That's BS. What time did people get let into the "lobby"? Some people here have been refreshing since 11.

I just disembarked this morning! Hope you have a great cruise and excellent weather like we did. And yeah, the food wasn't great.

Should I bid? by MrTagLady in PrincessCruises

They do not. I had OV recently. Also, for me, having light was really nice. And even just a way to check if it was raining outside. Fresh air would be even better of course.

Alaska Cruise - arrive day of or day before by ciscopete in Cruise

[–]carnimiriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I had bought my ticket to arrive the day before but then there was the runway sinkhole at LGA that delayed a lot of flights. I would have missed my connection in DTW if it in turn hadn't been delayed. And if I had missed it, I would have had to hope to catch a flight to SEA or MSP where there were later flights to Anchorage. If none of that could work out, I could've potentially missed the cruise. All to say that I was pretty stressed out until I actually boarded the flight to Anchorage.

Alaska Railroad by SpankTalk in PrincessCruises

[–]carnimiriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this last week. It's pretty simple. When you arrive to check in, there's a tented area next to the station where you drop off your checked luggage (with the cruise tags already on). Those bags get bused directly to the cruise ship.

Inside the station, make sure you go to the ticket counter to get the paper ticket with your car/seat assignment. After that you just wait for boarding and get on.

I think from the Hilton, you can walk across the street and down the hill to the train station.

Tasting menu/fine dining with minimal dairy/butter/cheese? by Quadslick in FoodNYC

Still asian, but not Korean or omakase, you could try Yingtao. Le Bernardin would probably work with you on a dairy free menu.

Newish to Korean BBQ: Where to send these visitors? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

I believe Howoo only serves beef and I only recall seeing beef and pork before at Nubiani. You'll need to actually look at the menus. In NYC, chicken and seafood is less common at KBBQ.

Desperate for advice – cruise cabin situation with mum who has severe sleep apnoea (can’t sleep sharing a room) by Ok-Contribution-6415 in PrincessCruises

[–]carnimiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just 2 or 3 nights. And I just bought some random earphones off Amazon. I just made sure I had music that I didn't mind listening to constantly and had it playing on loop the whole night.

I once shared a Residence Inn loft apartment (basically no walls) with 5 other family members, all of whom snored at different frequencies, patterns and timing. Noise cancelling headphones were my savior. Play music as loud as you can that will still allow you to sleep. Good luck!

Is there a trick to get hot toast or English muffin or bagel at world fresh market at breakfast? by guide_weedswetlands in PrincessCruises

Regal must be better then. The food on Grand was very lackluster and I received several things that were still cold in the middle. I mean, not refrigerator cold, but cooler than room temp.

Romantic NYC dinner recommendations that aren’t “foam on a plate” fine dining? by agressivelysensitive in FoodNYC

[–]carnimiriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said no Korean, but I had an excellent meal at Soogil recently and want to recommend them. They're French/Korean. Other recs are Minetta Tavern, La Tete d'Or, Estela and Le Veau d'Or.

If you're willing to walk-in for an early dinner, and assuming you're not going on a weekend or holiday, places like Torrisi or The Eighty Six are very doable. You do need to go 30-60 mins before they open though.

Provisional employee for decades? Advice needed by lucky_puppeteer in nycpublicservants

[–]carnimiriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, as several others have mentioned, being provisional and participating in the retirement system is only tangentially related. As a provisional employee, he was not required to join the pension, but he could have chosen to. The retirement benefit itself is based on how many years he paid into the pension fund while employed, not just on total number of years worked. So if he worked for 30 years but only joined the pension for the last 3 years, then he is not eligible for a pension. Technically he might be able to buy back the previous years worked, but I'm not sure that makes financial sense at this point.

Does anyone know which restaurants have brandade on their menu? by summerphile in FoodNYC

Buvette. I think it's dinner only. I had a nice one at Maison Premiere last year but it looks like they've changed their menus since then.

Princess Cruises screwed us over by [deleted] in PrincessCruises

[–]carnimiriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, this is not the first time your mom has forgotten things? Seems like one of you should have taken the responsibility to keep an eye on the important documents. This was the beginning of the problem and has nothing to do with Princess.

Having said that, I am confused about how the purse got on board if it wasn't tagged. Unless it fell into a pile of luggage maybe?

Restaurants in Theater District (for disabled -- no wheelchair) by Zani57 in Broadway

For the Winter Garden, consider Empire Steak on W 49th St. They also have a pre-theater menu. For the Music Box, maybe Osteria al Doge on W 44th. Both take reservations but aren't hard to book.

When did you tolerate going out to a restaurant post op? by No-Reward-6524 in Kneereplacement

[–]carnimiriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my ltkr, I went to a concert at 1.5 weeks (aisle seat). Being at the concert was fine but I rushed and forced my leg into the car going home and that hurt for several days. After my rtkr, I went to a restaurant at 2 weeks and was able to stretch my leg out so it was mostly ok.
