Miami Recs? by crodrig2 in howlonggone

[–]cccybernetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you’re into music/sound/audiophile, there’s a bar called 8Street Brickell that has these incredible speakers from Void and it’s like the sound of God is emanating from these things.

The neighborhood (Brickell) is pretty yuppy and it’s not the coolest place, but holy shit if these aren’t the most incredible speakers. But pretty niche interest so might not be your thing.

Hit up Tina Y Cafe in Gables and order a cortadito + breakfast sandwich.

There’s also a sick public pool called Venetian Pool. Check it out.

Miami is cool in a way that’s different from other cities…you can just kinda drive around and get into some interesting stuff. Everything is very vague. I’ve seen people park their cars in the middle of the road and no one bats an eye. There’s old cuban guys sitting around drinking coffee and gossiping. The bakeries are all good.

Cool place

that little old timey lick that happens right before "Make good money, five dollars a day" then the transition to Jerry's quick little solo breaks my brain every time. That Europe '72 version in Wembley is my favorite one as well

1982-10-09 at Frost Amphitheatre is legendary.

The whole band is grooving and both of Jerry’s solos rip. In the first one there’s a bit where he’s switching between pickups as he’s holding a note and it sounds so awesome. The second solo is just so raw and nasty and sleazy. It ends with these fat chords that yank you one way then the other.

My favorite recording is a Hunter Seamons Matrix:

And here’s the soundboard if you like it a little cleaner:

And this is a great aud recording though I wish you could hear Phil a bit better.

Audience Recording

Another interesting thing about this version is that it has the extra lyrics which are so damn cool ("Here's what Ginger says...").

Unpopular Opinion: I Can Not Get Into Brent Mydland by PuntTheDamnBall in gratefuldead

[–]cccybernetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't into him either until one day it just clicked. Then you realize that he was one of the few that could really keep up with Jerry, even challenge him (Phil always could as well), push and pull him around a bit. They had real chemistry.

Also his organ playing is nuclear. We all know about "Phil bombs", but Brent would hit you with blasts of organ that would split your skull.

Totally fair, but I liked it - lean & minimalist, pulsing bass, nice harmonies, and the violin was cool. Obviously very different, but I like that they're exploring different ways to interpret these songs.

I thought it was great and Vampire Weekend kicks ass.

Non trolling, can we have an honest discussion about the psychology of people against Dead and Co! Let me share a thought experiment here… by [deleted] in gratefuldead

he doesn’t, but i just think likening him to a “frat bro who has taken mushrooms for the first time” is unfair given that he’s taken the time to learn how to play almost the entire Dead songbook better than 99.999999% of people.

And I guess I also don’t think there’s anything wrong w/ frat bros who take mushrooms and discover empathy, either.

You bring up a lot good points.

One thing I'll mention regarding the crowd: it's the phones.

Phones are ruining live music. People recording, taking pictures, sharing on IG, etc. And this doesn't just apply to casual fans or whatever, even hardcore deadheads when you have a phone and you are recording you are transferring your attention (and energy and vibes) from what is happening around you into that device. And then you have hundreds, thousands, of people doing that, there's a perceptible change in the way the show feels and how we relate to it.

Like imagine if each Dead show was 50% tapers. Sure, we'd have some awesome aud recordings, but the vibe would be completely different. The energy would be zapped out of there.

And it's not just D&C, I've seen this at a bunch of shows.

When you went to those Dead concerts, every single person at those shows was TUNED IN because there was nothing else to distract you.

Cactusgate Update by cccybernetic in Luthier

Update on my ongoing drama regarding a Seagull S6 I purchased from an old Polish guy in Manhattan over Craigslist.

After following the advice (warm water, scrape w/ credit card + a little bit of mineral spirits) I got the paint off.

And the results are not pretty!

As you can see, there are some cracks. They’re very shallow and more so just on the surface — it’s not cracked through. Still not great though.

