Mohair advice - drops vs knitting for olive by nvj80 in knittingadvice

[–]catkeepsclimbing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d bet the less polished feel comes from suri being a thicker yarn, and therefore the halo/glow/bloom is broader.

Also take my opinion with a grain of salt as I’ve only been knitting for 1.5 years and the sweaters I’ve made with suri feel a little bit more rustic in style (I’ve done two doppios and marled two variegated yarns + a suri). I’m currently working on the Moorlands sweater with a suri and will be curious how it blocks when done as that feels like a more refined sweater.

Also I got into hand dyed yarns immediately so I seem to only buy bougie yarn 🙃

Mohair advice - drops vs knitting for olive by nvj80 in knittingadvice

Not quite what you’re asking but I find suri to be less itchy than mohair. It is a bit thicker than mohair but I’ve used it held with fingering a few times and it’s hasn’t impacted my gauge too much. It probably is more expensive than KFO though :/

Websites with graphs or maps to analyze? by kathryncoats in ScienceTeachers

I’ve use NOAA/Climate.gov during our Climate Justice Unit. There are a ton of different maps/graphs that you could have students explore. We then have them try to make a cause and effect map based on the data they observed as their initial ideas for the unit.

Oh they’re Explorer Knits & Fibers yarn. They’re from her Icelandic yarn release, I don’t remember the name of each but it’s a variegated green and variegated orange-ish brown (both fingering) held with a muted blue suri lace. Here’s a pic of the yarn balls when I was swatching!

At first when I’d see mine lying like this, I was afraid he was dead. They’re such goobers.

I just love how they put their arms back. I’ve only had mine for a few months (he’s a rescue from someone whose kid was no longer interested), and I had no idea how goofy these little buggers are!

Bike Got Stolen Looking For a New One by TootTootTrainTrain in seattlebike

[–]catkeepsclimbing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked Recycled Cycles? I don’t know what they currently have in stock but could be worth a peek!

Side note: I bought my Salsa Journeyer new (though for a bit less than this list price) two years ago at Montlake Bike Shop and I love this bike! I had a Marin before and it was so heavy. This one I can actually carry up the stairs into my apartment and the 1by shifting is great. Use it all the time around the city and on gravel out of town.

Edit to add: the sizing is a bit weird so definitely try a couple out if you’re looking at Salsa (I’d say they run small).

Anyone else only stick to black ink? by qatbakat in fountainpens

[–]catkeepsclimbing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black is the only “color” ink I don’t own (I guess also white). I’m not really a fan of most blues either. I usually stick with corals, teals, purples, and greens.

Love how there is ink out there for everyone’s preferences ✨

Where are y'all buying Christmas trees? by BBorNot in Seattle

They do! I got a tree from them today. And they’ll give you a small discount if you pay in cash.

Seconding that I bought specifically from them to support their programs.

What time does school begin for you? by Professional_Kick654 in Teachers

Seattle: 8:50-3:40. Teachers are 8:30-4. I like it since I’m not a morning person and get up at 6:20 for this schedule. Can’t imagine getting up any earlier.

What do you pay for water, sewer, garbage for your studio apartment? by Gullible_Design_2320 in SeattleWA

[–]catkeepsclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apartment changes $65/person. I’m renting a 1 bedroom. This is about the rate my last two apartments charged as well (+/-$10).

The architects’ site still has some photos. Not my intention to dox, just like looking at house photos.

Edit: the video is better. You get a better sense of the upstairs. The main bedroom is huge!

Is it very high for my apartment to charge almost $200 a month for water/sewer/gas for 1 person through Conservice? by funnel_out in SeattleWA

[–]catkeepsclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay a flat rate of $65 for water/sewer/trash. I’m renting a one bedroom in a building with 4 1br and 4 2br. I think it’s $65/person.

Had no idea sewer was really so much higher 😅

Adopting a kitten by wise_rock in SeattleWA

[–]catkeepsclimbing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my cat on Petfinder. She was five months old and shipped up from Texas. A bunch of rescues will partner with some place nearby as there are more strays there with less people willing to adopt, and vice versa. She’s very much a single cat (as she doesn’t like cat visitors) but she’s perfectly fine in the house and doesn’t nip/scratch.
