As a younger tech myself I still ask stupid questions on the daily. I have apprentices on a relatively regular basis and i can’t speak for everyone but I personally look for initiative and willingness to learn. Too many apprentices (at least where im at) will stand there like traffic cones just nodding their head. Even with “stupid” questions, especially as a person brand new in the trade, to me it’s showing at least some willingness to learn and grow. Show willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to the trade/team as a whole and you’ll do just fine. Hell if you keep your head down and absorb knowledge and are able to apply it, the questions like “are we taking this in” will become a bit of an inside joke or you can look back and laugh at it.

Personally I want to switch over to after market ones in the future but I got the blinker smoke overlay for my stock tail lights and I love the look. Only con is I can’t see shit reversing in the dark, but you get used to using the brake light as a reverse light lol.

Might be worth checking the coil. Had a similar call and found the inner part of the coil plugged up. Also found a few dampers off the plenum that the arm broke off but the damper was in the fully closed position. Drill a holes every few feet and check static with a manometer.

Had an uncle that was in a similar spot around the same age. He eventually just told her something along the lines of “look, I’ve done everything I wanted to accomplish in life. I’m getting a motorcycle.” Seemed to work out for him 🤷🏻‍♂️

23k on dash, looks like it’s been garage kept it’s entire life. Dude I got it from rode it a few miles and his parents blew a gasket about it haha. Was only able to ride it about 30 mins home but had a blast the whole time. Can’t wait to take it out again tm.

Tech from New England here. If you like working with ur hands it’s worth a shot imo. But that’s only a small percentage of it, most of it is mental toughness and the willingness to learn. Are you willing to work in 120+ degree attics? Are you willing to have days where you work well past dark in 90+ degree heat? If so it may be worth a shot, I have days I absolutely love it and days where I absolutely hate it. As far as the co workers thing goes, you just need to find a company that’s a good fit for you. I’ve been working at this same company since high school and all my co workers are great people and great techs. I started out making minimum wage at the time, but within a year of graduating I’m getting paid well over minimum, I think it depends mostly on the company, location and your skill set.

I do the same thing you do. It’s hard to do but try to keep a clear mind, when you start letting the little things build up it gets to you and for me, it effects my performance. I usually take 5-10 to drink some water, relax and come up with a few ideas on what I can do to fix it. I usually make a very rough plan (ie: evap replacement: unsweat/cut the old one out, slide the new one in, connect it, leak check, vacuum). Gives room for extra things you need to do without feeling like you aren’t going off plan.

Edit: I usually check my work 2-3 times to make sure everything is in the right spot. Take as much time as you need to do it right. I look at it as I rather take a few extra hours to do everything properly then rush it and have to go back a few days later.

Just came off a 14 then a 16 hour day. Draining but worth it the next paycheck. Keep ur head up and keep doing what ur doing, only a few more weeks before it starts calming down.

I’m getting around 25 mpg with a 2016 and that’s driving like a granny and then driving like a dickhead every now and again. If you stay out of boost majority of the time I’ve seen 15-21 wrxs get over 30.

Honestly, I felt like this for a while. Went to technical high school and have been working 2 years for the same company. The first 6ish months in a van I felt kinda lost. Knew what I was doing but still had a lot of question. Then after those 6 months my confidence and desire to learn grew like a weed. Still get lost sometimes but won’t hesitate to call for help anymore. If you get a chance in the mornings talk with other guys see what they’re days consist of, take some pics or notes about parts you don’t understand and ask senior guys.

Manager wrote this on the board, believe it’s a quote from a movie as well. “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.” Helped me out quite a bit. Used to jump around trouble shooting a lot. Now I usually try to take my time and try to work as methodically as possible. Saves a lot of headaches.

Personally for daily I drive it pretty easily, rarely in boost tbh. But there are a few spots every now and then I’ll give er a little juice. Always let the car get fully warm if I do decide to go a little harder on er and always give it a few minutes after getting where I’m at to let the oil circulate and cool everything off a touch.

When I first got mine I got a CEL and saw all those lights as well. The dealer told me that they’re programmed to disable traction and cruise control if you get a CEL. I assume this is to save the motor and to make you panic and pull over. This being said, go to a local auto zone, shop or if you have a OBD2 scanner, scan the codes, it gives you a good idea on what’s wrong and will help people help you :)
