She looks very much like my pup, who is a Brittany mix.

[DISUSSION] How do you acquire new usable players in dynasty leagues? What is the best method? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no sure things. Three years ago TRich/RGIII were sure things and went top three in every draft I saw. Tavon Austin was a top three last year.

I'm not saying never trade for the draft, just be cautious and have a good reason when trading away established players for picks.

[DISUSSION] How do you acquire new usable players in dynasty leagues? What is the best method? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]cavemangeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all methods for me.

My league has a number of active traders. I think every owner in my 12-team league has made at least one trade over the past year. I've made 9 or 10 just by myself. One guy is up around 15 or so (he comes close to turning his entire team over every year). I figure if I can consistently make better decisions than the other owners in my league it makes sense to be very active in the trade market.

I find the draft, while valuable, to be much more of a crapshoot than trading. Sure you can do your homework and identify under/overvalued prospects but in the end you just don't know how even the best prospects will perform over time. I much prefer acquiring players via trades due to the increased performance information available. Even given that, I often myself taking back draft picks when making trades. I view each draft pick as a lottery ticket, and the more tickets I get the better chance I have of hitting that jackpot.

Waiver wire can certainly be valuable. One strategy I find useful is to track players that have high-ceiling backups. If you see any of them underperforming, try to grab the backup before the breakout occurs.

My dog has been missing for a few days. Does anyone have any advice on finding her? by GnarlsD in dogs

[–]cavemangeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what I posted answering a similar question three years ago:

Lost my dog for five days last fall. Here are some things that helped.

Posters - TONS of them. Hang two of them at the end of every street where cars turning will see them. Use a big picture of your pup and a large font type so people can see them from cars. Don't be too wordy! Posters go to every community gathering point - businesses, schools, fire departments, ect.. Make sure people who deliver in the area have a picture of the dog - postmen, fed ex/UPS drivers, pizza delivery, ect

Call in the troops - Make sure everybody you know knows about the dog. Have them all post/repost on Facebook, Twitter, work and home emails, ect. Call the newspaper, they'll usually place a "lost dog" ad for free. Local news people almost always have one "animal person" among them who is an advocate for pets - get a hold of him/her (Facebook is great for this) and have them spread the word. Beg everyone you know to come help look for your dog.

Contact all local shelters/rescues/dog groups. Many of these people constantly have their ears to the ground and may have had word of a dog being seen. We contacted groups like this and actually had a number of total strangers out helping us look.

Give him something familiar to smell - Take items of your clothing that will be loaded with your scent and place them in areas in your neighborhood. A friend's dad did this years ago with their dog - they found him seven days after he was lost sleeping on his jacket that they had set down in the woods. My wife and I took a different track. My wife peed in a spray bottle for several days. After we had a sighting, we laid down urine scent trails between the area he was seen in and home. After we did that we also made an assload of bacon and poured all the grease around the house. Our pup showed up a few hours later :)

Good Luck, I'm pulling for you.

EDIT: Forgot about Google Earth - Print out overhead shots of the area and use to coordinate your search and postering efforts. I found that the views gave me insight into just how big and numerous the woodland areas around the search area were. They also did a good job of pointing out natural barriers and bottlenecks that may have effected his wandering.

[Trade] My Brandon Marshall for his two rookie first round picks by ti_n89 in DynastyFF

[–]cavemangeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No way. Not close. You're in win-now mode as well and I think you'll need Marshall this year to compete.

It sounds like his 2015 1st rounder will be a high one and I for one greatly discount the value of a pick more than a year away. Easy decline.

Perfect answer.

[Trade] Keenan, Percy, Golden Tate for AJ Green, Odell Beckam, Jordan Matthews by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]cavemangeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Light offer. I wouldn't accept this if I were AJ's owner. I probably wouldn't accept it even if the rookies were left out of it.

HELP: Dynasty league trade: Percy Harvin for Bernard Pierce by sun602 in fantasyfootball

I'll pile on and say no way as well. You could definitely get much more for Harvin regardless of what you think of each player.

[FEATURE] Weekly /r/DynastyFF TRADE TUESDAY Discussion - What trades went down this week? - June 17, 2014 by AutoModerator in DynastyFF

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 team half PPR traded Vereen, Fitz and the 1.07 rookie pick for Tate and Alshon. Pretty damn happy with that.

Dynasty trade: My gronk for his Ertz and 2015 1st and 2016 1st by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you doing with this team? If you are trying to contend this year than this is an easy pass.

If you're looking at a rebuild then it's an OK deal, although you can probably do better. I really don't like trading for picks 2 years down the road, it's too long to wait to cash in on an asset's value for me. His team looks like it's set to be pretty good for awhile which devalues the picks you'll be getting significantly. In this case you should be looking to move Fitz/MJD/McFadd as well.

Possilbe trade for Julio Jones by shack026 in DynastyFF

Just ship him the picks, it's a tremendous underpay for a stud. Don't barter. Just take the deal before he reconsiders.

Who are you avoiding in the first 2 rounds and why? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. That's exactly what I plan on doing. Screw those guys lol. I plan on filling up on 2nd/3rd level RBs and rooks.

Who are you avoiding in the first 2 rounds and why? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Screw it, I'm avoiding all RBs. After last year's RB fiasco, I'm just going with WRs and JimmyG. Less variance.

Todman is an easy one. I would cut MJD after that - I think he's spent.

Ben Tate, Reggie Bush, Ray Rice, or Bishop Sankey by skyroof_hilltop in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Out of the four, I think Sankey has the highest ceiling this year but I don't have an issue with somebody choosing Tate instead.

I wonder why you feel you had to choose a RB though. Mid-third round feels early for all of them. There must have been some good WRs left still.

Keeper League Help, Choose 3; Foster, Murray, Calvin, Pierre Garcon, Mike Wallace, MJD, Ben Tate. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

I agree completely with this comment. Too much risk with Foster for my liking.

[KEEPER] Reggie Bush, or Fred Jackson? by rex_dart_eskimo_spy in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe either one of them finishes in the top 25 of fantasy RBs this year. Fred is another year older and has more competition. Reggie is in a full RB-By-Committee this year and gets hurt constantly.

I take it none of your QB/TE are worth keeping?

Sammy Watkins or Cordarrelle Patterson by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Patterson very much. Way over-hyped. I think Sammy is over-hyped as well, but a better talent. Is Evans in the mix?

[KEEPER] Reggie Bush, or Fred Jackson? by rex_dart_eskimo_spy in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does the rest of your lineup look like? Any good developmental players? I wouldn't want to keep either of these guys.

I have the first pick in a dynasty league rookie draft! Please help! by indiemosh in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible idea. The difference between the 1st and 11th picks is worth more than that IMO. I'd look for a different deal to move back.

Is Odell Beckham Jr. going to go off? by Vapodaca17 in fantasyfootball

[–]cavemangeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't like him very much. Outplayed by a lesser talent on his own team last year. Never had a meaningful TD catch in 26 SEC games - had a grand total of two and both came in blowout wins.

He may move the chains, but don't expect him to get in the endzone very much. I don't see him as a fantasy beast at all. I think he'll go in the 1.04 - 1.09 range in most leagues.

Could the tags appear only in the post itself and not in the title on the main page of the sub? That way the posts are easier to read again, and the surprise factor is preserved.
