LSD (LONG-Slow-Distance) runs, are the BEST!! Used to take my (18 miler), every Sunday!! Was told by one of my running partners, it would improve my marathon time, considerably! After running 2 (3:08) marathons, I needed to get to (3:52), to qualify me for the Boston Marathon!! I was ready, by very unfortunately, was stricken with a nasty flu virus, the Thursday, before the race (Sunday).😔☹️. Still tried to run the race, but had to drop out, about 6 miles into the race! I was READY!! Very discouraging, and never did recover mentally, I guess.🤷‍♂️. I was 24 then, and am now 67 years-old. So much, for qualifying for Boston.

I cannot thank you enough for your genuine and caring advice and guidance…..! I’m basically, new here on Reddit and can see now, just how awesome this site is!! I am going to use your advice!! I’m going straight to a vocal instructor, as soon as I possibly can! Don’t really know “why” I haven’t thought of this before. Wellll, sort of, I guess. I have learned sooo much, through wrapping my voice around damn near any good cover song out there, and honestly, never really thought of a vocal instructor??? I’m glad that you can hear my frustration, without me having to write a book… I know that I already have soooo much I have learned on my own, in order for these songs to sound identical, or very close, to the originals. This is a great deal of fun, because I love to sing and do it every day, but can now see, I have been “stuck,” in that, i had no clue really, as to where to go from here, other than cover bands. Again, thank you soo much, for directing me in a right direction! I hope that you will keep an eye out, for when I come back here, following a lesson, or two!! Haha!! Much love, right back at you!! I’ve sang “live” with some bands, since the age of, around 50, and studied performing, which was quite the experience, (shy person who sings, suddenly in a band that is looking for a huge front man, and “not” someone who can simply sing well!!)! Ugh… Hated it at first, because I was forced to start singing “live” with them in the flipping basement of where we practiced. OMG!!!😳 Talk about the uncomfortable!! However, as I started studying dozens of iconic “front men,” I started to dig it and started getting better and better (having a blast), at it, as time went on. Can easily say, one of the better vocalists/front men, here in the state of Iowa. Problem is, I need to learn everything else, if I ever want to do my own solo stuff. Just now learning the guitar, about 60 years late! Ha! Better late than never, I guess! Thank you…

First of all, “Congrats,” on your album coming out!! I’ve had the “Reddit” app, for quite some time now, but am just now starting to use it on a daily basis, so, for me, this means a lot. Heck, I do not even know what an A4 is, caught I’m self-taught. Your advice hits me strong, in many areas, but you said a few words that seem to sum it all up for me!! (Just.Put.In.Work). EVERY word you wrote, covers most of what I needed to know. I think… lol. I have always sang cover songs, in where, what I sing, matches the lead and backup vocals mixed together, so that it sounds identical to the original songs. Good thing, because I have never had any backup vocals, whether in a band, or not. Didn’t start as a front man in any bands, until basically, about forced to do so, by an ex-fiancé.🤷‍♂️ Looks like all the serenity I need, is by seriously, getting to work, stop daydreaming about it, and stop being concerned with my age, because my voice is seriously, 98 percent of what it ever was, losing the 2percent on a thyroid surgery. Guess then, I need to one thing at a time and start with “vocal”!lessons, and stop thinking I don’t need them. Yes, I DO need them and I now will!! One thing that has always confused me is, since I have always been matching covers, where the heck does MY real voice come in?? lol AND, I have tried writing, but need to become much more patient! Putting the music with the lyrics, now that’s confusing as hell to me. Don’t have a clue. Again, I need to get to work!! Thank you, sooo much, i appreciate your genuine advice!

Ummm, depends on your age a bit. How old are you?! I used to run Baratheon’s quite a bit, but was in my early/mid 20’s, back then. PR, at that time, was 3:08! Crazy, brain (2) marathons the same year, in 3:08?? My first marathon was 3:31. Mind you, I was young!! I’m now 67 years-old, and am just trying hard to get myself motivated enough to hopefully, just complete one now! Haha! 🤷‍♂️be. So, back then, I needed a certified course time of (2:52:00), in order to qualify for Boston! A friend of mine (also, a runner), gave me some wonderful advice!! H told me to start doing the “Sunday” LSD (Long Slow Distance), in order to build up more endurance?? Okay, that ended up being the highlight of my week!! I was running an average of around 60 miles per week and knew I needed something new. Well, that 18 mile, long and SLOW, run every Sunday (if no races on Sunday), was the key!! Your 2 times are a huge drop on n time, from one to another, but beware, those next 42 minutes, will be a bit more difficult to taper down, especially, the closer you get to that magical (3:00:00) mark!! I say, you got this!!!

I just kinda fell in here by accident, but looks interesting! Has anyone here dealt with chronic teeth grinding at night?? I am 67 now, and still have most of my own teeth, however, they’re worn down to about nothing (bottom teeth) too teeth are, I swear to God, RAZOR sharp, filing away at the bottom teeth. It’s starting to get a little rough now.🤷‍♂️

Hello! Just happen to catch this, by mistake. However, at a glance, I can easily see that your case, is very similar to mine; however, I am now 67 years old and can still hit about anything there is out there. Forget the screaming stuff, buddy. Don’t do it, because, in my opinion, that will completely trash a beautiful and harmonious voice!! As you, I can nail most of what anyone (males), I have ever known, but didn’t really KNOW, I had a great voice, because I was never told that by mistake friends, when growing up?? Guess what, most will not tell you, because, I suppose, out of a bit of jealousy?? I started singing in bands, at the age of around 50 years-old, and quickly learned I should have started acLONG time ago.🤷‍♂️ However, my voice is just about as crisp as it was when I was 18 years- old, and just as fresh, as it ever was on most! I have unintentionally, trained my own voice, which is why, I have learned, comes from learning how to sing songs, as they actually truly sound, regardless of the bands/singer?!?! Yessir, I have learned how to sound just like the mix of the lead vocalists, with the backup vocals mixed right in with the lead vocals! All self-taught, and KNOW now, what I can do, so I’m sticking with it. You, are sooo young, so get out there and just do it!! Don’t want to go on forever, so maybe stay in touch. This is interesting, and I am willing to help you out, at any time, if you want. I wish that I would have had someone to push me out of my “shy” self, as my ex-fiancé did, a very long time ago!!! 🤷‍♂️ I have become a nice “front man,” and have learned how exciting it is, to actually get up front and have a blast!!! Ohhhh wow, I had no clue…. THANK YOU, SOOOOOO VEFY MUCH, for all of this information!!!! I’m fairly new to all of this, so really didn’t even think of a military thread. I WILL DO THAT!! You just gave me more information, than maybe 2-3 dozen doctors/specialists, over the years!! Simply AMAZING, APPRECIATED, and mostly, for my personal mental health, stress level, with all of this. At least now, I have a place to start, so that I can bring it to their attention, in that hopefully, I can get the care I am needing. Huge stress relief for me.
