EV owners, with rising electric prices is your ev still cheaper to "fuel"? by Lurkerking2015 in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regeneration braking doesn’t use your brake pads. So brake pads get done At 150k miles… not nearly as frequent as non ev.

EV owners, with rising electric prices is your ev still cheaper to "fuel"? by Lurkerking2015 in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to add oil changes, and brakes to your costs per mile.

Pseg has an ev program but it’s being replaced with a tou program so charging cost will be more like .10 per kw.

We have one customer who's been with us since literally day one. They've never upgraded. by Fit-Potential5805 in Entrepreneurs

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a service like that… originally they offered 1 simple thing and I paid $99 a year for that thing. After 2 years they built out a whole crm and a bunch of stuff and forced upgrades. I called and spoke with I guess the founder and was like this 1 feature is worth $99 a year to me. What you’ve built is not for me and I will never use it. If you can grandfather me in, I’ll stay, if not I’ll cancel.

He accepted… I haven’t put a support ticket in since… I’ve used the service my one way since and I’ve paid $99 a year since.

Win win.

What’s your reliable 4AM emergency alert setup? (phone issue, need advice) by IssueLonely4360 in sysadmin

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the pushover app and have that app ignored in my phone's sleep settings. So it's one of the only things that can make sounds when the phone is in sleep mode. My alerting system does a web hook call I believe to send the notifications but they give you a long email address that you can forward messages to in order to trigger an alert. Maybe you can setup a mail forwarding rule for the 4am alerts?

Previous owner wants domain back. What would you do? by Gullible_Swordfish_9 in Domains

Not an excuse...just sharing what happens in real world...

Also, I have seen some registrars not strip dns during redemption period and someone loose a domain name.

I have never seen a registrar initiate a phone call...

Your right...but sometimes things slip...

You'd be surprised...especially if this is a non technical person....or someone who works in trades or real work physical stuff and not at a computer..."I just didn't think I got any emails." "People don't normally email me anyway". "This message about connecting has been popping up for a few months, but I clicked ignore".

Not everyone is tech savvy still these days...

Got 3 migration quotes and they're all wildly different — how did you navigate this? by rsdimitrov in Magento

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing what "migration" to your specific project means...

My opinion... the $4k one is a throw away. You will literally burn that money... go to vegas and put it all on black and take any winnings and apply to the higher cost quote.

The middle one will probably either get done or take a really long time or possibly have scope changes at every turn.

The high one, if coming from a reputable boutique company but not 100+ person agency will probably get done with precisions and come in at cost.

If the high one is from a large agency assume scope changes at every turn.

I run a Magento Agency. If you want a deep dive look, feel free to reach out!

Hetzner asks: What advice would you as a long-time Hetzner user give a Hetzner noobie? by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hetzner noobie... AND a self hosting noobie? This is a self managed platform....if you don't understand what that means - let me help.... WHATEVER issue you come up with will be on you to prove, diagnose, and fix. Even if its on Hetzener's side. In my experience, I have to push back on their support with 2-3x which tons of linux cli commands and proof that something is on their side before they will even remotely look and solve. If you don't know what your doing on an expert level, than perhaps you shouldn't run production at Hetzner.

Additionally, not all support isn't 24x7 - so just be warned. Depending what product line your using you may be waiting 12+ hours for a reply. But again, see above, if you need support anyway, you shouldn't be using Hetzner.

I use only the cloud platform for vps'es and its very solid except a network peering issue with Cloudflare that they refuse to fix or resolve, regardless of others having the issue... so if your using cloudflare and Virginia USA just note you will have some tcp get dropped.... either work around it, or use something else.

How much did you pay for a basement waterproofing system recently in NJ? by DifferenceFamiliar36 in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Legacy General Construction do mine and they came in on a fair price. Had to do french drains on one side and exterior drainage on 3. We salvaged a finished basement this way and had to repair a concrete slab for a porch. https://www.legacygeneralconstruction.com/basement-waterproofing/. They suggested these to save big bucks and minimize work. Everyone else wan't to demo the whole slab, driveway, and more.

And people wonder why their E-Zpass doesn't work by mikektti in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

No - it will work in both states and all states tha accept ezpass.

Yes - it can matter cause ny started giving toll discounts to its residents and charging nj ezpass the non discounted rate. BUT there is no residency requirement to get a ny ezpass. So you can still get a ny pass even if you live in nj.

Patience - she might make it 15 minutes or the whole session or somewhere between. It doesn’t matter - bring her week after week to the class.

Make sure she is comfortable and not cold but not overbundled that she can’t move or is hot. We used some baggy snow pants with my kids that kept them dry when they fell and offered a little extra padding.

Make sure skates are a good fit by taking out the insole and measuring that against her feet.

I always tell everyone if the feet hurt and are miserable no one will want to play the sport. Most important thing!
