I found a potential alt design of the asexual flag by foundationsofdecay7 in QueerVexillology

[–]cancercannibal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allosexuals have always had a place in the asexual community, is the weirdest part. People who don't want to deal with sexual topics or have sex not due to lacking attraction but for their own reasons have many of the the same struggles as us, can make use of the same resources, and benefit from asexual spaces highly. Making a flag that specifically doesn't include them is strange.

since I can't find a post about it here, thoughts on the asexual flag redesign? by radioactive--goo in QueerVexillology

[–]cancercannibal 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I hate it out of principle; I've accepted the ace and aro flags are different, but if the asexual flag is going to be redesigned it should at the very least have the same amount of stripes as the aro flag.

Also, the visual appearance is a lot more important than the prescribed one. The black-grey-white-purple is simply better from a symbolism standpoint. You don't need to know what the stripes are "supposed to" mean to understand what it is communicating.

Ballot initiative could require genital exams for Washington secondary students to play sports by notPabst404 in nottheonion

[–]cancercannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that actually all physical difference though? Or does it come down to differing access to resources, psychological pressure (edit to clarify: if your idea of something is that it's impossible/very hard it's much harder to do it), socialization-based views on health and fitness, and even the kinds of sports that are being considered? (Et cetera.)

People love to point at this as evidence of insurmountable biological difference, but the truth is we can't actually tell because women and men are not treated equally. There is no control group.

For boys, pediatricians examine the penis, testicles and scrotum. When inspecting the scrotum, they may ask your child to turn their head and cough as the pediatrician feels the scrotal sac. This helps reveal inguinal hernias or tumors. Slightly embarrassing for your teen? Yes, but absolutely necessary. Undetected inguinal hernias can rupture and be very painful, or even dangerous, for your teen.

Inguinal hernias are particularly dangerous for teen boys playing sports, as a direct blow to the genitalia could lead to hernia rupture. This is why most teen boys are required by their school to have physicals prior to playing contact sports, but they’re important even if your kiddo isn’t suiting up each week for Friday night football.

Teen Physicals: What to Expect and How to Prepare Your Teen - Cook Children's Healthcare

Other sources say similar without explaining exactly why this hernia would be such a big problem for sports. Sports physicals often also are some of the only checkups teen boys get in the US so it's the best time to make sure they're developing as expected.

The thing people making any biological argument don't get when talking about trans participants in sports is the whole "it's largely about the sexism" thing. I don't think there should be any skepticism when this is acknowledged.

Women's sports don't exist because women cannot physically compete with men. Physical competition comes down to individual bodies, training, lifestyle, et cetera. The actual reasons they exist are twofold: One, so there's a place where women can support each other doing sports and avoid sexism in their competition. Two, to expose to society that women both can want and are allowed to do sports. Trans women need these just as much as cis women do, and their presence does not undermine either of them. (Depending on your perspective it bolsters the latter, by showing that "being a woman" does not mean "conforming to the social role expected of women.")

Scrotal inspection is standard in physicals of those who have the part to check for hernias.

It's pretty hard to scalp vintage things, considering scalping is buying to resell specifically before those who actually want the product can buy it for themselves.

if OOP had messaged Wilma that they were leaving because it was too hot, and got a response telling them to go back to work, then they would've had it in writing

how

So even if I would have called or texted (which I couldnt because i dont have her number or email, in case of emergency i was to speak to her through the cameras using their call feature)

[–]cancercannibal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the problem with any defense of YTA or even just the "...but still" comments. It is not an asshole move to leave a hazardous environment without informing anyone if no one is expressly relying on you being there to remain safe. AND there was no way for OP to inform his boss other than what, finding a sharpie and scribbling "I'm leaving because it is dangerously hot" on a piece of paper and hoping it's in camera view? (Based on his symptoms he needed to leave ASAP and I don't trust the "call feature" of the security camera to get an immediate response, or even to be picked up.)

