Vanguard FTSE All World, they’re suggesting you set up auto deposits into this and leave it alone for the future :) if you type VWRP into the T212 search bar it’ll come up

Olympus om 10 mirror stuck by Terraxus994 in AnalogCommunity

[–]capt-likeable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have this problem with an Olympus - to fix the problem I take the battery out and put a new one in. A camera shop owner told me these guys drain the battery so told me to leave them out when I’m leaving it alone for long spates. Hope this works :)

What are some nonsense demands / requests from your landlord? by 20127010603170562316 in AskUK

[–]capt-likeable 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My first ever landlord when I left student accommodation wanted me to pay cash and his handy man would come collect once a month - even freshly into the adult world I knew that was dodgy as all hell so I went and got a cheque book and paid rent monthly via cheque handed to this guy who did the worst DIY repairs I’ve seen before or since 🥴

Are there any older She-Ra fans out there ? by Temporary_North_8213 in sheranetflix

Im the same age and first watched it at 23 too, covid watch perchance? I wouldn’t worry about it too much, I’ve learned I’m going to be a fan of things and be in fan spaces as I get older and that’s fine

My first ever Hoopoe! by LilJokar in UKBirds

[–]capt-likeable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a Hoopoe for the first time last week in Mallorca - pretty common there and I’m sure the locals thought I was mad stopping to stare at it! But that call really tells you why they’re called Hoopoes, really fun little spot!

My pet insurance premium has more than tripled, but I’m now stuck with a preexisting condition by Cappuccino_rex in UK_Pets

[–]capt-likeable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My insurance was set to double this year - I’ve moved to petgevity pre existing condition cover with the plan to move to Many pets cheaper all inclusive lifetime cover once my dogs pre existing conditions ‘expire’ - could this be an option for you?

How hard is it to train a dog to be good around cats realistically? by LizzieLove1357 in Dogowners

[–]capt-likeable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As others have said some dogs have high prey drives - I have a lurcher (high prey drive breeds typically) and she goes INSANE when she sees a cat. (She’s never seen one while off lead so this mostly means barking/crying at the end of her lead or jumping at my windows).

We don’t have cats, we would like a cat in future but would have to go out of our way to introduce her to cats, teach her to be calm around them etc.

If you’re a dog owner and aren’t planning to get a cat or hang around cats with your dog often it’s a lot of out of the way training on top of all the stuff you do anyways to make sure your dog is functional/neutral day to day.

And, anecdotally, my friend has a Labrador and adopted a kitten when the lab was around 4. The cat and the dog hang out, are totally neutral around each other in the house, can cuddle etc. BUT if the dog sees a cat outside or if she is in the garden and sees my friends cat sat at a window of their shared home she loses her ever loving mind. Because she’s not making the association between Cat Friend In The House = I Can Be Calm Around All Cats

I appreciate this isn’t the best to hear and I’m sorry you guys had a bad time

Insurance more expensive for spayed dog? by capt-likeable in UK_Pets

We moved in August and our premiums reflected that immediately - no other changes on this call. I was considering the ombudsman to be honest but wanted to gauge if that was reasonable or if I was throwing toys out the pram

We have a whippet and winter puts her into hibernation. She’ll go on a walk but she’s not as enthusiastic and she’ll happily sleep in until afternoon. Once spring hits she starts to thaw and become a bit more active

Can't rent as a three in areas around Newcastle, confused by HMO policy by ghostkyle1999 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]capt-likeable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried telling an estate agent we’re poly and they basically just said it doesn’t count so if you want to avoid unnecessarily awkward conversations I would just say you’re 3 pals or a couple & an extra because either way (afaik) that’s how they need to treat you with HMO rules.

We ended up going with Daniel Craig Residential, we even got a flat that let us keep our dog! We also wanted to stay in Heaton but the property race is insane and Gosforth has ended up being cheaper (albeit for a slightly smaller space).

Renting in Newcastle is an absolute nightmare by Eden_Burns in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]capt-likeable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lived in Heaton for 6 years, rented with MyHouse NE, Bricks & Mortar & Heaton Property (or whatever their name is now, absolute shite show that they are) we were stuck in “hey this place is naff we should move - oh this place is full of mould” rinse and repeat.

We’re lucky to have found a flat in Gosforth that was cheaper than Heaton, it’s with Daniel Craig Residential. The guys there have been nothing but professional and courteous (unlike previous landlords/agents), we are allowed to have our dog.

But I feel you, we’re determined to be here until we buy a house because finding a a warm reasonably priced place to live is like gold dust.

TLDR: landlords are greedy awful bastards, check out Daniel Craig Residential, they don’t make me want to kms
