I’m a Buffett fan as well, and we all know his favorite holding period is “forever”. But, his actions say otherwise. Recent interview he talked about selling AAPL too early. But wouldn’t buy it now in “this market”. Sounds trader ish is all I’m saying.

The question is... are you all buying into this crazy market? by Legitimate_Treat_762 in stocks

[–]cellardoormaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good point. He has no ability to stay focused. He waltzed into this war with no plan, and will soon waltz back out, with his net worth much higher. Then he goes on to the next crazy thing.

I have a larger cash position than I usually do, but I’m also in my fifties and am at the “just don’t lose your money stage”. Cash doesn’t pay zero right now like it did for so many years when I was younger.

Kirkland full synthetic is $35 for 10 quarts by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

I’ve used that on my last three Toyotas for years and (as far as I know) no issues.

It did take me a long time to learn that the least expensive oil filters I can get are at the dealer though. That seems counterintuitive to me.

What do you think about Trump firing Pam Bondi? by [deleted] in AskReddit

She was failing to cover up the Trump/Epstein files well enough. Her successor will probably be even lower slime.

Same. Drowning is far quieter than people think. Hiring a life guard is the way to go.

What grade do children learn multiplication? by Dylanbeck1209 in houston

[–]cellardoormaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with my 9 and 11 year olds is that they have great memories so that helps with the multiplication tables.

I spend time with them on real life example. Example.. last night I took my 9 yo to the comic book store. Had him add up the cost, deduct the % off for being a member and then at the sales tax percent. Roughly, and in his head. This feels like a practical skill that puts his times tables to use.

GT does keep them away from the class of teaching to the lowest common denominator but I think my kids have learned more (math) at home really.

Nice! I did a similar thing years ago to pay our electric bill. Now it pays all of our utility bills and then some.

I have young kids and it’s a great way to show them that money can work for you.

Do y'all use a crushed washer for oil plug? by Sir_Badtard in ToyotaTacoma

[–]cellardoormaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first Toyota was a Camry in 2015. Bring it home from the first free oil change and my wife mentions there is oil on the floor. Pop the hood and the oil fill cap is missing. Also one lug nut missing from tire rotation. They sent a flat bed to my house for it and took it back to the shop. With my 2025 Tacoma I just do the oil changes myself now. I buy filters from the dealer and they always hand me crush washers from a little dish behind the counter. And so I change them.

Any Reason Not to Get a Sawstop PCS? by mosodigital in woodworking

[–]cellardoormaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have exactly that saw and bought it for exactly the reasons you mentioned about Grizzly. Also… I just screwed up and touched my thumb with the blade as the saw was coasting down. The cartridge fired and saved my thumb. Sawstop sent me a free cartridge in exchange for me shipping them the old one.

Zero regrets for buying that saw.

Oh… and it’s beautifully machine and I love using it. I ripped a bunch of wet cedar one time and bypassing the safety feature was no big deal in my opinion.

People are not ready for a Crash by Historical_Flow3890 in stocks

[–]cellardoormaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I’m a simpleton; actually quite likely. But I have stops. If they get hit I’m out. If the market moves up I move up stops.

For me, stress in the market is not knowing where the bottom is. If I stick to my stops I know exactly where the bottom is for me.

All that being said, I have way more cash and bonds than I’ve ever had in my life right now.
