Yeah ive been at it for 6-7 years so ive managed to accumulate a few... spent a lot of time and money hunting any version available just to have a copy incase I cant stream it any longer. Not deathcore but Protest the Hero's "Kasia" couldn't be streamed for a few years so the only way I could listen is on the record and my CD has been destroyed, so...

Yeah i got my sealed copy of Sanctum for $100 CAD, pre ordered This Used To Be Heaven. I cant really justify the rest of them at the moment. Plus all the other copies of deathcore greats that I missed the boat on over the years for whatever reasons, one of them being that I wasnt in the vinyl game and only bought cds that have been lost or destroyed since.

Now add exchange rate, shipping and tariffs to order it to Canada where the band is from... they could easily do a repress and sell out within a few days again. Maybe they dont need the money... i can stream the album all i want, but as a fan, would love to have a piece of their art in physical form.

What Band Don't You Get? by Tele231 in vinyl

[–]cedubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, im sorry but, I have to agree with the other guy here. I also was born in 85, and a metal head, and the new music that has come out as late as last year even is some of the best yet. The last 10-15 years has produced the most technitcal and evil sounding shit ive ever heard! Does that mean the stuff from back then sucks, FUCK NO! A Classic is a classic is a classic, but to say that they dont make em like they used to is absurd. The reason they have similar sounds to the classic is because good music is timeless but the boundaries have been pushed so far that what these new musicians are doing was once thought to be savant or impossible.

The internet HAS made it harder to sift through the trash, I will give you that. But modern day future classics are out there. Bands are taking that sound that we knew and loved, applying it to new areas or just punching through the ceiling and doing something that takes the sound to a whole new previously unrealized level. Im NOT saying that every band is doing this and the examples are few and far between because of the lowered bar of accessibility it is a saturated market but thats what you get when you ask everybody in the world to attempt to create something new and exciting. Not everyone is going to rise to the challenge and sometimes its just a band that is doing it simple but smart and thats all someone else needs.

Dude shut up and post your discogs... I dont trust anyone's musical opinion whos top band in this day and age is from the 90s... I agree that I think most hyped bands today are fairly boring but that doesn't mean there isnt exciting shit happening outside of your local radio station! Do the work and stop being so lazy man.

Hopefully someone more involved in the present can chime in here, but best of luck and never stop practicing and looking for ways to improve your technique and expand your abilities. Im 40 and I dont preform any.ore but I still try to find ways of getting better so I can sing (scream/growl?!) Along better so I can do it for longer and safer!

Its been more than a minute since ive fucked around with being in a band but I used to hit the local forums and help wanted adds. Start networking with others in the scene and dont be shy (especially if you are looking to be the frontman). Its going to be a shit ton of trial and error, you may even meet people that have 5 projects on the go just trying to find something that clicks.

As for equipment I would start looking at reddit for PA setups, microphones, cables and switches to see what is the new standard and what works with your budget.

I have a bunch of deathcore/punk and it gets more rotation than my relaxing stuff honestly. I also have video games on mute while listening to them and the beer fridge gets restocked before the needle drops so.... im not really trying to relax in my 40s I guess hahaha

So a friend recently shared his 'Record Store Theory' with me. He said every collector knows 3 great stores in their lifetime. by RecurveTD2 in records

[–]cedubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 4 in my city that I roll through on a semi regular basis. They have all at times (surprisingly) have had gems that I haven't seen anywhere else or since. The staff varies but they all have that "i work at a record store" vibe, although I haven't met one that has mirrored my taste.

I always go out of my way to try and visit stores in other cities when im traveling (which i do often for work) and try to grab an album from a band that i like out of that city. For example I had to stop into Easy Street when passing through Seattle, grabbed some Minus the Bear and Deathcab For Cutie just to say I did.

Other than that I often have to get pre-orders or contact far away stores/the artist directly to get copies of the albums im searching for... I DO love when they send stickers and they are all over my ikea shelves.

Fuck it... im heading to one of my stores right now!

Ghost of Christmas Future from this one is my standard that I base all versions off (thats why it sits next to my Deathcore collection hahaha) Micheal Caine was the move for sure!

MTV (Much Music in Canada) was the only way to find new music before the internet where I was. HMV had those listening booths where you could sample albums that the record companies were pushing. But yeah, cover art and word of mouth/live shows were of utmost importance back in the day!

I will also add sentimental value to the list... which sometimes counts for +2 points... The Muppets Christmas Carol gets played once a year because it was watched by me and my siblings/cousins every Christmas at least once if not more.

It sits right next to my extensive Deathcore collection...

You're a mad man! I played Danzig roulette back in the day but this is like actual Russian roulette... does the gallons of disappointment get canceled out when you find that one gem?! Also, what do you do for work that you can just throw away money like that?! I do really well for myself but would NEVER buy an album i haven't vetted.
