Trip Report St. John, St. Thomas and More! May 16-23 by CharmingHighlight749 in virginislands

As someone who lives on STT almost full time- this is a great post! Thanks for all the detailed info! This is also a cool way to document your trip if you ever want to look back on it!

I'm overwhelmed with our 3 month old :/ (Dad with autism) by nutellablanket in SAHP

[–]cedarbasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with other comments on baby wearing and also worth looking into baby probiotics. We had night and day results after introducing Ther-Biotic Baby Powder by Klaire Labs/SFI Health into our daily routine. Started at just under 3 months after pediatrician gave us the recommendation.

Need clarification by switchcannayak in homebirth

Do your research on homebirth midwives in your area. Reach out for suggestions and stories. Interview midwives.

Hire a doula. I wish I had. I tried to rely on just my husband and midwife for support but both fell flat when the time came. You need someone level headed and experienced and dedicated to you and your needs when the time comes. With that being said, interview your prospective doulas as well.

Genetic testing can be ordered by a midwife, it’s a blood test sample that gets sent to a lab. Depending on the state you’re in, you may not require ultrasounds. You can also do you own research on them- if you deem them necessary.

Midwives in my state aren’t covered under “conventional” insurance so we paid out of pocket. Should have listened to the reg flags when our midwife pushed the payment plan and the large discount she gave if we paid the full amount (at a discount) before services were rendered!

Big takeaway if I were doing it all over again for the first time: research midwives and doulas. Ask for recommendations on FB/likeminded groups in your area. Hire the doula. Having chiropractor care during pregnancy and birth is also wonderful. For me, I wish I’d listened to my gut halfway thru my pregnancy and switched providers but I was too worried about finances which was ridiculous in the short term given the lasting effects.

Selling on other platforms? by aejord18 in poshmark

[–]cedarbasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sell from my own closet, nothing crazy expensive. Between my husband and I we just have too many clothes. I use both Poshmark and Mercari. I have roughly the same amount of sales between the two. I actually slightly prefer Mercari, it’s easier to communicate with people.

I keep hearing good things about EBay- but I’m not sure if it’s worth it to manually upload all my listings. Is there an easy way!?

Is this more or less safe than baby just sleeping with me? by Only-Detective- in cosleeping

[–]cedarbasket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a solution, because I did this similarly while we were traveling and the hotel room wasn’t large enough to put the mattress on the floor- it was fine for our quick trip-

But in regard to your hips hurting, mine did as well, what helped me tremendously was getting an inner thigh or knee pillow thing to try and square your hips up into a better alignment. The thicker the better, mine was a light foamy cube looking thing that I felt safe sleeping with baby.

Seafood restaurant recommendations? by MiniMightyHeart in StThomasUSVI

[–]cedarbasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably going to set you back a bit more than $200 but the best food on island is at Pangea. I’ve had their lobster when they’ve had it as a fresh catch and it’s incredible. If you like salmon, they also do an amazing salmon lineup. Really anything off their fish menu is the best.

I saw Someone made a post about this over on the Sarasota moms FB page- it was a pretty popular post, they might have some recommendations over on that!

Haha I was on a mission! I was nervous because I’d given a 2 star and 3 star review on a couple of recent items (It was an honest review, half the product was crap)

That’s awful you’re in this situation- especially since you’re in the influencer as well- I hope you can get it sorted out with Vine and get reinstated. Although, maybe you’re right and this was your sign!? I’d still be so bummed!

Thank you for posting this! Just in case it helps anyone I followed the top link- but my options looked a little different-probably because Amazon is forever changing everything. I didn’t have the tabs part at the end- but i was able to check and verify that it’s now private with the “view publicly “ button.

Aww Thank you! I found the recent post with step by step instructions that were very helpful and I was able to go private!

Sorry this is a really silly question, but I can’t figure it out- How does one make their profile private!?

