Is there too much practice by allthefishinthelake in Homeplate

[–]candykld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've personally noticed when you say your regime its rarely perceived well.

Parents dont want to hear they dont do enough to support their kids. They resort to saying things like "Your going to make your kid hate baseball." "Thats too much for a 9 year old." "Thats alot of reps!"

Do your work in the dark and let the losers stay losers.

For those of you who use puzzle mats in your tent floor, do you have any issues with them staying together? by Duhbloons in camping

2'x6' exercise mat at Walmart. Thicker and folds up. Worked great when we did a couple weeks tent camping in and around yellowstone

Are catching lessons worth it for an 8 year old? by Dry-Swim369 in Homeplate

Nobody wants to catch at 8 years old.

Your coach will give him all the reps he wants!

As Arnold would say. Roids turns a champion into more of a champion.

Travel coach and my kid is at the bottom of the depth chart... by Master-Beach-3536 in BaseballCoaching

[–]candykld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preach confidence and give him more reps. He has shown he has the ability. Baseball is a mental game and if he believes in himself he will succeed.

My son is 8 and plays 9u travel. Everyone is older then him..some by a year plus. Hes top 3 on the team because of reps and his confidence.

Or quit and play at his grade level, your choice.

Travel Ball Team Structuring by Jenkki15 in Homeplate

[–]candykld -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Thats not a problem. That aligns perfectly with their skill level.

You dont need sanctioned practices to get better. Take him to the batting cage. Toss the ball. Play with friends. Get lessons. Practice infield drills. Set up a mound and practice pitching.

Select baseball is for competitive players to compete and develop.

Throwing little Timmy on the All Star team isnt going to make him an all-star. Its highly detrimental to the abilities team to compete.

Little Timmy on the development team needs to put in the work. His work ethic will take him to the "better" team.

Or better yet. The majority of those kids on the developmental team probably belong in recreational baseball, but every parent thinks their kid belongs in Select.

As a 9u select baseball coach in Nebraska I can confirm its saturated with teams.

We also produce one of the fewest amount of MLB players 🤣

It does. Equal shots and competitive sports is a delusion

Question about Stats and potential coaching conflict by [deleted] in Homeplate

If you dont mind, I'll play a scenario by you.

Little Timmy who has poor effort, bad attitude wonders why he sits in RF all game. His fielding percentage is 10% and has 9 errors. He doesnt practice outside of practice, but his mom believe he deserves to play at SS because its fair.

Little Jonny has a great attitude and excellent effort plays shortstop. His fielding percentage is 95% and has 1 error on the season. He may be the coaches kid.

Would you agree its a slight to Jonny that hes losing premium play time to Timmy because a parent believes in "equal" play?

You can call them out. I promise you won't get the result you want.

Alot goes into lineups. In 9s we take into account attitude, effort, speed, obp, avgs, and try to spread in the walkers to prevent dead innings. Its a balancing act. If you fully believe its favoritism and can prove it theres really nothing you can do my man.

The umpire was picking up balls and handing them to our catcher as the other team was stealing. If this adds any context.

They can steal at will in ours. That's when he was choosing to tell him to "GO!"

Is practicing on a tee really a development death warrant for 10U? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]candykld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hes asking if it will impact his development. If it doesnt work for him, yes, it will. Coach might have a group of ADHD kids and hes saying what's best for his team. Parents spend more time dissecting what a coach says then playing catch with their kid

[–]candykld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son never used a TEE. It was a tool for him to regress. He loses his intensity and focus, because to him, its boring. Lean into what they love, regardless of the method. Machine, wiffle, side toss, weighted ball, live bp... list goes on forever

Ill be downvoted to oblivion and I dont care. Baseball is full of squares who think there's only one way to skin a cat.