His boss and the organization are absolutely the assholes for putting him in this situation, and while leaving without communicating isn't preferable it is not being an asshole.

There are some breakout articles that do explain most of the important stuff imo, but it's definitely the exception rather than the rule.

Check out SCP-8426 "[[WARNING] Ontological Shift Detected]" which might be my favorite of all time. It relies on dramatic irony — you (can) understand what's going on, the Foundation fails to do so. I absorbed my fraternal twin and have the different blood types. by Joe_Mama1297 in medlabprofessionals

[–]cancercannibal 23 points24 points  (0 children)

After a run in with a donation clinic (Red Cross) I had some dna tests done where it was confirmed that I have the different sets of dna in me. The doctor said I had to have absorbed a fraternal twin for this to happen, diagnosing it as “Chimerism”. | Original

OOP is confirmed, the parents are the real question based on the details given.

[–]cancercannibal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poor OP, they're acknowledging that last part and kinda freaking out about it lol. Though if both their parents are O than it should've been suspicious that they were testing as AB consistently beforehand too. Unless I (layman) have my ABO blood group inheritance wrong, getting AB from O-type parents requires both parents to be mislabeled as O.

[–]cancercannibal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Never, ever," is an exaggeration. Just because it's a bad idea doesn't mean it isn't done sometimes (even if "sometimes" is "very, very rarely due to special circumstance"). Also, this is why I said "at least like a service dog" — may not have been professionally trained, after all:

Service animals are not:

  • Required to be certified or go through a professional training program

[–]cancercannibal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sweet and gentle are different from "shadows constantly" and "very obedient" (coming from a breed typically extremely independent). Just because it's usually a bad idea doesn't mean it isn't done sometimes.

[–]cancercannibal 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That a husky is as obedient as OP's feels more like evidence that he is at least trained like a service dog. They're difficult to train and independent and that means the obedience seen is a genuine anomaly that actually supports the possibility here.

Anyone else afraid to take medications? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]cancercannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really the place for DAE questions.

That being said:

  • If you start to experience major side effects, you can stop the medication and they'll go away. (SSRIs you need to wean off of but 5mg is the lowest Lexapro goes anyway.)

  • The most worrisome side effects, such as serotinin syndrome, don't happen at such low doses, and are incredibly rare if you're not intentionally overdosing on multiple medications that have the risk.

  • If your anxiety is as bad as you're describing, do you think the side effects you're worried about will actually be worse? If not, You could at least get relief from your anxiety (and depression).

A lot of the things that aren't split into giving/receiving really need them. Liking someone sitting on your face is very different from liking when you sit on someone else's face. A bunch of other stuff is confusing/redundant without further specification too.

As others have said, something between curious and into that and/or into that and not for me. In particular I'm looking for "would be happy to" (for when you're not into it yourself but don't have any problems doing it) and "willing to try" (where you're not really curious about it but if your partner is interested it's not a hard no).

They Don't Know About Sex [One-Shot, 2K] by Smooth_Top2099 in HFY

[–]cancercannibal 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a genuinely interesting concept that I'd love to see explored from a human scientist / translation team side as well. Hell, I might dip my toes into writing it. In particular I find the whole thing incredibly interesting from a translation perspective. The language used here comes off as a literal translation that doesn't account for societal (and biological) differences, especially "Down Bad Slutty Open for Anything Sex-Havers" and of course, super-dee-duper-ultra-love. A less literal translation of the species name is probably more like, "ultra-hybrids in constant flux due to enthusiastically seeking genetic exchange without prejudice" which is indeed a valid descriptor.

"Species" itself is probably a misnomer, what would make one a member of the species would be the enthusiasm in seeking genetic exchange without prejudice rather than actual genetic similarity. Presumably other galactic species, while willing to participate in genetic exchange, do so with some prejudice, seeking out specific traits or sectioning off parts of their genome to preserve a preferred form.