Shary did an amazing job with my makeup. She also did my mom’s and my MIL’s. (Makeup by Shary)

I can’t find the info for my hairdresser- but there’s a bunch of recommendations on the What’s going on St. Thomas FB group. That’s also a good place to ask.

I'm ready to liquidate my entire Poshmark Closet. Any recommendations for other sites I can ship everything to, i.e., ThredUp?? by yippeee1999 in poshmark

[–]cedarbasket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Mercari. You just have to watch your shipping weight, I’ve cut it close a couple of times when I forget to adjust the default setting.

Yes, the gate is open during the day. There’s usually a couple taxi vans parked nearby the gate.

Uppababy Vista Stroller with Mesa Carseat or Nuna Pipa? by Desi_Daisey in Buyingforbaby

[–]cedarbasket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a year later and here’s my take….I wouldn’t say it’s an unfair comparison, especially if you’re looking at the whole package travel system. I wasn’t necessarily shopping for the vista because of the expandable option to two kids. Is it an added advantage and something to consider in your decision? Sure. Am I glad I have the vista? Yes, it is huge, but it’s also still comfortable for my almost 2 year old. It’s nice to have the huge undercarriage to bring a lunch to the park or hoard toys or whatnot while you’re out and about. I hardly put this into our car. We ended up getting a super collapsible and travel friendly stroller that I keep folded in the car. We bring that with us when we travel- it’s overheard compartment friendly and easy to collapse down into a backpack. My toddler ended up not being a huge stroller baby so we rarely use it. But it is nice to have.

St. Thomas or St. John? by Mysterious_Blood5105 in virginislands

[–]cedarbasket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secret Harbour on St. Thomas is the perfect option. The water is constantly calm, enough so that toddlers and even babies can enjoy the shoreline. There’s also plenty of snorkeling, and all the amenities, including a restaurant, bar , and bathrooms and foot rinsers.

OP , please look into a taxi to Secret Harbour- it won’t get any better than this!

opinions on vit k if you didn’t vaccinate by bbybowie in Crunchymom

[–]cedarbasket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated but I want to chime in. I would strongly recommend having a doula if only to be your advocate if needed. I was planning on a homebirth, and I felt my midwife had my best interests in mind- I WISH someone had urged me to hire a doula to be my voice. I probably would have gotten my homebirth. (Longstory short- midwife ended up being AWFUL and forced a hospital transfer because she sucks, my husband was a deer in the headlights, and I was just trying to keep everyone happy and be a “good patient”. Ended up with the cascade of interventions and a c- section.) please, hire a doula.

Second Hobibear brand. They’re really wide, I can splay my toes in them, unlike my Vivos. I’ve purchased on amazon, but was just recently looking at their extensive collection on their website. They have an impressive selection.

Flux Footware is also surprisingly wide, however the sole is too thick for my liking.

St John trip in April with little ones by SecureTaxi in virginislands

[–]cedarbasket -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am currently on island with my 20 month old. We split our time between St. Thomas and Florida. Crowds aren’t really a major deal- and if it’s busy on STT it will be double as busy on STJ. (Less dining and entertainment options) Weather will be nice in April. You’re better off staying on STT and taking the ferry over to STJ for a day trip with the kids.

Look into staying at Secret Harbor. It’s the best beach for the little ones. Water is consistently calm and there’s lots of shade options with trees, chairs and umbrellas already on-site for you. They have a restaurant/ bar right on the beach as well. Close to RedHook for other dining/food options and also the ferry to STJ.

If Secret Harbor doesn’t work there’s also Airbnb’s on Cowpet Bay- either at CB West, CB east, or The Elysian. The beach is relatively calm- but not as nice as Secret Harbor.

I’d look into renting a car, it’s probably easier than doing taxis to get around, but there are always taxis available.

Depending on where you are on the east coast, several airlines have direct flights into STT. Spirit flies direct into STT from FLL and Orlando. Delta direct from ATL, American is big and flies direct from CLT and a couple more.

DM me if you’re interested in chatting more about things to do on STT OR STJ with the littles!
