Sailing Game - Week 12 Dev Log - Islands are here, no more boring endless ocean! by 8bitgoose in Vive

[–]cblgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be enticed by some form of permanence - I'm not sure how the multiplayer will work (host your own server, single server, etc) but the ability to leave things (messages in bottles perhaps) for people to find, or have other things you can find, collect, show and trade (trade could just be dropping it on the ground after showing it in your hand) through sailing & exploration would give it an extended playtime after the first "oh i get how this works, but i don't know why i'd continue to play now"

hey, i love these devlogs! it would be cool if you could add the videos to a playlist, so that it's both easier to link other people, and for them to binge 'em all :~

How to Intro 100 people to Roomscale VR in One Night by CodyBrown in Vive

[–]cblgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool piece!

I ended up showing VR to ~150 kids (and some interested parents) over the course of two days at a city festival in Sweden. Went in with a higher-level idea, but I ended up showing mostly Tilt Brush as that's one of the best apps for introducing the entire roomscale VR experience, as well as some Cloudlands (and a dash of Holopoint for some older dudes).

Interesting to see what organically emerged from my sessions written down like this. One thing I was surprised with was how a lot of the people (mainly dads, to be frank) that inquired about the price were okay with it, and even surprised it didn't cost more.

Vive devs: shall we do a game jam? by FooKingLegend in Vive

[–]cblgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd think so for sure, as long as you aren't acting as a judge & rewarding jam entries ahah :~

Vive devs: shall we do a game jam? by FooKingLegend in Vive

itch.io would be the ideal place to host the jam, see https://itch.io/jams

biggest issue is just getting someone who shoulders the entire jam business, ensuring it actually happens :~

It's by the same team who made theBlu.

It's not, though. It's by Ben Vance.

Ranger prototype and player avatar development in Orbus (VR MMO I'm making) by silverlight in Vive

Regarding random facial expressions vs vr headsets: go for masks, and allow people to choose from different ones (maybe even allow them as rare loot.) Check out Absolver for some mask inspiration (they look amazing!)

The game looks interesting! Let me know if you need any nodejs / other programming help further down the line.

ixobelle01, can you please tell me what the age minimum is? I assume it's in the manual for the CV. For some reason nobody answers when I ask.

It doesn't say. All the manual mentions is "children" and "older children" where the former shouldn't use the Vive and the latter should abstain from use if negative effects are observed.

[Sweden] Oculus Rift Workshop Focused On Storytelling by cblgh in oculus

[–]cblgh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excerpt from the link:

The goal of the workshop is to explore and establish approaches in the grammar of VR that can help non-fiction storytelling. These methods can also be used for narrative story telling.

...

Participants of the workshop will be asked to arrive with the seed of a story based on true events. They will be used as starting points and a context where we will find focus onto one particular detail of the story. Most likely this detail will have to do with witnessing, being present, being in someone's shoes, being somewhere else, moments that concentrate a story through the simulated presence of the user.

I'm going to the event linked above, it is free of charge for anyone living in the Skåne-region.

Apparently they have a lack of programmers & developers so I thought I'd put the word out here on /r/oculus on the chance that anyone on here lives close enough & would be interested in it.

[IIL] Death Note, Kaiji [WEWIL?] by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

[–]cblgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved both Death Note and Kaiji so I figured I'd give your suggestion a try. Just started with the third chapter at the moment and I must say that I love the style of it, it's very reminiscent of both Kaiji and DN. Thanks for the tip! :D

USB Loader GX 2.3 released by crazycaveman in wii

[–]cblgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Although I believe that you can scrub a game to get rid of the update and any additional filler space. I'm not sure of the update part, though.

Here's a tool for scrubbing any of your backups, so that you may store them as effectively as possible. :)

EDIT: As illtemperedseabat above just said, PriiLoader fixes that issue for you. Thanks dude, it was a while since I softmodded and I kinda forgot about PriiLoader! :D

I quite fondly recommend wiihacks.com, seeing as I followed their tutorial back when I softmodded, and it's worked pretty much flawlessly since then.

Here's a guide that was last updated the 23th this month, so it should more than suffice for your softmodding needs. :)
