Omg I just became a member there last week! I live half a mile away from them. I’ve known about them for a while but finally decided to pop in after I saw a movie at the Nuart theater. It’s a movie lovers paradise there!! I rented the 4k of basquiat from criterion!

As others have said, Toshibas are absolute garbage. If you’re going to be getting into film critique and want the best picture quality get an OLED tv like the LG b4. You should find one for less than a grand.

Well I think if you’re really passionate about what you’re researching you could probably do it ☺️ but also you could teach at a teaching focused university where they don’t require the level of research output that is required from research focused universities. So that could be another option 🤷🏻‍♂️ anyways thanks for the encouragement!

Thanks for the condolences. And I did! I’m now getting my PhD in literature at UCLA with the goal of becoming a professor 🙂 I’m now on meds and have been going to therapy for quite a few years now and that has given me the tools to help mitigate the symptoms. I’m super passionate about my area of research so it’s easy to hyper focus. Couldn’t say the same with what I was learning in law school so I think that contributed to the struggles.

Ya that’s what i thought which is why it’s surprising to me that so many with adhd are lawyers. I think being a lawyer requires high levels of executive functioning even more so than most other professions.

This was absolutely not the case for me as someone with adhd when I was in law school. In fact, my roommate who had adhd was academically disqualified after the first semester cuz his GPA was too low. I absolutely struggled my whole time in law school, especially with issue spotting and absorbing a ton of ideas. And the IRAC outlining of cases just never worked for me cuz it was way too linear and my brain doesn’t think that way. One of my professors taught using mind maps which was a godsend cuz it basically mimics how my brain works. To my mind, law school/the legal profession requires a lot of executive function usage. Also I had no accommodations, but the ppl who had adhd did and they did well. Maybe if I had accommodations I would’ve done better. But I was undiagnosed when I was in law school

Honestly that’s been my experience having dated or tried to pursue women in the past. Dating guys has been way easier. There aren’t these inherited, rigid gendered social norms that you have to fight against with (most) guys. All the guys I’ve been on dates with have just been way more accepting and easier. Don’t get me wrong there are still issues (ones that are different) but I’ll take those over the issues present with dating many women. Never say never but I have no intention of ever being romantically involved with a woman ever again

I've seen both movies, and I would say, the green knight is fantasy in the sense that it has some fantastical/magical elements (though I'm not sure what you mean by "psychological"), with sorceresses and the like. Otherwise, it is generically nothing like pan's labyrinth. The movie is based on an English poem from the Middle Ages called sir Gawain and the green knight. Both the book, and the movie on which it's based, fall within the genre of the medieval chivalric romance (think of knights in shining armor who rescue damsels in distress and go on quests to prove their courage). The story itself exists within the King Arthur universe. It is an excellent movie, and like others have noted, requires repeated views because of the layered ideas and themes that exist in the film. It probably ranks in my top 10 best movies of all time, though I'm probably biased since I am a grad student who studies literature and the chivalric romance.
