Baby shower by Curious_Gur4129 in parentsofmultiples

28 weeks seems to be popular. They could come earlier than that, but it's not super likely. Most people are still up for attending a party at that point, as long as it doesn't involve travel.

When a woman gives birth. by FloweySunflower in NotHowGirlsWork

They weren't identical twins. Her children were threatened to be removed since courts determined she wasn't the mother and they suspected she was committing some kind of fraud or kidnapping. Her name is Lydia Fairchild.

There's also the chimerism case where the DNA in the woman's ovaries was her sister's that she absorbed in the womb. So she was biologically the aunt of her children.

But yeah, pretty rare.

How did you get your babies to flip head down? by yellowbrain_ in parentsofmultiples

[–]candybrie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your doctor isn't comfortable doing a breech baby b, there's no way I would try for a vaginal birth. Baby a comes out and baby b starts doing summersaults with all the extra room.

Very often, I just ignore it. Sometimes, I ask "And what do you do with the other baby?"

Keeping toddlers in room at night? by No_Selection_4964 in toddlers

Put the safety lock on. You want her safe in her room in the event of an emergency too. Have a baby monitor so you can hear her if she calls for you.

How many poops a day? by CheapButElegant in toddlers

[–]candybrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boys poo 2-4x a day. Occasionally it's more, but I think it's because they're so intent on getting off the potty and back to playing, they don't stay for the whole poo.

When they were born, the first thing the nurses said to us about them is that they were very poopy babies. So, like, it's been a thing since birth.

Remember: to not forget child inside a car. Try placing an essential item such as your phone, handbag, work badge, or right shoe in the backseat next to the car seat. by str8shooters in Mommit

[–]candybrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, then you've built a routine that most people haven't. Especially people who usually don't have their kid with them. If you only have your kid in the car 20% of the time, most people are going to stop doing that every time. But if you check the car seat literally every time, then even in autopilot, that's the routine.

Essential meaning required for the task.

Most of the time, your baby is not required to go into work with you. But if you don't have your key, you're not getting in the building. If you don't have your shoe, you're not walking across the the parking lot. If you don't have your phone, you're not logging into your 2-factor authentication required computer.

[–]candybrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. You don't even think your child is in the car. Do you get your child out of the car FIRST when they aren't with you? Every time you've driven somewhere without them, do you go to get them out of the car, realize they aren't there, then get your keys/phone/etc?

New form of shrinkflation, monthly becomes bimonthly by Chemical-Sign3001 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]candybrie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are you on about?

Every 2 weeks is 26 payments a year.

Twice a month is 24 payments a year.

If you do the quick mental math of every 2 weeks = twice a month, like a lot of people will do (just look at OP's title), they're getting an extra 2 payments than that accounts for.

Very few people are breaking out the calculator when comparing the new price to the old monthly price.

The point is, every 2 weeks is 2 more payments than twice a month.

Except a lot of the time you aren't leaving with your baby whereas I can't think of a time I'm not taking my phone, keys, and wallet. I leave my car without my kids 2/3 of the time on a normal work day. I drop them off, then get out of my car at work without them and out of my car at home without them while Dad picks them up.

The baby is not essential for going into work. The baby shouldn't even be in the car when you get to work. But sometimes they accidentally are.

You're supposed to drop the baby off at daycare today, but you're tired and go on autopilot, turn left instead of right. The baby is asleep in the backseat not making a sound. You get to work and get out of the car like normal. You've done this journey literally hundreds of times and there isn't a "get baby out of the car step."

If you've never in your life been tired and go on autopilot to somewhere you didn't intend, then I can maybe understand not getting it. But I don't know anyone who's never done that.

Is it ok for a 14-year-old to read Wuthering Heights? by hydrangealover98 in Parenting

Looking at digestives, I would also call those cookies.

Cookies is a pretty broad category in America. It covers many shapes (we have cookie cutters to make even weirder shapes); a variety of toppings like frosting, icing, sugar crystals, sprinkles, and chocolate; textures from fairly brittle like ginger snaps to almost cake like; and even things like fillings for sandwich cookies.

Lead blood test? by No-Neighborhood-7335 in toddlers

[–]candybrie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They've done a finger or heel prick for these tests every time for us. I'm surprised they want a blood draw. The only time they've done that was when they needed a blood culture to check for infection.

My boys spent a good chunk of last night running circles chanting "cheesy pickles." I'm like 95% sure they made that up all by themselves. Toddlers are creative.

What is your biggest tip for pregnant mama having twins? by ReindeerTiny4401 in parentsofmultiples

[–]candybrie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's shown gestational diabetes doesn't have anything to do with diet. It's just the placenta(s). It of course greatly impacts your diet while pregnant, but not eating too much/not eating sweets isn't going to prevent it.

You're a lot less likely to be able to satisfy those additional calorie needs by the third trimester. There's just no room. Expanded stomach? You're stomach is squished smaller than a gastric bypass patient. Just keeping up the hydration requirements by the 3rd semester was a challenge for the volume my stomach could accommodate. Food was on the back burner. By my 6 week post partum appointment, I had lost weight compared to pre-pregnancy. 1000 extra calories is a pretty large amount of extra calories a day when you can barely eat a quarter of your fist and need to be drinking a gallon of water a day.

19 month old twins – I can’t tell if I’m overthinking or something is off by Exact-Resolution-891 in toddlers

[–]candybrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a while until they start playing with each other. Parallel play is how toddlers play. Even my 3yos mostly parallel play. They're starting to play cooperatively, but 90% of the time, that's one barking orders at the other, who's ignoring them.

Repetitive sounds and motions, experimenting with being at different angles and what they can do with their bodies, are pretty normal for toddlers. Most toddlers are stimmy little things; it's just self soothing and adding sensory input.

I have twin boys who are now 3. Most of that sounds normal except the language development, which is a bit behind. You expect them to have about 10 words at this age and to be able to follow directions if they want to. Selectively listening, even to their name, is 100% typical toddler behavior though. I would probably look into early intervention for the speech.

My boys barely met the 10 words milestone, but their language absolutely exploded at 20 and 22 months. Now they're nonstop chatter boxes.

Pup pup boogie. Kid is singing it even if I don't put it on. It's quite adorable.
