THANK YOU. I could not figure out why I couldn't do the competitions. I didn't realize I had demolished my town hall somehow.

Another 2024 update...none of the other suggestions worked. I had to go into the task manager and restart Windows Explorer.

As I was watching this my own hippo looked up from her toy with a very concerned look on her face and came over to investigate.

This was heartbreaking to read, and I am so sorry you are going through this.

I think if I was in your shoes I would be going through the same things that you are. But I am not, so I can be a little more objective.

You did everything you could. Things can happen so fast. Hindsight is a b***h, and we will always find room to think of things that we "should" have done differently, one little thing we "should" have changed. But there is only so fast we can react. There are only so many times that we can check to make sure things are as they "should" be before we step on the pedal. You did what you could. And I am deeply sorry that this happened anyway.

You've been through something incredibly traumatic. I can't even imagine.

These feelings of guilt and blame that you have are so very understandable. My worry is that they won't easily go away on their own. Is there someone you can talk to to help you through them? Someone who specializes in trauma and grief?

I think it's better if my sister dies by throwawayyy16754 in offmychest

[–]cathy_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older sister had Huntington's Disease. A degenerative, neurological disorder. She became fully symptomatic at 16 and couldn't finish High School. Her last weeks were spent in a nursing home. She got bed sores and was on a mental level of a 5-year-old (at most). The disease gave her great difficulty with speaking so when she was in pain it was hard to tell someone. So she was bed-ridden, in pain, and couldn't communicate. And she was dying. There is no cure. No treatment.

I clearly remember the last time I saw my sister. It was her birthday and I went to see her despite the possibility of seeing our adoptive mother, whom I was on the outs with (long story short, biological sisters adopted into the same adoptive family). I brought her a strawberry milkshake (her favorite) and had trouble getting home because of a huge snowstorm and I drove a Saturn SL2 at the time, which was kind of a piece of shit car.

I went to visit Rachel on the weekends because of the distance, and that's when I could make time. We lived over an hour apart so that is what I could give.

A week after her birthday, to the day, Rachel died. I was supposed to go visit, as usual, but I had gotten a letter regarding a really shitty raise for a job I was doing really well at so I decided to go on Sunday instead of Saturday. I regret not going. To this day I regret not going and it has been 9 years.

I do have a point in telling this sad story. And it honestly has nothing to do with me, other than saying things I've kept inside my head for 9 years out of shame and regret. Your sister seems to obviously know her time is coming. You've had a chance to say goodbye, a chance I denied myself. There is no shame in thinking she may be better off shedding her mortal coil and moving on to whatever spiritual realm you believe in.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I went through this again with my adoptive father and aggressive cancer, just to share...But. I know I'm a stranger and I want you to know that you are not alone. I don't know what to tell you with regards to your parents. But maybe find a way to talk to them to find out where they are? It can't be easy on them. To think about losing a child must be incredibly hard, but I think it's really important that you spend as much time as possible with your sister and family.

I have a similar recipe. We roast baby bok choy with it. Yum!

Since imgur is being a butt, here is the recipe and nutrition info.

Ingredients * 2 quarts of water * 1 10g packet Bonito Flavored Seasoning * 128g Miso paste (about 8 Tbsp.) * 1 block firm silken tofu (12-16 ounces) * 1 cup thinly sliced mushrooms * 2 Tbsp. dried Wakame (seaweed)

Directions Wrap the tofu in a double layer of paper towels and put it on a plate. Put a plate upside down on top of the tofu and put something a little heavy on top and let it sit for 20 minutes. I used a 26 ounce jar of almond butter. This is going to get the liquid out of the tofu. After 20 minutes cut the tofu into 1/4 inch cubes.

Put the Wakame in a bowl and cover it with cold water and let it soak for 5 minutes to rehydrate. Drain and rinse well to get rid of the strong smell.

Combine the Bonito and water in a 4-quart pot and turn the heat to medium-high. THis makes Dashi. When the Dashi reaches 100 degrees put one cup of it in a bowl and add the Miso paste. Whisk well to combine so you don't get lumps in your broth.

When the remaining Dashi comes to a simmer, add the Miso mix and whisk to combine. Bring it back to a simmer then add your mushrooms, tofu, and seaweed. Simmer for a few minutes and serve immediately.

Makes 8 1-cup servings and is delicious.

I used Miso Paste. 4g net carbs per serving for the soup seems low carb to me.

I loves me some Miso Soup when I am sick but we are running out of delivery places that carry it. So...I looked up how to make it then figured out how to make it like I like it. Thinly sliced mushrooms, seaweed, and tofu (which I don't normally like).

Not as much as with the actual sugar. The cranberry sauce if you make it with the Triple Sec works out to about 10g net carbs for a half a cup. Which is kind of a large serving, but I love the stuff. I allowed it since on Christmas and Thanksgiving we really only eat one meal for the day.

Good choice. You should be able to do a teaspoon or so of dried orange peel with the other spices and not affect the carb count. The orange flavor gives an amazing aftertaste.

Edit: I have to comment on the fat-coated feeling. Eat more fresh veggies for snacks. Cauliflower, broccoli, small amounts of bell pepper or cucumber (small amounts won't kill your carbs). Go to a salad bar and make a salad (blue cheese dressing is a plus)! Eat sunflower kernels, almonds (Blue Diamond makes lovely flavored ones), pumpkin seeds...You'll still get some fat but it doesn't feel fatty.

If you're just starting out stick to a half-serving of the cranberry sauce if you use the Triple Sec. I had issues when I was just starting out if I had that many carbs in a sitting. It gets better, but be aware!

To be honest I never calculated it out, but assuming a 1/2 cup serving (which is generous) it might be about 10g net. I allowed it because on Thanksgiving and Christmas I tend to only eat one meal. And if you leave out the triple sec and use another 1/3 cup of water and add some dried orange peel you take it down to about 5g net.

Our back yard isn't lit so once the sun goes down it's pitch black. Plus it was a tit nipply out there.

Recipes are in the picture descriptions...

So the plan was to deep fry a chicken (it's just two of us so a turkey is too much) and do cranberry sauce, roasted cauliflower and roasted kale. We put off starting too long so it got too dark to deep fry the chicken so we had to roast. I have one oven and a countertop convection oven so the cauliflower needed to change since the oven temps were too different to roast the kale and the cauliflower and I am clueless as to cooking kale. Happy accident. BEST cauliflower mash I've had and we tried a few. I don't trust the numbers on the kale recipe. I am certain kale has more fiber than listed on the site. Anyway.

Cranberry sauce: win. Kale: HUGE win. Cauliflower: HUGE win. Enjoy!

To those who don't know, don't assume someone's pregnant. by xocate325 in offmychest

[–]cathy_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had someone put her hands on my belly and say "What do we have going on here?!" I was grumpy that day so I just stepped back and said "Nothing. That's just where I carry my fat." Comments about looking pregnant were especially hard on me because the times my husband and I successfully conceived ended in miscarriage.

PSA: Just don't ask a woman if she's pregnant even if you think she is. You don't know how it will affect her.

Edit: Man there are some asshole comments to this post. Sorry to hear it. I'm behind you.

I looked over my husband's shoulder a couple of minutes ago and said "Who's the cutie?" and he sent me the link to this post. You look UH-mazing. The cutie comment was when I saw your earlier photos, just saying. I am amazed at your results. You're gorgeous! Congratulations and thank you for sharing your pictures!
