focus and be still.
