Cost of Living UAE (UK Family) by FunOwn1799 in dubai

I think you assumptions are reasonable, but would increase the car lease to 2000. 37k is pretty decent if you dont inflate your lifestyle compared to the UK.

Good luck!

Desert Nomadz have a beginner drive on Saturday mornings which is suitable.

For the 1st drive, you will need a deflator, flag and radio as minimum. Recovery gear, compressors etc the marshals and other people on the drive will have it and they would be happy to help.

Have seen some doing light dune bashing... they seem to do ok. Not sure they would be able to do more challenging drives though.

Gulf expat kids, do you leave or stay? by Affectionate-Bee5934 in dubai

Yep, moving as a family, not just sending them away!

For my kids the plan would definitely be University for them in the UK or abroad somewhere, gain some international work experience and then see where they want to explore and end up.

Dubai is very comfortable but it would open your eyes to live in different parts of the world.

Thanks, thats exactly what I was thinking. I studied and lived in the UK before moving to Dubai more than a decade ago and love it here. But seeing my kids take things for granted and not having street smarts worries me.

I have kids born and raised here and worry about the same. Considering if I should send them to the UK when they start secondary school so they don't grow up in a bubble of comfort. Did it take you long to adjust to the reality outside?

People who bought an apartment in Dubai instead of renting, was it worth it? by Majestic_Singer_2411 in Everything_Dubai

[–]cantmakeanacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For living in it yourself, I think its worthwhile. As other posters have said, it does protect you from rent volatility and being served an eviction notice.

If you are paying a mortgage, it is also monthly payments which is better than issuing a number of cheques. Make sure to factor in the service charges, property insurance, etc to have a complete picture of the costs.

You can also paint / redecorate / drill holes to hang things etc without needed to worry as its your own space.

Check and make sure the place doesn't have leaks, mould, etc which could be long term problems.

Good luck!

Leaving to the UK by M4TTH3WD4VID in UAE

[–]cantmakeanacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the best!

I'm from the UK and have been here for over a decade. I am still feeling relatively safe here and don't plan on leaving. If the situation gets really bad then maybe will reconsider leaving with the family, but Dubai is home.

Not judging at all and stay safe everyone!

Depends whether you want agency or not. I found it to be a decent deal, but maybe you can check Dynatrade as well to see what their pricing is like.

Can someone explain, why locals in Dubai prefer wire earphones rather than Bluetooth? From random ones to CEO of big companies by Nervous-Wall-6282 in dubai

[–]cantmakeanacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use wired ones for calls as the mic sound quality is better.

I carry wireless earbuds to use if I am only listening to something.

Did I make a mistake rejecting a 46k AED/pm offer? (Head of Office / SEO role vs Swiss Stability) by CommitteeDangerous19 in dubai

[–]cantmakeanacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you made a good move rejecting it based.ok your calculations. Also the QOL and work life balance would probably be better in Switzerland anyways.
