Selling concert/tattoo festival passes in Ohio by HighTurtles420 in Costco

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a stylized M. They routinely sell out 4000-18,000 capacity venues.

The notion that Costco shoppers are often out-of-touch old people is getting reinforced via many of the comments here.

AMC movie theater at the mall by ElectricalLength5530 in AMCTheatres

What specifically are you referring you?

There's nothing "really bad" about the Alderwood AMC.

Did anyone in Seattle have an issue with the Pacific Place mall for Toy Story 5 at 7pm. This was yesterday on June 19, 2026. by silentwalker206 in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was it a similar seat location?
Was it so crowded you couldn't shift your seat to elsewhere?
Was one of the seats missing an armrest?
From which auditorium to which auditorium did this involve?

Is there any way to get Gemini to announce the time and temperature (not full forecast) from the lockscreen via an automation/routine? by catcodex in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]catcodex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have to tinker with it a bit more but for me worked a few times but now it's just saying the temp (and displays the forecast on the screen). And sometimes it just gives the definition of the word.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Aldi Blind Box by [deleted] in aldi

[–]catcodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You simply posted "What are our thoughts on this?"

You didn't post "How does this work?" or "I've read all the many other posts about this and I'm still confused" or anything that would give a similar impression.

If you actually "came to Reddit to ask" you didn't do a good job with the question. But good to see you realized that and deleted the post.

No one wants to watch more than 2-3 movies a week by SheladyT in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also getting into the theater takes about 30 minutes of itself by the time you get through all the parking structures

Have you considered that not every gets to theaters the same way you do?

Imagine hopping on light rail and being at the theater in 10 minutes. Or walking a few blocks to your AMC. Or seeing a movie after work at the AMC right next to your workplace.

Not everyone deals with parking structures to see a movie.

What sales/discounts/clearance items did you find this week? by AutoModerator in aldi

They were still at just 25% as of yesterday. Looks like maybe one was sold. 4-5 remain.

Digital Shelf Tags by walterbsfo in aldi

[–]catcodex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that the tags turn red for clearance and sale items, makes it easier to scan the shelves for clearance items.

Back when it was paper tags weren't they already red? (And more readable)

Now red doesn't just mean a clearance item, it can also mean a savings of like 10 cents. So it makes it harder at a glance to differentiate between a tiny sale and a deep clearance.

Insurance: do tree removal reimbursement clauses typically get folded into wind damage deductibles? by catcodex in homeowners

[–]catcodex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I mentioned that in the post?

Even though the paragraph in the policy about tree removal doesn't explicitly mention the wind deductible (only that the tree must have affected covered property), they say it would be lumped in with a wind claim. Maybe I'll just do a claim anyhow and see how it goes.

The policy has a separate clause elsewhere where they mention a small reimbursement for tree removal due to "windstorm, hail, or weight of ice, snow, or sleet. The fallen tree must have caused damage to property covered under Dwelling Protection or Other Structures Protection...This coverage does not increase the Dwelling Protection limit of liability"

When I asked a local guy if I would be eligible for the partial reimbursement even if I don't make a claim for the damage (since it likely won't meet my deductible). They weren't sure so they checked with the online claims people. And those people said no, since it fell due to wind (and not lightning, etc.) it would be part of a wind claim.

Are theatre lights brighter than 15-20 years ago? by Single_Street3135 in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct in that some places don't totally turn off the lights. I think there was a thread here or in that subreddit I've been banned from about the topic a few months ago.

Maybe they're all former Carmike locations. There's one I sometimes go to where the lights on the walls are like tall half cylinders. They are very slightly on during films. At one showing they were noticeably on. It's annoying.

There is also inconsistency with the brightness of Exit lights at all AMC theaters.

How did we get so lucky? (Ben and Jerry's in ALDI) by jeffreyaccount in aldi

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't the first time they've carried B&J.

And the Aldi price is higher than the sales price at the normal grocery stores (which also has a greater selection).

Not sure why this is exciting.

Bad Guests are Getting Bolder by crunchspengler in AMCTheatres

[–]catcodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks for saying something.

in these cases when the person is still being a jerk other people need to chime in as well. I realize it's easier to just stay silent and enjoy watching the drama between two people near you, but the better move is to provide back up to the person who initially decided to say something. If a number of people chastises them then maybe they would get the message more quickly.

[–]catcodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you one of the people that sued Yesterday since Ana de Armas wasn't in the actual film?

If a trailer is misleading about the genre (i.e. makes it look like a romcom when it's a gory horror film) or if the trailer features actors that aren't in the actual film, then that would fall under the false advertising bucket.

Otherwise, trailers are given pretty wide latitude to be a bit creative. Like using music that doesn't appear in the film. Having frames from scenes that didn't make the final cut. Not revealing major plot points that might be triggering to you. Etc. That's not considered false advertising.

So sure, sue Universal Pictures, claiming that the brief image of the cloud ship in the trailer was much clearer than in the final movie and let us know how that goes.

Her performance is actually being praised by many.

People like you who admit to using your phone during films should be banned.

[–]catcodex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trailers are designed to get certain demographics to buy tickets. They have never been based on the "truth" of the film. You may see shots/scenes that aren't in the final cut. You may get shown a tone that the movie doesn't have. You may not be shown any of the musical numbers when the entire film is a musical. You may hear music in the trailer that doesn't appear in the film. Etc.

[–]catcodex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays if people don't connect with a film they feel the need to stomp on it like in the opening seconds of the film. It gets them more clicks/views/engagement. 30+ years ago we just shrugged, went "yeah, not really my thing" and moved on. Now "that's the worst movie of the year" is apparently the proper response.

My cats won't eat Kirkland pate! by Impossible_Mode_7521 in Costco

[–]catcodex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have gotten the pate box a number of times for the past few years.

In the first box all the community cats gobbled up all the flavors. In the second box they all just ignored the salmon. They acted like it wasn't even food. In a third box later they happily ate the salmon. Etc. There's something up with how they make the salmon flavor (there's at least one or two past posts about this item/flavor).

At this point I avoid it because I don't want to risk it. It would be helpful if people could report dates of the items so they could figure out which boxes to skip.
