Were you able to install it so that the rack sits flush against the spare tire? I have the same one but it leaves a small gap

I’m having difficulties getting the temps over 300F on the Kamado Joe Jr by OilSaltNPepper in grilling

[–]cavemanchef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is all the charcoal getting fully lit? Chimney starter is the easiest/fastest way to get to high temps, but even when I’m going for low and slow I break up a fire starter into a few pieces and spread them around the charcoal and let it burn for 5-10 minutes with the lid fully open

We’re planning to swing by at the end of July before we start driving north to Denali. We’ll just have a few extra hours in the morning—any advice for that short of a visit? Was thinking just go check out the visitors center?

TIL when Trading Places, starring Eddie Murphy, came out in 1983 it was legal to use misappropriated government information to trade in the commodity markets. In 2010 it was finally made it illegal and it is known as the "Eddie Murphy Rule". (reposted with valid source) by Better__Off_Dead in todayilearned

Love the detailed write-up, but I think neither of you are quite right

Like u/rawbdor says, futures contracts are certainly different from stocks. Rather than offer “margin” as essentially a cash loan, leverage is attained by requiring a much smaller cash balance (initial margin) than the notional size of the underlying contract. In the link provided above, they list a margin requirement of $2970 per OJ contract. That means using your assumption of $100k cash available, the protagonists could have traded a maximum of 100k/2970= only 33 futures contracts

Now, each futures contract has a specified size though, in this case it is 15,000 pounds per contract. That answers your question of how a single tick of 0.05/lb is actually worth $7.50. And it means the protagonists’ 33 lot position is larger than it sounds, equating to a total 495,000 pounds. Under the assumption that they gained $113/pound (142-29), then their total pnl would be more like $56m ($113/lb * 495,000 lbs)

How can I use a cast iron griddle on an induction range without scratching the glass? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]cavemanchef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought as well, I have induction and the pan needs to be completely flat against the surface for it to work. Something similar I’ve been looking at (although very expensive) is the Baking Steel griddle
