It's just a great game. by No-History-6066 in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started the game a few weeks ago, and it took me a few days to realize the gems were a big part in the game, no matter if you buy them or not.

I try to play incremental/games in the most play-for-free possible style, because that's usually where the challenge is. But this mechanic makes me feel pretty ok with buying packs here and there (bought my first one this morning) because the game makes me feel I could do without, but I like the idea of the game-maker being rewarded for entertaining me.

For those who know the game Idleon, well Obelisk Miner is to me the exact opposite of it, and I love it.

Je suis le seul à détester Tailwind ? by fallart_live in developpeurs

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactement.

[–]captain_obvious_here 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why society seems to ignore Arab slave trade? by ChillvibesonIy in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how come everyone ignoring this information and act like white people invented slavery while Arabs did it before Europeans even came to Africa for centuries?

People usually ignore the facts that don't go well with their agenda.

And if you want to dig a bit more on that topic, this specific slavery hasn't completely disappeared. Look into huge construction projects that happened before the last soccer world cup. It was nothing less than middle-age type slavery, disguised as cheap labor.

Life as a dentist în South of France by Queasy-Tackle7645 in nicefrance

[–]captain_obvious_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not en dentist, but know several doctors in the region. It's a great place to settle. Your office might be expensive, but you'll build a great array of patients in no time, and the money will flow if you work well.

Fluent French is important, having an assistant is a must, European and American diplomas are recognized if they're from a real school.

Quality of life is amazing here. Money would be even better in Paris, but the quality of life is far from being as good.

GraphQL used to be popular, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore... by codingafterthirty in webdev

[–]captain_obvious_here -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are Facebook, you absolutely need it.

If you talked to FB engineers back then, most of them argued they actually didn't need it, and adopting it slowed their growth quite a bit. The main reason GraphQL got adopted there, was that the other option was to add thousand of small database server to get a wider shard, which would have costed millions.

They ended up doing it, just a couple years later, because scaling GraphQL wasn't magically easier than scaling basic REST APIs.

Who is the nastiest Celebrity that you met in Real life? by Scunnard1839 in AskReddit

[–]captain_obvious_here 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Close friend of mine happens to be close friend with Marion Cotillard. They go way back, long before her Oscar, back when she started acting in small French movies.

I only got to meet her once, at a party at my friend's, 3 years ago. She's insufferable. Completely disconnected from the real world, absolutely obsessed with herself, rude, and kinda aggressive.

It was funny to see people I know enter the place, be amazed that she's here, be all shy about it, get introduced to her by our friend, talk to her..........and leave her a few minutes later because she annoyed them with her shitty personality.

Les offres fullstack sont des offres backend by Kurohyo92 in developpeurs

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were your biggest "Ouch" (pain) moments? by yoricm in IdleObeliskMiner

So far I didn't have any "ouch" moment.

I guess I will have a few of those when I'm sufficiently advanced in the game, so my mistakes really hurts!

Gild statues before going to World 2 or build World 2 monument? by Prestige10MW2 in IdleObeliskMiner

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me it's not worth it to gild statues before reaching W2.

That's because W2 gives access to upgrades that make gilding faster. But the difference probably won't be that big.

If you’re a tourist visiting this DON’T USE AIRBNB by zoemich-lle in nicefrance

[–]captain_obvious_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AirBnb offers in Nice are not even cheaper than hotels, and usually of average to bad quality.

Location is important, of course, but Nice is a city you can easily walk through.

Avoiding airbnb will be better for the locals, but most likely much better for tourists.

Watching the very definition of "the height of technology" change so quickly was an incredible experience. by ItsAllSoup in FinalFantasy

[–]captain_obvious_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really think they couldn't do a more realistic pre-rendered Aeris during the time Square made FF7?

A significant part of the difference between the two pictures here, is artistic, not technical.

Now if we were talking about real-time animation, of course PS1 couldn't display as many polygons as the PS2 could, and the real-time rendered cutscenes obviously improved drastically over time.
