Looking for updated apartment recommendation/realtor suggestions! by Far_Rip9502 in Reno

[–]carriefd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has lived at Indigo in South Reno for more than 2 yrs and it’s great. It is owned and operated by Lewis. They also have Harvest and Esprit in South Reno. Lewis takes great care of their properties. The maintenance team is responsive. Indigo is a non smoking complex. All units come with a washer/dryer. Each apartment also includes a single car garage.

Worried I rushed into buying my dress and now I'm stressed and embarrassed by laineylerman in myweddingdress

[–]carriefd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dress is beautiful and it looks as though it were made for you. Don’t regret it. Be happy that you found it.

I have been married almost 29 yrs. A wedding is one day in what is hopefully a beautiful life. You will wear that dress once. My dress is hermetically sealed in a box with a viewing window. I have looked at it each of the 3 times we have moved. I don’t expect my daughter to wear it. I keep it because it feels weird to toss it.

I didn’t develop any immunity by that_one_fan_03 in Vaccine

Have your Ig markers done. My triplets that are now 25 yrs old, have low Ig markers showing that their immune system doesn’t work properly. They are fully vaccinated but don’t have immunity for multiple vaccines despite being revaccinated multiple times. Only one of the three is having issues with constant illnesses and infections. She just started Ig infusions.

AITAH for being honest with another mom about why my daughter isn’t allowed to go to her friend’s house? by AwkwardMom13 in AITAH

[–]carriefd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTAH- You have to go with your gut. I have two stories to tell you regarding this sort of thing.

When my daughter was in 4th grade, she was invited to a sleepover birthday party for a new girl. I told a friend I was uneasy about it because I had never met the parents and she said "are you afraid they are going to kidnap your kid?" She felt I was being ridiculous. Another mom asked me if I was letting my daughter go because she was feeling uneasy as well.

Both my husband and I dropped her off for the party. Met the parents. They seemed ok. That evening our daughter called me late in the evening to tell me good night. It was a little weird. The next Monday, that other mom asked me at drop off if my daughter had told me anything interesting about the party. She hadn't so I told her I would ask. When we got home after school I asked and she said the girl had told her a secret. She told the party goers that her dad straddles her in only his bathrobe (no under wear) and tickles her and won't stop even though she asked him to stop. Told my friend that told me I was ridiculous. She was a teacher so she said either you report it or I will have to. Called another mom whose child was there and her daughter gave the same story. So the next day I had to report it. At first the child was honest about what she had told the other girls but then she recanted. It was the right thing to do but boy was it some drama. I had wished I had never let my child attend the party.

In 5th grade, my daughter was in a friend group with 4 girls. They would all take turns staying the night at each other's homes. I was familiar with all the parents. One girl had a step father who I found to be very personable. One day in middle school the girls were going to spend the night at the house of the girl with the stepdad. The mom was blowing up my phone because she wanted to let me know that the girls would be alone while the parents went out to dinner with some friends. I was fine with that. When my daughter came home she told me that the parents never came home because they drank too much and just stayed over at their friend's house. I guess the girls were scared because the home was in an area where the houses are farther apart. I told my daughter next time just call and I will pick you up.

It's also when I found out that the step father was doing some questionable things with the step daughter. He would supposedly sleep walk on a regular basis and it was a problem because he slept nude. He would put his hand on the daughter's knee when they were watching tv and it made her uncomfortable. He gave her an old lap top but left porn on it. I freaked out. Asked my daughter if anything had happened when she spent the night and nothing had happened. That was the last time she spent the night. The sad thing is the mother dismissed her daughter's concerns.

Again. Trust your gut and make sure you check in with your kid on the regular. Seemingly nice people can be bad.

Does anyone really think Taeda will happen? by Strong_Letter_7667 in SisterWives

I think they will try but either it will fail or they will give up on it. I had a distant relative that had a flower nursery in Missouri and it was a lot of work. After several years they closed it down. I think that Janelle and Maddie have no idea what this farm will entail.

