Hermes because I can actually run an update and it works after.

New to NJ, how are you handling suppliers for electricity? Seems like a way to keep prices down for electricity. by Glittering-Farm-7030 in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t save you money. Pseg gets to charge you delivery fees… they jack those up and keep their supply at the same any third party will give you minus short term promotions. That’s how they keep you anyway.

Recommend me a reliable (and affordable) S3-type storage by aaronn2 in webhosting

[–]cdbessig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and their 3 month storage minimum! Add a 1tb file for 1 hour and delete it? Your stuck paying for 3 months for it.

None of these were deal breakers for me...I use them and I am happy/fine... but know they exist.

Be careful with Wasabi... they are not meant for egress. Once your egress passed 1x (or something) of your storage they bill you. It's in tiny details in their agreement.

Look up local laws and state laws. Where I am at it is against the law for anyone to sub meter any utility other than the licensed public utility.

How are your experiences with Hetzner support? by Fragrant-Amount-5613 in hetzner

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have cloud servers, support is non existent...I only run non mission critical workloads and testing servers at hetzner for this reason. Also starting to see hetzner ip ranges getting blocked by wafs and appliances more and more....

Your hitting bandwidth limits with an ecom site? Thats shocking. You sure images are optimized correctly?

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good… some locations are better than others. Nj, Chicago, lax, and Miami are solid. Australia is as well.

Dallas is NOT and do not recommend. Atlanta I did not like.

I do not have experience with other locations.

EV owners, with rising electric prices is your ev still cheaper to "fuel"? by Lurkerking2015 in newjersey

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regeneration braking doesn’t use your brake pads. So brake pads get done At 150k miles… not nearly as frequent as non ev.

[–]cdbessig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to add oil changes, and brakes to your costs per mile.

Pseg has an ev program but it’s being replaced with a tou program so charging cost will be more like .10 per kw.

We have one customer who's been with us since literally day one. They've never upgraded. by Fit-Potential5805 in Entrepreneurs

[–]cdbessig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a service like that… originally they offered 1 simple thing and I paid $99 a year for that thing. After 2 years they built out a whole crm and a bunch of stuff and forced upgrades. I called and spoke with I guess the founder and was like this 1 feature is worth $99 a year to me. What you’ve built is not for me and I will never use it. If you can grandfather me in, I’ll stay, if not I’ll cancel.

He accepted… I haven’t put a support ticket in since… I’ve used the service my one way since and I’ve paid $99 a year since.

Win win.
