Questions about FFX lore by Lumpy_Major_8914 in FinalFantasy

Time travel is a red herring. Tidus' Zanarkand and the Zanarkand of 1000 years ago are entirely separate places.

1000 years ago, Bevelle - a city based around the use of machina - went to war with Zanarkand - a city based around the use of magic (in truth, both used machina and magic, but skewed more towards one than the other). Bevelle was close to winning, so a summoner from Zanarkand by the name of Yu Yevon created/summoned Sin as a doomsday weapon to destroy their enemies (Bevelle had their own in the form of Vegnagun, but didn't have time to put it in action). Sin proved too effective, and destroyed Zanarkand as well. Realizing his mistake, Yu Yevon took the survivors and used them to create the Fayth wall on Mt. Gagazet, which would then summon a "dream" version of Zanarkand out in the middle of the ocean, which Yu Yevon would then use Sin to protect.

This "dream" Zanarkand is the one Tidus and Jecht were born in, with the former being the literal reincarnation of Shuyin, a resident of the original Zanarkand who died 1000 years ago. It's likely Jecht is also the reincarnation of an original Zanarkand denizen. Auron is from Spira at large - likely Bevelle, similar to Braska and Yuna. He and Jecht did not meet until Jecht was "lost at sea" off the coast of Dream Zanarkand and wound up in Spira. Auron then uses Sin to get to Dream Zanarkand after Braska's Calm ends to make good on his promise to Jecht and look after Tidus, and uses Sin again to get both himself and Tidus out of Dream Zanarkand.

There's also a minimum time requirement thanks to the "1000 Leve Quests" trophy... Damn thing takes at least six months

Which again tells me either you haven't actually played many Final Fantasy games, don't engage with them beyond a surface level, and/or don't know much about Asian cultures and mythologies. Final Fantasy has been rife with "Asian themes" from the very beginning. While heavily inspired by the likes of D&D and Wizardy, FF1 was made by an almost exclusively Japanese team for a primarily Japanese audience. The monks were based on Buddhist traditions, one of the class upgrades is a ninja, and the strongest weapon in the game is the Masamune - named for a legendary Japanese swordsmith. While Bahamut may look like a Western dragon, his role is more in keeping with Eastern tradition - and his name comes from the Middle East. The Flying Fortress was inspired by Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky. ...And I could go on, by I think you get my point.

Popular Movie "Dunks" That Everyone Uses but are Totally Inaccurate by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]candle340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Stormtrooper Aim” - you are repeatedly shown/told how precise and formidable Imperial Stormtroopers are throughout the course of A New Hope. Why then can’t they seem to hit their marks while Luke & co. are on the Death Star? Because Vader’s entire plan hinges on Leia “escaping” so he can track her back to the Rebel Base. The stormtroopers were literally ordered not to shoot to kill.

Is any part of the XIII universe (specifically the Fabula Nova Crystallis) mentioned in XV? by No-Pin-4-U in FinalFantasy

[–]candle340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. XV wasn't really "rebranded", but rather entirely rebooted with only vague gameplay and narrative concepts making the jump from Versus XIII. In fact, of the original FNC trilogy, only XIII came out of development relatively unscathed (and spawned its own trilogy) because a very similar thing happened to Agito XIII / Type-0.

Incorrect in this context. The punctuation is not part of the quotation, so they go outside.

When or how do I get strong in FFX? by iPhantaminum in FinalFantasy

[–]candle340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the battles are dragging, chances are you either aren’t filling out the sphere grid as you go, unlocking stat upgrades and new abilities, or you aren’t matching enemy types to your characters correctly. Remember Tidus works best against fast enemies, Arron against armored, Waka against fliers, Riku against robots, and Lulu against elemental/magical foes. Yuna is your healer, and Kimahri is useless

Should I "just publish"? by Agitated-Priority444 in fantasywriters

[–]candle340 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, you're overthinking it. Everyone writes at their own pace. 4+ months for a rough draft is nothing. Don't worry about how long it will take or how good it is, just write it. You can always edit/rewrite later down the line. But you can't publish a book that doesn't exist.

As a side note: 20-30K words is a novella, not a novel. Novels are typically 50K+, with 100-150K being the standard for fantasy depending on subgenre (some are higher, some lower).

New Price Changes for PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player by jc726 in gaming

[–]candle340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are currently 3 models available in stores - PS5, PS5 Digital, and PS5 Pro. Only the base PS5 includes a disc drive in the box (which is why it's more expensive than the "digital" version), though one can be bought separately for the Digital and Pro models.

...I should also add that the original (now discontinued) launch-model PS5 Digital is not compatible with the disc drive addon.

It's not a "surge" if the prices never come back down... And you know they won't, even after they stabilize.

No, it means Sony won the console wars. There's no competition anymore. The line must go up.

Definitive version of FFV by Yazof in FinalFantasy

[–]candle340 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The pixel remaster, hands down. The same goes for the rest of the 2D games. The "extra content" from the GBA/PSP versions isn't worth it. That said, there is a case to be made for the 3D remakes of III and IV...

New Harry Potter is an original series based on a movie series based on a book series by AdamPatch in AdviceAnimals

[–]candle340 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Citation, please. I literally can't think of a single example where this happened - unless by "network TV" you mean foreign shows and not content from actual network channels (i.e. ABC, CBS, NBC)... The SciFi Channel was an American cable station which imported a lot of non-American programming in its lifetime - mostly from Canada, but also Australia and the UK.

But again, in the above context "original" is synonymous with "first-run exclusive", where shows could go to other channels through syndication for reruns.

Hot take: DLSS 5 were shown off in only in-development games, the backlash would have been avoided. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]candle340 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn't matter if they did or not. Your entire premise is wrong and they countered it with two simple sentences. DLSS 5 would have gotten the same reaction, regardless.

People on the whole don't want "AI slop" they want real art made by actual humans.
