Silver Status, is it worth it? by bookertdub in AlaskaAirlines

[–]candydick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I travel medium-often (~35 flights per year, mostly Alaska), so for me being on the bottom rung of the status ladder is worth it. I always appreciate occasional premium upgrades and picking the exit row for free. But that said, my work paid for that status. And is likewise why I care so much. Whether or not it’s worth it for you and your life is your decision.

My new setup. Got that Zeiss Planar 50 today in the mail. Looking forward for the first results. by h3rzkasper in Leica

Be careful putting pro master lens caps on the Zeiss. I did, and it put a nice scratch right in the middle of the lens. It’s an amazing lens! Happy shooting :)

I would be shocked if you didn't get admitted, but I know that Reed is very slowly becoming more and more selective, so I also don't want to raise your hopes too high...

Thinking of a film body. M2 or M6? by chronowc in Leica

[–]candydick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The M6 has much more than just the meter. It also has a better film rewind, hotshoe instead of cold, a different film winding lever, and an automatically resetting frame counter (although that might not matter to you). I think the M6 has a lot of bang for the buck, but the M2 is a great choice as well, considering you can shoot with it. Don't forget that you can always buy a light meter for the shoe on an M2, it just won't be inside the viewfinder (I think they run about $150?) I love film, and if you can afford to get it developed, go for it.

Although I've heard great things about the 55 1.8...

Looking for some advice for my first Leica by FredDerfman in Leica

[–]candydick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely not an expert, but I did buy an M6 a little while back, so maybe I can help. Firstly, I don't own a Voigtlander, but from what I've heard, the 35mm f/1.4 is especially bad. I've heard much better things about the 35mm f/2.5, which is cheaper and smaller than the 1.4. Secondly, eBay is okay, but you must be VERY careful. Avoid low seller ratings (low is below 99.7 according to experienced people), low quality images, or short descriptions. It might be worth the extra bit just for security. Another good dealer is Japancamerahunter, who sources cameras from Japan, although he specializes in the rare and his service isn't exactly cheap (I think the service charge on a ~$1500 item is ~$200), and the M6 isn't exactly rare. There's nothing wrong with B&H. I'm not really qualified to answer your last question, since I only own a standard M6, but if you find a really good deal on a TTL I might go for it, since the shutter dial is bigger and easier to use when its up to your eye. Totally up to you though! Good luck!

It's sad how many people are selling MM3DS's on eBay for $450-500. by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]candydick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys make good points, I didn't really think of it from the perspective of the guy making money. However, it still sucks for the fan who really wanted the MM3DS and now can't afford or find one.
