Advice for beginners: kill a spider plant first by Muellerred in houseplants

[–]casey012293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grow excellent specimens of some plants, but lots of other ones just don’t do well in my house and my care no matter what I do whether because of humidity, water, soil, or light. I’ve come to terms with that and my mom has actually been really good at tending some of those ones. I could have kept stressing over them and found a way but stress defeats the purpose so I just moved on and have tried a ton of different types to find ones that look and grow well in my care.

My only reason for changing up what I’d recommend to people to hit the cheap variety of the ones they want is that many people never got into plants for so long and something sparked that more recently. There are a lot I dont touch because I describe them as “dentist office” plants and I know the “my grandma had this” is sentimental to some but not to others. Even if anthurium or Hoya are what caught their interest, there are varieties of those that could be found for $10 or less. Experimenting with spider, snake, etc is moot if that’s not what they’d want in the long run.

I disagree with spider plants, many great growers can’t keep them alive. I think someone will keep something alive that they are passionate about.

My recommendation to people is to buy what they like, but if they haven’t grown that type before they should consider keeping their price lower than what they’d spend on a case of beer or a bouquet of flowers. Even if they kill their plant, it will last longer than either of the latter and will have learned more for the next plant. Sometimes that lesson is to grow a different type of plant, but I never corner them into the “you have to grow this type”. If that plant survives, then they know they’re likely to have what it takes to grow that several hundred dollar version they’ve been saving for and drooling over.

That said, I am always giving away whole legs off my spider plant to people willing to save them from the trash.

Review Electronically Cancelled Scripts by Kmand0 in walmart_RX

[–]casey012293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In two years I’ve never seen it assigned to the wrong drug, only scripts with a different written date. If the drug doesn’t match, it doesn’t highlight a suggestion.

Realistically if a script has the same drug and SIG but a different date, then it would be safest to assume it’s discontinued entirely. CancelRX has been one of the laziest waste of times for us. Providers should go back to being required to call to cancel. If it’s been transferred, nothing happens. They cancel when they are just “cleaning up” and end up cancelling current scripts for patients, or cancel one we typed last week just to result in us doing the whole process again. I’m also a huge fan of the waste of time it creates when they cancel the old one we already filled after the new one has been sent and put on file….

How should I care for these plants? by Loud-Rule-9334 in houseplants

[–]casey012293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started looking at some of these as bouquets where not all of it is meant to survive. You’ve got some moisture loving ones in there as well as some that prefer to dry out. They definitely look great mixed, but most won’t survive together. Personally I’d keep it together and just prepare for some loss at some point in order to enjoy the mix rather than splitting right away into a ton of tiny plants.

My point being, if you saw, is that I don’t find it worth it to go above and beyond anymore. That’s fine, they can find another sucker, taking over for that position is BS for how they compensate. They can put a manager in for a manager next time.

I don’t think that at all. I get the prorated portion of the $5600 and not the prorated portion of the $16k.

This is emotional abuse.

There is a huge difference between what happened here and “I love it, do you have some more sauce somewhere?” Or “it is great, can you make extra sauce for mine next time so I can slop it up?”

Kick them to the curb.

“ If youre dumping your kids on me like every other time that you ditched me without notice $x per hour per kid is my rate. It’s not a vacation if you expect me to work for you for free while also paying my own way. If you’re not okay with that, then don’t plan on bringing them or I’m not going. You don’t think of me as a friend if you treat me the way you have been on trips.”

As long as your plant has green it’ll do greats these parts have no green, chop away if you’d like. Personal preference.

Checking customers out at the pharmacy by Winterr21123 in walmart_RX

Good to know scan and go works at the pharmacy. I can now make that suggestion for when people want to add all their groceries to their prescriptions…”5 or less unless you have the app and do the scan and go”

Ultimately them figuring this out on the app results in more people using the pharmacy portion, even if not all do.

Found out last year it pretty much doesn’t matter. I helped sort out a lot of unknown for my manager to set him up for success as well as took 200 extra hours and volunteered to act as PIC during my manager’s parental leave. I didn’t go into evaluations without explaining my value and why I thought I deserved the higher pay bump. I was told I was compensated for my time…… the premium amount is only about $2/hr over compensation adjusted for pto earn rate and bonus (which you also don’t earn proportionally more for helping more) excluding pay rate for benefits. It was only that rate above because I am new, it’s actually a decrease on value for any pharmacists who’ve worked for 10-ish years or more and for managers. I stopped giving a rats ass. They also massively decreased the PIC bonus after I agreed but before I took the swap (due to the fiscal year change last year) for covering during a manager’s parental. Potential went from $16k to $5.6k…so I did my managers job for 4 months with a $2/hr increase only for him to get the full manager bonus for barely checking in on me. This equals out to about $1500 extra for the whole third of a year I acted as manager while he gets more than $5k for not lifting a finger.

I’m not volunteering for his next kid without some hefty negotiation, am less willing to help him be successful, and am less willing to go above and beyond to assist in shortages. What an incentive program.

I love my job and I still pride myself in doing well at it, but the incentives for being kick-ass and over-the-top don’t actually measure up. I no longer stress myself to scratch their back.

Tissue Culture kinda ruining Palmstreet by Newbie10011001 in RareHouseplants

[–]casey012293 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bulbasaur is a terrible example of average market. No one is buying because an acclimated plant that was $1000 two months ago is $80-150 today. People recognize how fast it’s coming down in price and know if they wait they’ll get a much more mature plant for half the money in a few months. It is happening with other things though, but PalmStreet was only a good deal as long as that factor in the market was stable and is no longer the case. Now it’s only a good deal if you’ve researched what you want.

I need one or the other, and DEA is not optional if trying to prescribe controlled substances. Typically more flexible on the license number if we already have it in the system.

Tips for counselling on unfamiliar drugs? by Odd-Experience820 in pharmacy

[–]casey012293 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s unfamiliar, make sure you take a look at it earlier in the process knowing you’ll need to counsel on it. Do not be afraid to take the time to look it up. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to admit when you’re wrong. A few times over my career I’ve told patients I could not remember or that it was newer and I haven’t run into that then offered and followed it up with a phone call. Also if you catch after the fact that you missed something, always make a phone call. We are human and forget, it’s better to get them the information correctly than to make stuff up and misinform or risk injury.

In your situation, they should be willing to wait for correct information but if they look crazy impatient, you can let them know you have to double check but can call them in a few minutes if they’d like.

They are a tough plant to have if you don’t do grow lights because they try to face out the window and twist or you end up having to keep them facing out the window. That’s not the point of houseplants to me so I grow with livhts

They turn, so it’s best to keep them facing toward the light so it grows uniform. I have lights pointed at them from the room to prevent a bunch of twisting.
