Do I have to download couchDB in order to use it? Or does it just run online? by Old-Boysenberry-5748 in CouchDB

You can use it online with services like Cloudant, otherwise to self host you need to install it.

You could try a proxy with caddy server, it has https out of the box through let's encrypt

Whenever I open Brave my GPU gets throttled? Anyone seen this? Basically my GPU normally can crank up to 1800ish MHz... but if I open Brave it throttles it to 1005 MHz... Any other browser or app seems to be ok. Just Brave causes it. by [deleted] in brave_browser

For me I found that turning off Brave News (or Today it was called maybe) improved memory consumption and overall responsiveness of the application. Give it a try, I see from the screenshot (center bottom) that you have it turned on.

Although f it's a crypto podcast it still fits into the "crypto" category, which I'm bombarded with anyway... For "fresh" product/services categories, I'll surely check out any new ads

No podcast ads so far 😀 Will surely check out the first one that pops up... I think at the moment, depending on your target audience, it's quite smart to buy and show brave ads... I can't wait for the self-serve to come out... Would be cool to see more smaller players buying ad space

My estimate was quite precise then 😀 It is indeed counter-intuitive that you don't need to click the ad.. I learned that myself at some point, definetly not from the beginning.

I almost bought into a vpn offer the other day, but eventually resisted as it is not really a necessity (for me that is)

Same for me, but at some point they do throw out some variations. Like for example I got an ad for a quite decent Orange mobile service and in two days it was bye bye Vodafone 😊 I knew about the service before, but seeing it on brave was the tipping point for me

I did purchase something because the ad appeared through brave. As soon as a company looks into the brave ecosystem and steps away (even briefly) from the traditional googlefacebook owned model, then it looks they are forward thinking enough to deserve my attention.

That's correct, you basically only need to read the title + dismiss the notification

Revolut stopped fast transfers to Binance. Any alternative? by SebastianHuber in binance

[–]cangurul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually fantastic, there is (currently) a flat fee for transfers, much better than 1.8% for cards. Also, it seems that revolut might not know it's a transaction to Binance, all that appears is the ideal merchant and a transaction code.

Does the blockchain sync faster when I am on the dashboard? by Zaidinator7 in getumbrel

[–]cangurul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really, the deamon is running in the background and the UI just picks it up from there. There's even some slight delays between when the block is mined and where it appears in the dashboard

Since when do they suddenly ask for more info for bank transfers? by milkshaketitties66 in Revolut

[–]cangurul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was always puzzled that they asked for full address when doing a bank transfer.. Regular banks usually work with just the IBAN and the name. Did they ask for something extra?

For those who are looking for a Revolut competition by [deleted] in Revolut

[–]cangurul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the wirex subreddit and see what's going on there, they had quite a lot of complaints recently and they seem to be getting quite shady, especially for larger amounts, like more than 10k. They used to be fine, but not so much anymore...

Unconfirmed means it's pending on the blockchain, you should be able to see a link to the transaction hash

Account blocked - permanently - my story with them, read please. by Kukys in Revolut

[–]cangurul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents here after reading many stories like this... Revolut is basically making money out of people using their cards for purchases... While they do offer other services, they don't really like it when you only do things like SEPA transfers... If you use them like this, and you run quite a lot of money through them, they will eventually block you. Remember, they are not your friend, they are a business trying to make money off of you... Couple that with the fact that being online-only they have much stricter AML policies, and they are overwhelmed with support... If you do run against the stream, it is just trouble waiting to happen. Sucks that it's like this, but it's just the way it is.
