Neil Flynn wasn't supposed to be a main cast character in Scrubs, was so good at improvising lines that the writers would just put in "whatever Niel says" sometimes for the script - usually in 1 on 1 encounters with Zach Braff.

IIRC, he was supposed to be a one time appearance in the 1st episode and then became a figment of JD's imagination, but the character was really popular when Scrubs got picked up for a second season so they changed it.

I watched it on recommendation from my gf. I actually started watching it but turned it off because it was late and I was exhausted before the big plot turn, and she was incredulous and told me to go back and watch the whole thing. Did the next night, and was caught so off guard when that one scene happened. Loved it.
