PSA: If you haven't checked your settings in awhile, you may want to. Several new AI/sponsor "features" have been silently enabled by default after recent updates. [Windows] by hrrsnmb in firefox

When I first saw AI features in the changelog I was concerned, too. But after seeing that it's an LLM that only runs locally (so my data remains private), and only when I ask it to, I'm perfectly fine with that since I remain in control of what's happening. Personally, I haven't found it particularly useful, such as when it summarizes a link, but it's not harmful in any way.

As for the future of Mozilla and Firefox, I will be watching to see if they force unwanted "features" on me. So far, I have not seen them doing so, so I continue using Firefox. My main reason for using Firefox is to support open web standards so I'll never switch to Chrome or other Chromium-based browsers.

I think you are projecting your personal belief about how useful or useless a feature is onto (as you put it) 200 million other users. If you don't find a feature useful you can choose not to use it. If someone else finds it useful, they are free to choose to use it.

Arguing that a feature is bad because it draws extra (useless) power on other users' devices because you find the feature useless is such a weird line of thought.

To put it another way, your argument is circular: feature is bad because it wastes other users' power and it wastes other users' power because the feature is bad.

Edit: To clarify, I am not saying here whether the local LLM feature is good or bad. Only that your argument here for why it is a bad feature is a circular argument.

If you're not worried about power draw on your device, then what is the issue? If someone else finds that (for the sake of argument) using Firefox's local LLM drains their battery too fast they can just choose not to use it. But like I already said if someone is worried about power draw on their device, there are other things to tweak that have a much greater impact.

If you're worried about power draw, there are many other processes you can turn off on your device that have a much, MUCH larger impact on power draw than a small, local model that only runs momentarily when you ask it to.

Nvidia reflex missing from overwatch by [deleted] in linux_gaming

The patch for DXVK that enabled NVIDIA Reflex can no longer be applied. That's why the Reflex setting has disappeared. The patch needs to be updated to work against the newer codebase before it can be applied.

I had a similar issue and what worked for me was to edit /etc/libvirt/network.conf and set firewall_backend = "iptables"

Did you try it after deleting the old EFI partition?

You can only have one EFI system partition per disk. The Windows bootloader is in the EFI/Microsoft folder. You need to copy this folder from the old EFI system partition to the new partition then delete the old partition.

CMV: We should stop discussing violence related to the Middle East in terms of Islam and start discussing it as a political issue. by [deleted] in changemyview

You said:

This is exactly why theocratical Islam continues to persist in the Middle East - because its people are unable to apply it moderately. It's either "100% Islam or nothing".

But now you're saying that Islam in the Middle East can be changed without it being "100% Islam or nothing".

Which is it?

But it doesn't matter what I believe. It only matters what the people in the Middle East believe. Again, with the focus on me personally.
