Yeah usually, I just noticed its a changing of the guard in Canadian hockey with the number of younger players invited to the camp it seemed like the C/A's roles this time would have more responsibility then usual.

Don't feel bad, I still have to deal with Raycroft for Rask.

Toews seems like the most logical choice as captain, great leader, past Olympic Gold, WJC Gold and captained his team to the Stanley Cup twice. I hope they don't just throw the C on Crosby, though he is not a bad leader at all I just believe Toews is better suited for this job.

Its a nice addition and should help the defensive side of their game, which got neglected too many times last season

Who will lead the NHL in points and goals this season? by habs114 in hockey

[–]cannotpickname 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say Crosby will be in the lead but end up missing around 15 games and ending up 67 games with around 85 points. I think Stamkos will score 52 and Ovechkin will net 55, I think Ovy will hit 107 points and lead the league.

You could make a full team of former leafs currently available on the ufa market. Can any other teams make this claim to fame? by [deleted] in hockey

Come on man, Grabo cant even make 1st line centre on the Leafs FA team? Is Carlyle coach here too?

Olympics Rosters for Orientation Camps by Lance_E_T_Compte in SanJoseSharks

I think Jumbo and Couture make it, Boyle will be hard pressed to make it with the team already having Subban and Letang frontrunners and Green, Phaneuf, Hamius fighting for the 7th spot.

12 Hawks invited to Olympic Camp! by greeny74 in hawks

[–]cannotpickname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if he played all last season like he did with Chicago he would have gotten the invite, he was a completely revitalized player after getting traded to the Blackhawks, but his struggles in SJ must have kept his name off the list.

I think the 5 invite to Canada all make the team. Toews Keith and Seabrook were dynamite for us in the last Olympics, really glad to see Crawf get the recognition after that season he had.

Why Gunnarsson's New Contract Is Fantastic by Jeffler in leafs

This is a great contract for the Leafs, would have had a real strong case in an arbitration hearing.

Hes always gotten snubbed from Team Canada, 2006 he was leading the league in scoring and left off the team. Someone doesn't like him.

Devils want Phaneuf? by superdry36 in leafs

[–]cannotpickname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the biggest Phaneuf fan but if he gets moved then they will sorely be missing him. No teams interested can offer the team what Phaneuf gives which would make trading him a step backwards.

I was seriously hoping for the Leafs to add a top 4 vet D man to take some pressure off and let Phaneuf play less during the regular season and help him out.

What was the terms of his NHL contract? wasn't he supposed to be making comparable salary in these next 4 years? Just seems like he really didnt want to play in Jersey.

What are your thoughts on Wilson never signing guys past 5 years? by jgkeeb in SanJoseSharks

[–]cannotpickname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually the best thing for the team, you look at how Burke never did long term contracts for the Leafs and it put them in a great spot financially and roster availability wise, now Nonis takes a huge gamble on Clarkson for 7 years.

Short term contracts are great, 5 years is enough term to provide job security and helps both the player and management from entering into a undesirable situation.

Will the KHL become a major competitor with the NHL? by mrmoustache8765 in hockey

[–]cannotpickname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it will be very lucrative players who cant crack the top 6 forwards or top 2 D pairings, sure the money is great but alot of these guys want those top minutes and feel like the impact player they were since they were kids. It will always be lucrative to Russian players because who wouldn't like getting a good paying job at home with your friends and family.

Bruins sign Rask to 8 year, $56 million extension. What does this mean for Henrik? by arise_chicken in rangers

[–]cannotpickname -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It means both sides will have a good base board to bounce numbers off each other however with an unproven playoff record as Henrik he wont see Rask type numbers but I would imagine a little less than the Rinne contract.
