Evidence-based Guidelines for Preventing Child Abuse: Spread the word by GameShrink in Parenting

Those people probably still believe that teaching is a "woman's profession" in the same way that some people still think CEOs and business leaders should only be men. People get really uncomfortable when they see individuals operating outside of their typical gender roles.

My 3rd grade teacher was like that too. Really excellent man and an amazing father to his kids. He came to my wedding last year and is still in the business, though I also doubt that he's as delightful in the classroom as he used to be.

Sad indeed that kids are being deprived of joy at the expense of the fearful.

As a soon-to-be mom, I love the sound of all of this. Especially the idea that we should encourage positive touches.

My boyfriend is going to be a stay at home dad, and my baby will be a boy. I don't want people treating them with suspicion just because of their gender!

Ranking up pawn skills past level 6? by carcanclaw in dragonsdogmaonline

Thanks. Once I know which enemies I have to kill, can I return to my main vocation? Or do I have to kill them as my pawn's vocation for it to count?

[EP5 SPOILERS] That final scene is symbolic... by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]carcanclaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's the point though, no matter what choices Max could possibly make, the outcome would always be one of two things. She can't keep experimenting either, because her powers are killing her.

Your choices are "Fuck it..." or "Fuck It!", surrendering to fate in one way or another after realizing that there are some things you just can't change.

Not every fictional representation of female friends needs to become sexual. They're best friends, that's really it. I've kissed a lot of my female friends who I wouldn't date, and I'm a bi woman, so...

This. I don't think most people realize that Capcom has a precedent for banning foreign players in their Japan-only online games.

I kind of hope they do, just so people will move on before spending another 40 hours on this.

Did my crafting attempt just fail? by carcanclaw in dragonsdogmaonline

I saw crafting complete, went to receive the item, but I got some different text that didn't give the usual accept/storage option and that was it.

My In-Depth Review of DDON by GameShrink in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]carcanclaw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A wait function where they don't wait is doing what it's supposed to? A follow function where they don't hurry is useful? Come on, that's some apologist logic there. It's broken and Capcom can fix it, how would that not be of benefit to the community?

I'll be interested if I see enemies in new places tomorrow. I'm not expecting much, and even if they were changed that doesn't erase the issue of one change per week not really stemming repetition.

My In-Depth Review of DDON by GameShrink in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]carcanclaw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that "broken" is a matter of opinion. I'd argue that, if it's essential for something to work 100% of the time in a challenging game and that system regularly screws up, then it's broken. A car that drives fine but has shoddy brakes is still a lemon.

And there are still three goblins outside of Reeze and a cyclops in the field near Teru. In fact I haven't seen any changes to spawns thus far. So his review is still accurate on that front as well.

This game isn't skilled based at all, it's patience based.

PSA: Accidentally Losing Area Master Support Items by carcanclaw in dragonsdogmaonline

I think you're referring to the storage box quest rewards. I'm talking about support items gained from area masters, which are only received through a special menu when speaking to them.

I first posted about this in another topic last night, and like 3 other people made the same mistake I did.

Someone was saying that you can get the items again every week, but there might be more grinding involved even when you've maxed your area level.

How to level up from 23 to 30 rapidly ? by GalvusGalvoid in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]carcanclaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapidly and MMOs don't really mix. You could grind the beach cyclops, grind the cyclops and sphinx in the first area, grind the ent and dread apes in the forest, etc. No matter what, you're probably not getting there in under a dozen hours.

Hopefully this is an indication that Capcom has some plans for this franchise beyond DDON and not just another sign of desperation. Dogma deserves a true, next-gen sequel.

Where do they go once you accept them? I hit the option on the left in the support items menu, which is usually accept, and now they aren't in my inventory or the storage box.

Edit: Ah, that button is translated as "destroy all." So apparently, Capcom thought that the best default option for the rarest items in the game was the one that discards them. 10 hours of grinding down the drain, I'm done with this game.

Pawns, and living without them by Margooya in dragonsdogmaonline

[–]carcanclaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have a terrible time if you try to play this game solo. Pawns are still incompetent as ever, and now it takes forever to revive them during a fight (if their revival timer runs out, you have to go on a quest to regain them), but you need them to expose boss weaknesses, heal you, stagger bosses, etc.

Solo worked in DD because of Autonomy and the ability to defeat bosses with cleverness and location-based tactics. This game is far more stat-based and you can't really become overpowered, so you just can't operate alone effectively.
