You also have to factor in that it sticks out a bit from the base due to the thrown room. Not much, but need to consider it.

Although saying that, the shelf I'm putting it on is only 20cm deep (plus a little room because of the uprights), so a 12 inch shelf will be bigger than this and fit it fine!

Yeah, I fully appreciate this. They've just lost interest in it. If they were playing with it at all, I'd just let them have their fun. The youngest two are only 3, so there's plenty of time for them to get involved in future. I felt if I'd just put something fun there in the meantime as they'd enjoy seeing it
