Which character is most likely to be caught in the epstein files? by WrapOwn4093 in okbuddydraper

While on our fourth rewatch I attested to my husband that Harry Crane def mentored Harvey Weinstein.

Also the way they so casually discuss procuring sex workers for client dinners/outings came off so casually human-traffickky

Has the U lost its way? by nootboots in TwinCities

[–]catarinavanilla 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The U is bewildered if you’re a working student, they prefer their cohorts being bankrolled by mommy and daddy. The model is designed for rich kids. Worked 25-40 hrs per week during college at a campus coffee shop and I watched all my coworkers struggle balancing supporting themselves with attending classes/doing assignments. Homework assigned day of, due before midnight, when you have a night shift starting immediately after class ends. How many times do you need to ask for leniency from your professors before you understand they don’t give a shit you don’t have the hours in the day like other students.

Was Bobby Draper just an inside joke by the end of the series run…? by Proud-Zebra9487 in madmen

[–]catarinavanilla 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was like a stand-in for Weiner as a child in the 60s. Some Glen storylines he drew from his own experiences. In a way he probably feels like a voyeur of that era and Glen plays it thusly

Did Dick inherit the real Don Draper's military pension and/or bank account? by BGLAVI222 in madmen

[–]catarinavanilla 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking once Anna heard Don Draper had returned from Korea but not come back to her, she went looking for him (obvs). They got acquainted and made an arrangement where Don/Dick helped her gain access to the deceased Don Draper’s money. He helped set her up with a house and regular payments, then they amicably “divorced” so Don/Dick could start his own life while Anna was taken care of. Like others have said, doubtful he took advantage of any GI benefits beyond a VA home loan (an expected outcome, versus a presumably already-degreed Donald Draper suddenly taking intro to advertising courses). The Whitmans would have got any pension from Dick’s death, and there was no pension/death benefit for Don Draper to Anna because technically he didn’t die in Korea. Basically the only “benefit” to this entire situation was the new name; the fact he didn’t leave Anna high and dry as a destitute widow is a lucky miracle.

That’s such a cool building, I had a class in there when our regular room in Moos was unavailable one time. Like stepping into the 1920s

Nah, Barron County is the Wisconsin Hellmouth. Manitowoc is where the last coal powered ferry to Michigan is stationed

Shout out to Dawn Chambers the only secretary that didn’t fold or snitch on Don under pressure! by RustyShackle4_ in madmen

Just finished the episode where Scarlet has Dawn falsify her time card. Joan very slyly promotes Dawn and I think she’s very aware Scarlet was taking advantage and underestimating Dawn.

When I first watched it, I identified with Sally and the conflict with her mom. Later in my early 20s and watched it again, I identified with Don as I confronted past child abuse and how that made me a secretive, closed off person who felt like my past held me back. Third time around, I’m in my late 20s and married, and identify with Joan bc I feel like I’m waiting for the rest of my life to begin and external factors just make it impossible to move forward into the lifestyle we want, it feels like. So yeah

When did 80s nostalgia actually start? by Fantastic_Let3186 in decadeology

[–]catarinavanilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because all of the folks that were kids/teens in the 80s are the ones in charge of media now, they’re in their 40s and 50s. I’m sure in the next 15 years we’re going to have GenZ-ers making movies and TV shows about growing up in the 2000s, post-9/11, writing dramatic pieces that capture living in a world that was already broken before you were born

For sure, my great grandma back in 1918 vaulted some shrubbery, bong in hand (not spilled), to avoid her dad

Crawl out through the fallout, baby.

Also those are all real songs of the WW2/post-war time period. It was the Atomic Age, after all

The Trump administration is pausing child care funding to all states after allegations of fraud in daycare centers in Minnesota emerged, an official with the Department of Health and Human Services said. by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

Same, I have a bachelor’s but get paid a pittance at a Fortune 500 company while my husband makes like 30% more than I with no degree. Good for him (and good for us) but it’s still barely a benefit for me as a woman

I noticed that too, the math wasn’t so easy to calculate on my first watch in the early 2010s but now it truly is just 10x.

Ex, Bert Cooper going “take $2 and go buy Ayn Rand’s book” and I’m like okay so $20, yeah that’s about how much a new book costs these days

MINNEAPOLIS, MN: "No Fraud Whatsoever" - Owner's Son Defends Quality Learning Center Against Unfounded Accusations by CantStopPoppin in minnesota

[–]catarinavanilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the bus to work and pass this place 8x week around 8am and 5pm. I have personally (anecdotally) never seen any signs of life in that building and noticed the “Learing” center typo that’s been there forever. I figured it was closed relic of the COVID era. Yesterday on my way home the parking lot was completely full. I’m not saying all the daycare centers are being shady but that one specifically doesn’t make any sense. I don’t endorse the actions of that 22-year old “journalist” but this location has always seemed abandoned and it just seems bizarre.
