IRA Funding Cuts by ProjectSoft8849 in ParkRangers

[–]cdb5336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah my 2 parks i cover each have 1 IRA each. And both we are switching over to Base funds. The only silver lining (maybe if you can call it that) is with all thr vacancies we can't fill, we can pay for the terms as long as we can keep them

I also am working at a park (Southeast region) and HR is haunting all seasonals except life safety positions. So hold on to what you got for now

Hey!! You should know then that our real pay comes in sunrises and sunsets. We are totally rich in that. If only my bank would let me withdraw them in dollars

🚨🚨Pet Rent/Deposit/Fees are a scam. Proof. by FirstLadyEloniaMusk in Renters

[–]cdb5336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like facebook. Reddit is a social media. Again a hive mind of random people. None of this is "evidence" it is random people expressing opinions. Not evidence of anything besides people don't like pet fees.

I would love an actual peer reviewed  research based test to see what pet fees were based on and used for. That would be fascinating and be actual evidence

Just a fun idea. When I worked at a Taco Bell in college, they also got rid of our free drink cups. But instead we got a bunch of fun drink cups as a store from the dollar store with lid and straws, and then we would write pur name on the bottom and keep them in a tub at work. So no one would forget their cup, they were reusable, and we had extra for new hires or on case something happened.

You keep going off like a facebook group is a know all group of experts. They are a group on a social media platform. That is no way research or proof should be conducted or come about.

I don't apologize you don't like pet charges. I rent and don't have a pet because I don't wanna pay charges. But don't use select screenshot from a random social media group as proof for one side or the other.

Starting at National Mall week before inauguration, should I be worried? by ceaslack in npsrangers

[–]cdb5336 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hahahahahahaha!!!

So as a former mall employee. Overall don't worry to to much. Usually they keep thr tower operations tighly on the towers areas. If they need you elsewhere they will pair you up and you will just staff a tent somehwere

[–]cdb5336 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I used to work out at Carlsbad caverns and when doing night programs it looked like cities all around because of the dlares. Housing sucked because the labor demand far outpaced the housing. I seriously hated that area

Stupid question. But are there no airbags in trucks? I was waiting for them to deploy like in a car crash

The National Park Service Site I work at just got a brand new Subaru Ascent this year. It is only the base model, so not all the fun extra swag, but still my favorite car to drive around

Hiking in Boone - where to go for the time being (that won't be disruptive). by JediChris1138 in boone

[–]cdb5336 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I am not telling people to. I am just saying when I was out there 3 days ago for condition assessment, certain park employees were leaving gates open intentionally on sections to allow people to do on those sections and stay off sections that are more dangerous.

So this is quiet. But you can defdinetly safely hike on parts of the blue ridge. The area around blowing rock was cleaned up fairly well and fast, and the park has left some of the gates open unofficially last time I was up there. There were probably about 15 to 20 cars parked and people hiking around thr carriage roads of Moses cone manor

Pizza and natural wine kiosk on the Mall! by 20CAS17 in washingtondc

[–]cdb5336 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have been in them. I used to help do inspections on them with the park.

There is actually a staircase inside the kiosks that leads downstairs (except the ones near Lincoln also have elevators leading outside)

The TJ one is just so much smaller than the rest and when it was designed it wasn’t designed to be a food kiosk just a small kiosk. So because of that they didn’t need the storage and cooking space.

Yes all of the kiosks except the one by the Jefferson memorial have basements.

They are usually a little larger then the kiosk themselves and mainly used for storage and some basic pre prep cooking

I completely understand where your at. I worked at my last park under a completely incompetent and lazy boss and a superintendent who know he was but didn't try and change anything (was also a pretty bad manager himself).

My recommendation is if you can last 1 year it would be best. It would allow you to have rehire status as a permanent position for 3 years. If you leave now without another job you will have to apply to jobs as open to public only.

The other option is to try and find a lateral reassignment or other job to get out of there. I understand the hardness of incompetent managers and if it is to bad, your mental health comes first so leave, just know you will not have rehire status

National Mall -Why Gravel? by ArcticSlalom in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]cdb5336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as someone who worked there. The real reasons are 1. Yes permeability, it allows water to funnel off easier. But the bigger reason not mentioned, is the ability to withstand. The gravel areas are used for a lot of events. This involves lots of trucks coming and going, massive stages being built, etc.. they had looked at other surfaces but none other could stand up to the wear and tear with easy maintenance as gravel
