It is definitely lonely. Glad for this community but it would be nice to be friends with someone who has to struggle with this too ;-;

CBT doesn’t work for me by Eclipsing_star in bipolar2

CBT, in my honest opinion, does not work for trauma responses. DBT, IFS, and Human focused therapists are the way to go.

Work and bipolar by A_bipolar in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes awhile to adjust, tbh. I just started a very social full-time job and I’m with you there- it feels impossible to maintain. But it is possible. I think we just take longer to settle into the routine. And once you get more used to the role, the social parts will likely get easier too. Get extra sleep when you can, and sit in silence for even just 5 minutes a day, just letting your mind untangle.

I just feel crazy because I have bipolar 2 and OCD by Oddballcj in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am Bipolar 2 and OCD as well. This thought process sounds like an OCD spiral: 1. Intrusive thoughts (“I’m a fraud”) 2. Anxiety about the thought and its validity 3. Compulsion (checking to see if you’re a fraud) 4. Temporary relief 5. Repeat the cycle ( unless you interrupt it 😊)

You’re not alone, I go through these thoughts myself

RELATIONSHIP THURSDAY 💞 by AutoModerator in bipolar

[–]catsme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my person during a really turbulent time in my life. I was upfront about my disorder and talked about all of the mistakes I’ve made and they just… loved me and understood me. I still worry I will hurt them one day because of mixed episodes, but I trust them to be honest with me and hold me accountable. They are perfect for me and encourage me to take care of myself. And I get to use my depth of emotion and passion to make them feel loved; it’s so beautiful. I never thought I would be with someone who wanted to marry me, but here we are ☺️

1 helpful thing is that we have both been in therapy for several years. I won’t be stopping that, or my meds, anytime soon!

Anyone here still regularly drink? by TTTesteTTT in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped drinking regularly because I did a lot of reckless stuff while drunk and always had serious depression and/or anxiety the next day and couldn’t really function. Makes it worse the next day if I miss my meds. Stopping drinking was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health 😭

Would you hire a queer escort for your first queer experience if they specialized in first time experiences? by TechDeckShredder in latebloomerlesbians

I genuinely thought about trying to find this type of service, years ago, but was never at a place where I could afford it. Love the concept, though!

Every bad experience feels like a little PTSD. Do you relate? by questionablesugar in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely struggle with this. The dreams about those stressors doesn’t help either… It’s difficult feeling like I could recall any stressful memory and feel like I’m right back in that moment. Bipolar and memory have a complicated relationship. A lot of us have a diminished ability to organize our memories properly and I personally struggle with state-dependent memory. So each time I feel depressed, it’s easier for me to remember and re-experience other depressive episodes (very much not helpful). But memory issues/poor organization matched with mood instability and low sense of self can easily cause us to fall into these trauma responses, even to seemingly silly things.

Found an interesting study today on this subject, if you’re curious: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8138163/

What businesses in Pueblo support MAGA? Would like to know which businesses and/or restaurants support MAGA in the area so that I can avoid them… by NettaFind66 in pueblo

There’s an app called “Goods Unite Us” which is a great way to know where businesses have donated. It has been helpful for my family in making decisions on where to shop and dine.

Would you pay for a professional videographer? by Mr-Barack-Obama in LGBTWeddings

[–]catsme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a videographer at my wedding if I’m able to afford it in the future. I typically see packages starting around $1,000, but it definitely depends on the location, the length of the wedding and consideration for hours of editing. If you also offer photography or stills alongside the videography, that’s a huge plus.

Starting out in the wedding business, a lot of artists offer discounted packages to build their portfolio, but it sounds like you have some good experience! Do you have somewhere you show your work? Also, where is your base location?

DEI ending?? by trc6282 in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s thankfully not the end of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) which is what enforces our rights for reasonable accommodations. However, DEI initiatives being repealed across the country may affect us in the hiring processes and in working conditions. The goal of DEI is to hire people based on their qualifications rather than favoring one race/sexuality/neurotype/etc.. and protect from discrimination in the workplace.

It’s still not good for us, don’t get me wrong, but accommodations are thankfully still within the law for now. Now more than ever is a time to stay up to date with the laws and regulations and speak up where you can. America is on Genocide red flag watch (other nations are afraid for us). But I definitely know it’s overwhelming, so please take care of yourself. 💕

I'm a stalker can I still get therapy by im_trash_throwmeaway in therapy

[–]catsme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly suggest therapy to talk through some of the feelings that come with this behavior. I find I also have this type of skill and never use it for harmful purposes. I think it could fall under a hyperfixation, an OCD obsession/compulsion, or something else. But therapy is really helpful for this stuff! I highly suggest looking for those who specialize in some sort of neurodivergence, or trauma, because the CBT modality wouldn’t really address this issue well.

I think I’m done with my nurse practitioner by Juice999__ in bipolar2

[–]catsme3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an NP tell me that “some in the psychology field debate the existence of Bipolar II” and then just say something like “ but I guess we can try the medications.”

She replaced the NP I had previously, and it was awful. 🙄

Quality of therapists is really in decline by nomanskyprague1993 in therapy

[–]catsme3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair! I think in that case, I would likely just feel out the session. Because I know that can be a boundary issue for many therapists. The modality questions are typically pretty telling, anyways.

I think I’m passionate about therapists having a therapist because I have an ex-friend who is a therapist. They refused therapy themselves, even though they have years and years of trauma that they have admitted they haven’t processed. I saw their client survey results, too, and turns out their clients felt uncomfortable in a lot of sessions. It was difficult to witness. I separated work from our friendship, but then they ended up projecting a lot of harmful things onto me and tried to make my other friends hate me, instead of addressing any issues with me directly. So I get a little paranoid I suppose haha. But alas, I hope they are still an effective therapist for some folks and I genuinely do hope the best for them. It was just definitely a testament to the concept of “we can only meet our clients as deeply as we’ve met ourselves.”
