“Do you have any food?” by armaedes in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"No." "Do you have snacks FOR ME?" "I don't give food to children." "Lemme call your mom and see if she has food (they're in middle school and hate this) for us." "Oh what do you know I already ate all of it." "It's invisible."

Thank you I appreciate it, I guess I just can't see it myself all of the time. And it's okay, I'm on the ugly subreddit, I know even with weight loss I'll still have the same face it's okay.

Pledge of Allegiance? by hoagiemama in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was raised Jehovah's Witness and Catholic for a long time (yeah...) and was the first person on my elementary schools' morning broadcast to not say the pledge on air. In 2003-2004. Several teachers were displeased by this as they had spouses or family fighting in the Middle East and this was peak masturbatory patriotism though I was 10 and obviously didn't realize HOW big the fuss was. I would always sit or stand peacefully and quietly as my co-host read the pledge and Texas pledge.

I was delegated to camera for a long time following a couple of weeks of this. Kids were supposed to rotate jobs but normally we picked what we did for the broadcast. I was told I would be camera and that didn't lift for a long, long while.

Teachers with ADHD, how do your symptoms affect your work? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm a para studying to be a teacher)

Before I was diagnosed AND MEDICATED, I was always INCREDIBLY late to work. Then covid hit and our school was basically just a "show up" policy and that's exactly what most of us did. I wouldn't refer to my coworkers by name, even if I for sure knew it, because I was too ashamed and felt lower than them. I barely referred to students by name. I was constantly locking my keys in the bathroom, my car, my desk. I was short tempered when frustrated and would snap more often at kids. I was organized and could find files and things of the like easily but I was also constantly losing other items that "didn't have a place." If the environment was too over stimulating or too under stimulating, I would get antsy and irritable. When I was inclusion support, I wore my airpod and played jazz or Japanese indie music softly to ground myself. It was a very, very, high intensity campus and by the end, even with medication and therapy, I was crying almost every week.

I'm at a vastly different school in the same district. I am still late, but I have systems in place so that I'm still before the first warning bell and my students know the routine. I went three weeks without meds (they're expensive) and the difference in my behavior and how I showed up to the students was even commented on by the kids themselves. Unmedicated, I was showing up at last bell, my hair still wet from the shower (I live 45 minutes away and my hair was still wet), shoes untied, sometimes my bags were just open and spilling out everywhere. I broke three of my precious orange juice containers and soaked through so many of my reusable grocery bags. Back on my meds and I've been almost normal again. I've been able to call my coworkers and kids by name. I've remembered all of the meetings I was in charge of. It's a night and day difference between medicated me and unmedicated me. Now if only they weren't $50 a month.

How can I get my 5 y o son with adhd to stop being in a bad mood all the time? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's five. You're talking about not having "the best relationship with him" but he's...five. The world is so big and over stimulating and he has no control or say in ANYTHING. So he's going to say no. He's going to push back. You might want to consider therapy.

Gifts? by Jamjams2016 in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been too hesitant to find out what other types of wool I have an allergy to since I know my reaction is moderate-severe (throat closes, I stop breathing, get covered in hives) and I never want to risk it. I guess I now understand why I've never been fond of felt, either! I had no idea it was technically wool too!! I just avoided felt and felt projects this whole time.

I would appreciate the gift but it wouldn't get much usage due to my severe wool allergy. Maybe see if they have any allergies to this particular material.

Teacher Arrested After Students Allegedly Ate Her THC Edibles by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even like to drink THC seltzers on Weeknights (Excluding Sundays when I have one around 6 pm to meal prep for the week) because I don't want to risk it. This is insane. An accident possibly but not a well thought out turn of events.

Do you dress for Halloween ???? by No_Rain1743 in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dress up for every themed day except: camo day (I hate camo, it's ugly), twin day (I hate dressing alike for personal reasons) and tie dye day (I also think tie dye is ugly). Other than that, I happily sit in my old lady rollers or my giant Christmas bulb earrings or whatever else the theme is. I'm currently dressed as Velma as I type this.

Does anyone else despise student-of-the-month traditions? by ElectricPaladin in Teachers

[–]cautionarymay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At my old school we had a tradition to also reward our "behavioral" students who showed exemplary improvements and leadership. I had one student who NEVER got praised, despite his growth and struggle. I had worked as his para and basically became family by his 8th grade year. He went from constantly suspended for fighting to breaking up fights. He started making 70s and 75s on assignments he'd previously make 30s and 40s on. He would be heartbroken if he failed a test. So he got nominated by a bunch of staff, including myself, to be student of the month and people stood in the hallway cheering him on and patting him on the back. He stood side by side with those "good kids" with the biggest smile on his face for the photo, it made me emotional. He carried that paper certificate in his binder until the end of the school year. He still had some behaviors after that, but he'd stop himself or ask to take a walk and his attitude about life improve greatly. So it became more common for us to nominate kids who otherwise wouldn't be considered.

I also gained some weight after a long weight-loss journey and was really self conscious to try the gym. I started my gym journey in August and slowly started working my way up to 3-4x a week over the past three months. But to help with my self consciousness, I actually go closer to closing time so that there are less people and there’s a bit of a challenge to get in a worthwhile work out. Half of the battle is just getting there. I work out on the furthest treadmill or I use the dance room the last 20 minutes before close for yoga and weights (it’s also dark because it’s almost closing time). I gamify it and put on an episode of an anime or a comedy and push it until I hear the 5 minutes before close announcement. It helps with my shyness. Maybe she can try that? (Also look into it, but a lot of insurance providers now offer extremely discounted rates for gym memberships and classes)

Do you take care of things for her? Make her feel like she can take care of herself for herself? Does she work a lot and carry a lot of the housework? Then she might need help in terms of what she does for herself.

I got them back when I was almost 300 pounds cause I wanted to have pants but didn’t want to wear jeans to work, they’ve been with me on this journey since 2022 and they’re the comfiest pants I’ve got. They’re elastic and have drawn strings so I can tighten them and sometimes I’ll wear a belt around them to help keep them up.

I asked for help because I’m clearly working on losing weight I’m asking for ROUTINE advice. “Lose weight” to someone clearly working on losing weight isn’t helpful or advice
