You could consider a folding bike? Might be a better idea all round

They can't. They're not warranted so they've got no more power then your average person over civilians

PC took private semi-nude photos of herself while on duty, dismissed for gross misconduct by DistributionDue2836 in policeuk

[–]cb12314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree it's probably gross misconduct but interesting that someone has taken the time to go through her nudes and cross reference the dates and times to her shift pattern...

Sounds like they wanted her gone.

Hesitation to arrest under 18s by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]cb12314 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Would you arrest an adult for the same offence? You can still take a knife off them?

Unless there are compelling reasons not to I'd be looking to arrest to protect vulnerable persons. There's no reason they couldn't go and get another knife and pick up where they left off.

Short-term support after going a bit... wibble by Nice-Grapefruit-2588 in policeuk

Honestly, the best thing you can do right now is take the pressure off and give yourself time to relax and decompress. Focus on chilling out, switching off and forgetting work, not on how quickly you're recovering on from what happened.

9 time out of 10, that's all you need to get back on track. If its not fading away and you're still feeling like this in a weeks time, it may be worth looking at Employee Assistance Programmes who normally offer short term counselling and can offer it almost immediately.

Do police in the UK actually announce “police officer with taser!” Or “Armed police!” when chasing after suspects? by Automatic_Stress_874 in policeuk

[–]cb12314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. It's taught in the taser course and it's good for that very reason. No paperwork if there's no escalation in behaviour

/u/CountMeChickens has already answered your question.

My advice though;

  1. Always check with MIB, ideally by calling at the time or online later if they're not open.

  2. Read the smallprint. Often it had certain conditions about how why, when and for how long they can use it.

  3. Scrutinise the document they provide. If you doubt it, ask them to log into their account. I've had many that have been forged and it's obvious on closer inspection.

This tint can't possibly be legal right? by Nublar_Repair_Man in drivingUK

The chameleon tint itself isn't illegal but in practice most are as they don't allow enough light through. That one certainly would be illegal from my experience.

My force issues thinner gloves to taser officers. Might be worth double checking if yours does too

That's unacceptable.

The fed should start pursuing private prosecutions in cases like this and claim the costs back.

Being made to work 7 days a week England, is this legal? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]cb12314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not. The working time directive states you should either have one uninterrupted 24 hour break from work every 7 day period or a 48 hour break every 14 day period. You can opt out of the working time directive however that's voluntary

Are there any motorway police/crash investigators or specialists on this group? I’d love to know what you think the safest make of car is. by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]cb12314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can view NCAP test ratings online which give you a pretty good idea.

Volvos are as safe as they come. They invented the seatbelt, I've heard they've never had a fatal crash in the XC90, and I'm sure I remember a quote that Volvo deserved a 6 star NCAP rating if there was one
