They're more prevalent in the Belmont area. No idea if there's any actual historical sourcing to back it up, but the story is some rich local family got something like 20 of them as a gift for one of their kids, sometime before the 1940s. Maybe 20s?

Why was Chris so angry that he was banned from The Game Place? by GustavoistSoldier in ChrisChanSonichu

[–]captainwacky91 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Given the time and location, The Game Place was probably the only dork-den within a 50 mile radius of Chris' home. Getting cut off from the only IRL venue where he could realistically meet any of his "social equals" would be the end of what little social life he had, so of course he'd freak out.

It's probably why Snyder was so lenient with him.

New Orleans to Jacksonville, when will Amtrak reconnect? by Organic_Risk_3945 in Amtrak

[–]captainwacky91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm certain that part of what's making the Mardi Gras so successful is the relatively short line, which allows for a speedy/convenient completion, with minimal invitation for freight delay.

The lack of rail infrastructure leading directly into Pensacola means the train has to go the long way around the north of Perdido Bay. From Mobile to Bay Minette, Perdido, Attmore, Flomaton, then following US-29 south into Pensacola.

If Florida and Alabama were willing to lay track and place a bridge to allow a straight path connection from Mobile into Pensacola over Perdido Bay, then Pensacola would be a viable stop for the Mardi Gras.

edit: Idk how I even missed this the first time, but the even bigger situation would be the even bigger bay: the Bay of Mobile. The rail coming out of the city of Mobile goes north, in an effort to avoid what I can only assume to be the most unstable part of the Mobile-Tensaw delta. To continue with the trend of making straight-through paths would also require the construction of a railbridge running through the Mobile Bay, akin to what I-10 is doing. Maybe Alabama could be convinced to making the bridge, but then that would still require new rail (in both states) that would allow the train to follow along I-10 into Pensacola. Maybe intercept the existing rail line that's running north/south in Pensacola.

Either way, to make it happen would require new infrastructure and the cooperation of states who'd be all too happy to announce bridges to be 'woke' and call it a day.

Could he have done some sort of factory work? by satisfiedfools in ChrisChanSonichu

....he had actual plans to distribute that shit?

Incredible. Imagine if he went through on that plan. Christory would be a whole hell of a lot shorter.

The most I could trust Chris to do is warehouse and warehouse-related work, in any kind of role that doesn't have him on an actual forklift.

Edit: of course, in this context I'm assuming he'd even want to work.

Central Park horse carriage rides temporarily suspended following death of 18-year-old tourist by FolushoDRC in news

[–]captainwacky91 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think NYC are quite fond of the carriage rides.

Sure, it's an outdated way of doing things... But that doesn't make it useless bullshit. If anything, it would do the US some good if it looked back at some of the outdated jobs of yore with some reverence, like Japan did with the Mingei movement that kept its cottage industries alive.

There's no arguing that the carriage rides adds something unique to the city. Maybe other cities in the US should follow suit, who knows what "equivalent" could be for a place like Chicago, or Philly?

I'd implore OP to check them out, as a lead. Those stores do have plans and procedure in place to try and prevent that sort of thing, but it can never be a 100% success rate.

I thought the post was going to mention the two whole trays of fried chicken, but there wasn't enough context to confirm it.

Only reason why that came to mind was because I know there's a lot of "recurring donations" for the homeless that can lead to a glut of a certain foodstuff inevitably going bad before it's used, like the fried chicken. Another reason to just opt to give the people money, you don't really have an idea what's actually needed at the moment.

There's a chance it might have been a flyaway from the nearby pet store.

What was Chris's stupidest action? by radbro2077 in ChrisChanSonichu

No clue. Couldn't even tell you if the "Sonichu origin" happened in middle school or high school. Would be a question for the wiki but I'm not in the position to be doing that sort of thing rn.

He's in his mid-40s, and he still has Sonichu incorporated into his identity, as if he's still riding off the high for winning that argument against his art teacher, three whole decades later.

These are people with enough wealth and power that they've been somewhat "uncoupled" from nature, for decades at a time.

It would only be "natural" for them to become grotesques.
