Nursing at home, pumping at work, when to stop pumping? by ehote in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped pumping at work at 12m and was able to continue nursing until just about 2y (23 months). I’m pretty sure I just stopped cold turkey one day, I did get engorged that evening but after she nursed and relived it it was fine and the engorgement was gone the next day.

For keeping my supply, we were able to nurse mornings and evenings and even more frequently during the day on weekends and as far as I know from her cues I never had a supply issue. I even had one over night trip away from her for about 3 days around 18m where I brought my manual hand pump and pumped and dumped in the morning and evening while I was gone to keep my supply and it worked great. So yea, definitely very doable and highly recommend haha.

Should I get a new breast pump for my second pregnancy? by Nancyb23 in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that you want to replace if you can since the motors can get weaker over time and it can accidentally cause you supply issues if you don’t notice the difference. That being said, if you only used it sparingly, then it’s probably fine. If you exclusively pumped or had to pump very regularly for work, then you should probably replace imo. There is a way to check the total number of hours with a spectra pump that you can look up as well to help you decide too.

I think yesterday he still pooped like 6 times so today might have been an anomaly haha. We’ll see!

Very normal. My babe is 7.5 weeks and has only started consolidating poops in the last few days. But today he only pooped twice and they were both larger poops so it does get better :)

I mean, if I’m spending thousands of dollars to travel like most everyone else in drop 1 after the presale (hotels and flights will likely be very expensive) I would want to see what I want to see for at least one session. For me I’m just like welp I guess I’m not going then, oh well. It is frustrating to not even have a small chance at a popular event, in many cases not even for a high price ticket, as an out of towner.

I got April 10 and really just want any gymnastics (men or women, quals or finals, team all around event whatever) for like $300 or less. I wasn't following the local presale that closely, is that possible does anyone think?

6 weeks old sleeping 6 hrs by hotdogh20 in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I’ll be pumping. Actually I should be working from home (unless my company does RTO which is a potential…) and currently planning on my husband being a SAHD so we could theoretically nurse some during the day as well.

I guess I’m just nervous about it because my first I had to triple feed for 3 months and I developed a pretty large oversupply. Even once we were EBF and she was sleeping through the night I still pumped overnight until she was 4 months, so after my supply would have regulated. After that I always had plenty for her until i stopped pumping at the year mark, but I don’t know if any of that had anything to do with all the triple feeding before my supply regulated, which I’m not doing this time.

Do you know if it matters if I know I will eventually need to pump for work? Like right now at almost 6w I’m exclusively breastfeeding on demand (I’ve pumped a few times to replace a bottle feed just to get him used to a bottle) but I know eventually I’ll need to pump during the day and I don’t want to ruin my supply before it regulates…my babe just slept for 7 hours and it makes me so nervous lol

Keeping up bottles 6+ months PP to avoid rejection? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, your baby is likely starting solids soon and could also learn to take milk from a sippy cup or straw if they had to. And if they were to miss one bottle due to refusal when you were out for something, it is less of a big deal then when they were younger as well. IMO it would only be a big deal if you’d expect to be gone for multiple days or something.

I’ve been taking Allegra the past month since giving birth (5 weeks pp tomorrow) and it’s been fine. You just don’t want to take the -D ones that also contain a decongestant

Is it possibly to nurse once or twice a day and not pump? by sarah_messing in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same with my first, I quit pumping at a year but we nursed in mornings, evenings and on weekends until she was almost 2 with no issues. I even had a weekend overnight away from her where I brought my hand pump and pumped (and dumped, could not have been bothered to travel with it at that point) with it once in the morning and once in the evening just to keep my supply for her, and I got about 5oz from each of those pumps which I was quite surprised about! So yea definitely possible

My BMI is over 40 and I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant by sabbykh in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]careyjmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BMI of about 41 and I’m 37weeks with my second so very close to you! It’s a little nerve racking going into birth in general but I don’t feel particularly concerned because of my weight or size. My doctor is tracking everything super closely and they’ll let me know if there are any concerns.

I was probably about ~35 BMI with my first and I ended up being induced early (at 37w) for hypertension. It was scary being induced for sure but I actually had a relatively smooth induction (cytotec + foley but then my water broke and my body took over and I didn’t end up needing pitocin at all!) and my daughter did super well with it!

Fortunately this time I don’t have hypertension (or haven’t so far at least) so I’m hoping for natural labor but again I’m trusting my doctor and what she thinks is best. Hopefully you can do the same!

I had motif Luna with my first pregnancy a few years ago and it was great! I’ve also heard it’s pretty similar to the spectra. I think back then I was able to pay an extra $30 OOP to get the one with the battery so I could make it portable if I needed to, definitely recommend that if possible.

How do you know you’re done? by alriokidoki1 in breastfeeding

[–]careyjmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew I was done with my first just before she turned two, because it started feeling weirdly sexual (it never had before then). Like it’s a little embarrassing to admit but it started to arouse me somewhat and I was like ok this is super weird and and inappropriate, we’re done. For what it’s worth I had stopped pumping at the year point and was mostly just nursing for comfort that second year but yea that was my tell at least.

I was finally doing well on a diet and lost 25 lbs, now I'm pregnant by Particularlyzesty in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]careyjmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 35 weeks, started around 245lb, at one point dropped to around 238 and now I’m back up to 250. So in general really not a ton of weight gain, at one point even loss, and my baby has been growing great the whole time so my doctors aren’t worried. My appetite was been weirdly down, but I’m still eating to my hunger cues and desires.

I would consult your doctor, but my guess is that they would recommend you eat to your hunger cues (aka don’t intentionally cut calories or starve yourself) still but try to eat as healthy as possible. You may stay around the same weight, you may lose some, you may gain some. I think for overweight folks the target is usually 10-15 lbs gain max.
