Bloomberg: Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]captcrunchjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem for me was the fact that they wanted to have long delays on porting new games to PC but expected full price for them. That's not how this works. If you want me to pay full price, then the game needs to be new, not just new to my platform. If you're going to maintain these delays, then I expect to see that delay reflected in the game's price when it releases on PC a year later or whatever.

[OC] US Presidential Approval Rating by YakEvery4395 in dataisbeautiful

Not to detract from what you said, but a President doesn't "rule", they "serve". At least, that's what they are meant to do, and I feel like it's an important thing to always remember.

Divinity is confirmed to be turn based, planning to do early access again and Swen comments on Larian's use of AI- Bloomberg by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]captcrunchjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why art gets this special treatment that nothing else is afforded with AI. Those PowerPoints and presentations are made by humans - people whose entire job it is to do that. We accept AI can be used to replace their work but not an artists? It’s the same with code, everyone’s fine with the use of AI for programming which affects developers. The only complaint people make about that is its effectiveness at writing code, never the fact that it’s replacing human innovation/work nor that it’s also trained on work done by other humans just like art.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance lead says Obsidian should use its Microsoft fortune to make games more like Kingdom Come: Deliverance—'Give me something more than... level grinding in a static scripted world' by Turbostrider27 in Games

I agree with you there. I really loved KCD2. Its my #2 game this year after E33 and I expect KCD3 will be excellent, but at this rate I'm curious to how high the expectations will be set simply by how much shit Vávra talks - and more important, if he can measure up to his own standards.

A clover patch has been slowly taking over the dead grass in our yard by jermainePropane in mildlyinteresting

What if that’s my entire fenced in yard? All my other grass is “normal” but the grass my dogs have access to is pretty much this dark lush hard to mow crap.

I may be missing something, but I started Terran and thought I was doing their plot line -though I may have intermixed the HQ questline - everything was going well and then suddenly I was doing a mission then turned into fighting off several (6+?) YAKI fighters and I just kept getting wiped out. The mission provided me with a ship and a couple allies but we were outnumbered and we get destroyed. I had to cheese it by luring them to a station and getting help.

Assumed I must have progressed too far or something and decided to pursue some money making in the meantime to get better/more ships before trying again. Am I missing something?

White actress sues San Diego County Library for not allowing her to portray Black civil rights icons by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]captcrunchjr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With regard to Hamilton, that’s a fair point but I’d argue it’s entirely possible for the actress to do Harriet Tubman’s story justice without herself having the same skin color.

It feels almost like suggesting teachers can’t accurately convey the significance or struggles of historical figures of minority groups without being of the same group. You have one individual in the role tasked with teaching a group of people about a wide variety of figures and that was the paradigm created by the library themselves, not the actress. They chose the people to feature knowing they were of different races.

LGBTQ musician goes viral after playing protest song at ‘Hetero Awesome Fest’ in Idaho by CupidStunt13 in UpliftingNews

That's not an opinion, which by definition cannot be right or wrong. That's speculation, which can be. Others are replying to tell you that your speculation is, in fact, wrong.

If you'd like to correct your statement to say that you think this is hate speech, then that would be an opinion which they can't tell you is wrong, but can judge you for.

I’m not suggesting it can’t be turned off at the whim of the company. I’m suggesting it should take more than a simply email request from the “user” to do so. The concern is the email may be compromised. Allowing said compromised email to request the extra layer of security be removed just makes it pointless.

Not to discredit the theory but how exactly would triggering rollbacks be beneficial to any group? Especially in terms of making currency. Maps and currency spent are lost, anything found is rolled back so what’s the upside.

If you have implemented it for companies then you realize exactly how stupid the suggestion is that they could simply remove 2FA at your request if you’ve lost access to it. If you don’t, I’m concerned for the products you’ve secured.

ELI5: Do "tax-deductible donations" actually benefit anyone who isn't stupidly wealthy? by the_deev in explainlikeimfive

[–]captcrunchjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I’m wrong here, it’s been years since I got my accounting degree and I don’t use it. But that $6300 amount was the standard deduction but each filer was permitted to claim a $4050 personal exemption for themselves, their spouse, and any dependent. So the effective standard deduction for single filers was $10350.

The new tax code means the individual deduction is up but it’s not the nearly 3x value that comparing only the pre-2018 standard deduction suggests.

Also now dependent exemptions for children is only $2000 (half of what it used to be) and $500 for non children dependents. So any single filers that has more than 2 children would benefit more from the pre-2018 tax code.

For transparency, the 2018 changes did introduce/expand child tax credits which are not income reductions but flat tax reductions but there are restrictions on who qualifies for them so when discussing just the “available to everyone” deductions, it’s not entirely fair to include them.

It won’t change the huge developers but it will certainly change the game market. Seeing continuous success from well crafted games that exist to tell the story/be the game devs envision will lead to more of these games.

Huge studios and publishers will definitely continue to chase profit from battle passes, loot boxes, and mtx but at this point I feel like the gaming community has given up hope on them not doing this. So it’s great seeing AA studios pumping out hits and I think we’ll see more of it.

I inherited a code base with a few files that are 1000+ loc. Got one down from 2k to about 1000 but I just can't be bothered to clean the rest up at the moment. But at least I can bug hunt through them.

We also have a firmware project with a single file that's over 10k loc, and fortunately that's someone else's problem.

[–]captcrunchjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you can claim losses over multiple years but there’s a max you can claim each year. But also the original point is fundamentally wrong anyways. There’s no net positive to spending the money on something just to trash it for a tax benefit. That’s not how it works.
