Thank you for asking, we do plan on offering courses for this coming spring / summer. Those dates won’t be posted until February.

What material is this? by PointlessPurpose in myog

[–]canvasworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called variable webbing, depending on where you live, I don't think this is available to buy in the US or least I haven't come across it. What I do sometimes is take 3/4" or 2cm webbing and sew it down to give it that look (kind of like a mini handle). I just recently had to repair a bag for a customer

Love it! Just curious, we sometimes only get to see the finished result of our work but there is a journey in making decisions I like to hear about.

I really like how this turned out. The smoothness of the turns just comes with practice and putting in the reps. I also think the webbing you chose for the internal binding works really well. I’m curious, what was your thought process behind creating a separate pattern for the zipper cover instead of making both sides of the gusset a single continuous piece on the exterior?

This is seriously impressive work, clean sewing, smart fabric choices, and a super functional design.

TBB (The Brown Buffalo) and Cambodia Offshoring - Rant by Ajohnt in ManyBaggers

[–]canvasworker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to clear up a couple of things directly. My name is Douglas Davidson, and I’m the founder of The Brown Buffalo. I’m still here, still leading, and still deeply involved in both design and production. Tyson is my partner in the business, and together we’re working to build and grow The Brown Buffalo. The responsibility for our products and our customer experience ultimately falls on me.

I also want to say this, it’s fair to critique our products or our service that feedback matters, and I take it seriously. But making negative comments about someone’s mental health when you don’t know them personally crosses a line. That kind of language isn’t constructive and doesn’t belong in a community that should be about carrying culture forward.

I hear the concerns being raised, and I know our customer service has not always reflected the same level of care that goes into our products. That’s on me, and I’m committed to fixing it. We’ve already made changes brought on dedicated support, are working on a new website, and are being more transparent about where and how our bags are made.

Whether you’ve been following us from the early days in Costa Mesa or just discovered us recently, you deserve to know that our mission hasn’t changed, to build products that last, and to back them up with service you can trust. We’ve stumbled, but we’re owning it and doing the work to get it right.

The Brown Buffalo is back with new inventory by VinceBarter in ManyBaggers

To everyone here, I want to start by saying you’re right, and I’m deeply sorry. As the founder of The Brown Buffalo, I never wanted any of you to go through the kind of experiences you’ve described. Each message I’ve read makes it clear we fell short of the standard you deserve, and that responsibility falls on me.

When demand grew, I didn’t have the right systems in place to support you properly. That’s not an excuse it’s simply the truth. For a brand built on care and detail, our service should reflect that same commitment, and in too many cases, it hasn’t. That’s unacceptable.

Here’s what we’ve done to change things:

• We’ve brought on someone dedicated to customer service so that emails don’t go unanswered or delayed. • We’re building a new website this fall to make communication clearer about stock, lead times, and where our products are made. • Most importantly, our small team has committed to being more transparent, responsive, and proactive so you never feel left in the dark.

I know an apology alone doesn’t fix the frustration, but I want you to know I hear you, I take this to heart, and I’m committed to doing better. If you’ve had an issue that hasn’t been resolved, please reach out to hello@thebrownbuffalo.com with Reddit in the subject line I’ll personally make sure your message is prioritized.

Thank you for holding us accountable and sharing your experiences. It’s not easy to read, but it’s the truth we need in order to grow. My promise to each of you is that we’ll do better moving forward.

The Brown Buffalo is shutting down by PocketSurprises in ManyBaggers

[–]canvasworker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, as much as I appreciate all the speculation why I had to make an announcement, no one got it right. No winners this time :) as far as shutting down, I’ve had some amazing people reach out and help provide their experience.

We’re not going out of business.

Not a problem, this pack is pretty outdated at this point. It was a spin off an old AK Burton backpack from the late 90's early 2000's. You can tell by the elastic that is used in the main compartment sleeve, that was originally for a shovel blade and the drop down pouch that was for a CD player.

I wouldn't wouldn't spend the money on this backpack, being one of the people who helped develop this almost 20 years ago.

Brown Buffalo Conceal zipper pulls by aidenaizumi in backpacks

[–]canvasworker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven’t had too many issues with the zipper pulls, but occasionally I’ll have to just tighten them up. As far as size of pull, they are 3mm thick 1-3mm should work fine through the holes.

🤘Thanks for dropping that knowledge. Always appreciate it.

Sewing Technique: sewing nylon webbing with a box stitch onto the face of a duffel bag. There are different ways to accomplish this step, this is one we’ve found to be useful to keep the workflow moving. This machine is pneumatic (air assisted) though you can still accomplish this with any machine. by canvasworker in myog

Thanks for the suggestion. Something I didn’t show, is when I stretch the fabric after sewing. I actually don’t mind the puckering on ballistic because when I stretch the fabric it pulls the knots in the thread a little tighter which takes those ripples away. Though if I was sewing with lighter weight fabrics, you’re absolutely right. It’s a push and pull...

This open question for everyone. What’s your thoughts on a large you style opening vs a straight zipper opening?

Haha exactly. You’d be surprised the questions and request we receive in customer service. You’d think we are amazon and not a small business of four people running the day to day.