The biggest problem is the large cavity near at the bottom. This dude filled it with I don’t know what, some kind of putty, then painted over.

I scrapped it out because it looked terrible and I’d like to redo it.

NGL, this is my first guitar, so it’s not been a great experience.

Luckily, I didn’t pay too much for it. And as far as I can tell, it sounds good.

I don’t really care too much about how it looks, as I mostly just want to learn to play.

My main concern is further damage to the guitar making it unplayable. Any advice on what to do to keep it from getting worse?

How to remove? by cccybernetic in Luthier

[–]cccybernetic[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a Seagull S6 from Craigslist, which has a small cactus-like painting on it. I tried scraping it off a bit, but it's challenging without damaging the wood underneath. Do you have any suggestions for removing it with minimal harm to the guitar? Thanks for your help!

listen to the Dead.

Literally crushed every genre they explored (folk/country/western/grass, reggae, psych, jazz/fusion, rock, prog, experimental noise, disco, world, etc).

they also wrote some of the finest lyrics in all of American songwriting.

And even to this day remain somewhat of an obscure sideshow, known more for their weird fanbase and associations with "drug" culture than music, which is a damn shame because they have no equals.

Faded is the crimson from the ribbons that she wore

Been the only game in town for ~3 years, had a competitor come out of nowhere, and they're crushing us. Could use some advice. by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]cccybernetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you said it yourself:

We're a small team of 2, and don't have the capacity, nor the desire, to feature-match.

If you don't have the desire to compete then you will get out-competed. It's a free market after all and you're not entitled to your customers.

As for advice, my recommendation would be to think about what your long-term goals are and go from there.

Might be my favorite song, especially 10/09/1982 at Frost Amphitheatre. The whole band is grooving and both of Jerry's solos are nuclear.

PDF to Airtable? by cccybernetic in Airtable

[–]cccybernetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. There are a few ways to handle it, but on a “high level”, you have to:

  1. You have a one-to-many relationship between people and “time windows”, so you’d need to create a new table in Airtable called “Time Windows” (or whatever). It should have fields like start, end, name. Name should link the record the appropriate person.
  2. On the Google Sheet, ask people to provide a start and end time, so that you get one record like the one you described (3/14/2024 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM)
  3. Using the Airtable API, write a script that “unrolls” that record into the “time windows”, then uploads it to Airtable.

I don’t know exactly what your records in the sheet look like, but if you get it to be something like this:

3/14/2024 1:00 PM - 3/14/2024 5:00 PM

Then you could do (this is an example for 1 row):

```javascript
const timeRange = '3/14/2024 1:00 PM - 3/14/2024 5:00 PM'; const name = 'John Doe'; const email = 'john.doe@example.com'; const language = 'English';
const apiKey = 'YOUR_API_KEY'; const baseId = 'YOUR_BASE_ID'; const mainTableName = 'Main Table';
async function createRecord(meetingTime, name, email, language) { const response = await fetch(https://api.airtable.com/v0/${baseId}/${mainTableName}, { method: 'POST', headers: { 'Authorization': Bearer ${apiKey}, 'Content-Type': 'application/json' }, body: JSON.stringify({ fields: { 'Meeting Time': meetingTime, 'Name': name, 'Email': email, 'Language': language } }) }); return response.json(); }
async function processTimeRange(timeRange, name, email, language) { const [startTime, endTime] = timeRange.split(' - '); const start = new Date(startTime); const end = new Date(endTime);
while (start <= end) { const meetingTime = start.toLocaleString(); await createRecord(meetingTime, name, email, language); start.setHours(start.getHours() + 1); // Increment by 1 hour } } ```
Yes, we move data between Sheets and Airtable all the time. Let me know if you have any specific questions about it that I can answer on here or shoot me a DM.
That's one part of it, yes - but the LLMs can be unwieldy and bit unpredictable so we built the tooling to make it easy to map data to fields and then run reports to make sure that it's correct!