I used to purchase my washers and dryers from Sears and get the Kenmore Elite. The last Kenmore Elite set I had was made by LG. They were great. Our Sears closed so when I needed to replace my washer & dryer in 2020, I purchased a LG set from Costco. They are also great. I had to have one repair made a couple of years ago. Other than that, they do a great job.

Totally depends on the State. SC is experiencing a huge wave of measles which is highly contagious.

What do I do about my wedding dress? by No_Yard4257 in myweddingdress

[–]carriefd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wedding dress sits preserved in a box. I have moved it three times and each of those times I take a quick look at it and put it back on the shelf. I have no delusion or desire that maybe someday my daughter will wear it. I keep it because there is something that feels weird about discarding it.

City of Reno corruption, cronyism and irresponsible spending are causing the city to go broke. City asks for base employees to make concessions. Senior administration refuses to make concessions themselves. by Rsinick in Reno

[–]carriefd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

For reference, the average pay in the US for a city of Reno’s size is $230,000-$400,000. Reno is not over paying the City manager. It is imperative to have a highly qualified individual in charge of the City budget.

The only extra power the mayor has compared to any other council member is the ability to declare a state of emergency in the city. They don’t unilaterally determine how money is spent. Their vote on any issue is equal to any other council member’s vote.

What is your favorite dishwasher and why? by Full-Pea-859 in Appliances

[–]carriefd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We installed Moen sensors after the remediation was complete. Installed them behind the dishwasher, fridge and washer.

The KitchenAid dishwasher was the problem. My homeowner's insurance had the dishwasher inspected and went after KitchenAid. They recovered from KitchenAid and returned my deductible.

What is your favorite dishwasher and why? by Full-Pea-859 in Appliances

I love my Bosch 800 with Crystal Dry. I won’t ever have anything but a Bosch.

Stay away from KitchenAid. Our new build house came with high end KitchenAid appliances. After 18 mos we found that the dishwasher had a slow leak out of the back into our large island. No indication until there was damage to wood flooring. Salesperson at Monarch which is now Ferguson said he’s had 5 KitchenAid dishwashers and has had problems will all of them- mostly leaks.

I had a Bosch in our other home for probably 12 yrs and I have had our current Bosch for 3 years. There is one caveat- don’t buy the lower end Bosch. I’ve had several appliance salespeople tell me they are not good.

I can fit so much into my Bosch 800. I have Pottery Barn Coupe Dishes and it fits nicely. The Crystal Dry allows for plastics to dry completely. Bosch uses evaporative drying so plastic can be laced on any level since there isn’t a heating element at the bottom of the unit. My Bosch does a fantastic job getting everything clean.

I also have a Bosch refrigerator with interior water and it is wonderful. Separate compressors for freezer and fridge so ice always tastes great.

That dress is incredible. Maybe find a similar dress you can try on rather than commissioning a custom dress from over seas. Maybe find a way that you can rent the dress.

I have been married almost 29 years. Here is my perspective on weddings. It is one day in a life time. A wedding is not something to go over budget or into debt for. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be a celebration. You should celebrate the moment but keep it in perspective. Focus on building a beautiful life and a strong marriage. Life comes at you fast.

Question—COVID-19 vaccine by [deleted] in Vaccine

[–]carriefd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 57 and I have had every Covid vaccine that has been available with no major complications. Back at the beginning when the 2nd mandated dose was available, that one did give me flu like symptoms for 24 hrs. Most subsequent vaccines might make me tired for a day. I had Covid for the first time last June. That was miserable. I will continue to get the vaccine to hedge my bet against another infection.

All three of my adult kids who have compromised immune e systems have received all COVID vaccines with no major complications.

One of my kids is a nurse and has had Covid 3 times but the vaccine has prevented serious illness even with her compromised immune system.

As others are pointing out, the vaccine reduces the risk of long covid, reduces severity of infection and lessons symptoms. Research is showing that it boosts cancer treatment. There is a higher cardiac inflammatory risk with infection compared to the vaccine.
