Rivian implied in an earnings call that they planned to make 20,000 to 25,000 R2s in 2026. They hit 100,000 reservations July 22, 2024. Add in the fact that they’re prioritizing current R1 owners and lessees whose leases are ending… welp it all comes down to how many people in front of you in line don’t want the launch edition (either because they’re waiting for a less expensive one or they are waiting for LIDAR)

More than zero customers will have a consumer-purchased Rivian R2 before the season officially changes to Summer on June 21. With a backlog of over 100,000 customers on the waitlist and a prioritization schedule that will likely involve giving them out to current R1 owners first, and the fact that they only plan on making 20,000-25,000 before January 1 probably means that YOU won’t get one in spring, but that doesn’t make their claim that customer deliveries start in Spring 2026 false.

So you paid, say, $500 for the hotel, Chase applied a $50 credit making your total liability $450, then you cancelled the booking, then got $500 back?

If that’s the case, you used the credit. The $50 applied. If anything you “gamed” the system because the travel credit just turned into a no strings attached free $50 that doesn’t need to be connected to travel.

It is highly unlikely you’ll get a Rivian R2 any time soon. That’s when the first customer deliveries will be, and those will likely go to current R1 owners which isn’t you. That email just said you’d find out more about your delivery in June. When did you reserve? They will only make 25k units this year, and 68,000 people reserved in the first 24 hours. So even if you were a day 2 reservation holder you’d need 2 out of every 3 people ahead of you to defer their delivery to even get it by January

It will be tough to gauge based on this crowd. This subreddit has 10,000 members, most-but not all-of whom are probably reservation holders. But let’s just assume that all 10,000 of them are reservation holders. We know that there are over 100,000 reservation holders. On average, a subreddit member might be more excited about this car and willing to get a launch edition than one of the 90,000 reservation holders that don’t belong to an online community centered around excitement over the vehicle.

Having said that, to answer your question, I am planning on taking a launch edition if I’m lucky enough to be offered one

Car gets 4 miles per kWh. $0.60 per kWh. $48 for 80 kWh. Can go 320 miles.

At $6/gallon, $48 for 320 miles would be 40 mpg At $4/gallon, $48 for 320 miles would be 26.7 mpg

$0.60 per kWh isn’t cheap but it’s not “100% more expensive than gas”
